So, does it make the bass sound different?

In my mind it did, as I thought it added depth to the sound. Then, I bought a `77 Precision, without string-thru, and don`t really notice any difference at all.

I think what it was that I was comparing string-thru MIA Precisions against non string-thru MIM Precisions.

Plus, all the great bass sounds I like - JJ Burnell, Bruce Foxton, Paul Simenon, John Deacon, Glen Matlock - all played Precisions without string-thru.

I had a '96 Jazz Deluxe V with string-thru and it was great. Sold it a few years ago (to fund a new amp), bought a Mex 4 string (non string-thru) and it sounds as good as the Deluxe. Go figure...
