end to live music restrictions in pubs?

It won't happen. It will result in lots of calls to the Environmental Health about noise levels and there'll be another proposal.

I think it's the expense and the complexity of the licensing that's the problem, not the actual licensing. Although the current system was supposed to make it less complex.

Never seen what the purpose of the legislation was. Let's be honest, the factors that determine where live music is played will be the size of the room the size of the potential audience and the cost of the band. Most of the venues I play coudln't take more than a 4 piece without there being no room for an audience.

is that your way of saying you have an audience of 1? :)

I think there is a case for regulation and for it to be simplified....we hardly need a free-for-all though.
And I agree, it is unlikely, IMO, ...you only have to see what hoops you have to dance through for outdoor licenses.. due to H&S etc...so unless they bin that, I can't see them deregulating to any degree.

I've a cheek to talk about audience sizes, last gig I did in Perth we had an audience of 1 for the first 5 or so songs! Never went back to that venue & never even took payment from the bar (I felt bad as I think they was relying on us bringing an audience, which we don't have in Perth yet).

The more cynical mind would perhaps think that the biggest reason for bringing this legislation out in the first place were based on £'s...

We're a four piece and have outnumbered our paying guests more than once :)
