Dodgy for-sale pictures... do they bother you?

For me the worst ones are where the person is selling something they allegedly own and use but just stick up the first picture they got off Google.

Guilty as charged, I'm afraid! I put a kayak spraydeck on flea bay a few weeks ago and really tried to take some decent pics of it, but just couldn't get it to look like anything other than a black blob on a white background. I gave up and used one from the manufacturers web site.

It didn't sell....

I am also probably guilty of using poor quality pics and apologising for them, I really am just very bad at photography. It doesn't mean I am dishonest though.

"NEVER NEVER NEVER switch on an amp without speakers or a dummy load connected." :o
A drummer bloke who built amps in Hanwell told me that.
Thing is, my HA5000 is two separate power amps. If I only use one cab, one power amp is running with no load on it. This is the case for the majority of its life.

Perhaps the non running amp is automatically switched out of circuit, but then again, with todays technology anything could be happening.

I always err on the side of caution with amps having had one blow mid gig at a major outdoor festival because a silly sound engineer tripped over my speaker lead and disconnected it. Resulted in costly serious damage to the output stage of the amp.

I was never too bothered with pictures of bass leanded against the wall, but the concrete driveway or wet grass is not too nice setting for bass.

But if I was asked about the pic with the most disturbing 'beautyful bass vs. malicious setting' factor, this pic takes the cake:

Amen. Pile of cr**p to justify the poor quality, that's what it is. But once I've found an auction like that and was sceptic, but later the pics were uploaded and my jaw dropped. I don't remember what bass it was, but I clearly remember the feeling itself :D
The bass wasn't just leaned up against a wall - it was sittingon top of it. It was a low brick wall on what looked like a balcony, and it was balancing on its back with the wall running underneath it perpendicular to the direction of the neck.

As for that bass in snow... savage :(

As I understand it - no harm will occur to a valve amp as long as the Standby is OFF.

*EDIT* - for clarity, I mean switched to no output.
I've been told by three diff amp techs that it's safe with a valve amp so long as there's no signal received; ie. there's no input lead plugged in. Though it's not something I can ever thing of a worthy reason for doing. Any ad pics would look far better if you want to show an amp fired up by sitting it on a cab, clearly marked as not part of the package.

I don't understand why. :)
All you need to do is stick the pics on Photobucket and link to them... or am I missing something?
You must be missing something - I've never used photobucket so would have to start from scratch but then again i hate technology. I need to work with it but i don't need to socialise with it

Us older guys take a little time to work some of these new fandangled software type packages out you know. :D
I remember when computers actually started when they were as big as a spare room for a basic timer programmer.

All the best

Didnt bother to bid on this mainly cos of the photo. I did ask for some more pics, as per the description. But got no reply.

No signal maybe, but an unloaded amp can go into oscillation and then generate its own signal, plus preamp generated noise is signal.

[sub]I wouldn't be unduly put off by that pic of the bass in the snow if I was in the market for that type of bass. The length of time to put it there to take the pic would be minimal, the actual area of the bass in contact with the snow is minimal. The air would be very cold and thus fairly dry. All in all I'd say the electronics in that bass probably saw less moisture than an average sweaty club gig. I wouldn't go out of my way to photograph one of my own in that way though ;) [/sub]

Funny you should mention timers. I had to get a friend to help me control my alarm clock from my vintage home computer; here we are checking the timer settings using a 'proper' interface device - none of this WIMP nonsense.

The snow wouldn't worry me either.

The white pin-striping would though, but that would show up with any photo.
