I have been lusting after a Dingwall for some time now after a few chats with Sheldon and Mark at Bass Direct it seemed like it was gonna be the bass for me and i'm pleased to say i have actually gone at got one!

I managed to skive the afternoon off of work the other day and drove up to Warwick with the idea of just trying them out....
Well as soon as i sat down with the ABZ i had been drooling over (even before it had been shipped!) i knew i wasnt leaving there alone!!!

My god, what a bass!
Sheldon trully is a genius, i would totally reccomend anyone having a go on one even if you are not in the market for a new bass, the Novax Fanned fret system is just so easy to play, i didnt really even have to think about adjusting my playing, i just dropped right in there and was off...easy as that!
Believe me, i'm no awesome bassist either but it was just rediculous how much it just wasnt an issue.

As for the bass itself, well it just sounds amazing, such a range of tones!
I am absolutely thrilled to bits with it and cant wait to gig the hell out of it!

Cant end without giving Mark some props either, he's a proper nice bloke who makes you feel really welcome in his little alladins cave of a shop, really cant reccomend Bass Direct highly enough, Mark really knows his stuff.

...Rant over!

Welcome aboard the Dingwall galaxy. It's a cool place to be. I went from 0 to 3 Dingwalls in the space of 6 months, and from 5 MusicMan to 0 in even less because of Dingwall HAHA!

[quote name='Grand Wazoo' post='1132539' date='Feb 18 2011, 06:16 PM']The 3rd one I am picking up tomorrow morning is this:

Super J 5 strings with a P/J pickup configuration

I trust they thought better of adding the matching coloured headstock insert on the pink ones as it would probably look a bit rude!

That's seriously sexy looking. Although I'd love a '51 P-bass inspired one like the one in the drawings Wazoo posted a couple of days ago. Yum.

I think one day i'll buy one, if only to mess with the minds of drunks in the bar :)

Heh, imagine a cross between fan-fretted Brian Eastwood type of bass:

"whoa, like far out man!" :)

Very nice !

Must admit I've wanted to own a Dingwall for a while, but I've pretty much realised that an E-C tuning is the way ahead for me.

For those in the know (such as Sheldon :) or ofcourse any other owners of these lovely instruments), would I be correct in saying that the scale length etc. has been pretty much designed for the low-B or could one replace the strings with a high C tuning ? Or is this just a really dumb question ? :)

oops, just realized you said E-C not E-G :-)

How about a 4 string ABZ?

Nah, leave it as a one off! :)

No seriously though, its a proper beauty and i think you would shift a fair few in that finish.

I'm so absolutely stoked with the bass, every time i pick it up it just seems to get better and better!

I took it round to Beat the red ligh HQ last night and it was drooled all over by the band, cant wait to gig it!

E-C on a Super J (32" to 35" scale) is no problem. On our long scale 5's sourcing strings would be a problem.

Gday Alan, So is the fan thing ok then? comfy to play? The long scale bit puts me off a tad, don't know if I could play it! There's now an ACG fanned one coming, maybe he'd do a shorter one for someone with stunted arms like me?!

I'll tell you the truth Chris, I picked up a Combustion and played a few riffs on it and never ven noticed the frets were wonky. I've never played anything with fanned frets before and it was like I've been playing them all my life. Bit tricky when you get past the 12th fret but no big deal. The build quality is stunning on the Afterburner and ABZ and they're very light.

Yes, I played an Afterburner at the bass gallery and the fanned fret thing was not a problem. I will be getting myself an ABZ at some point because it has the sounds I want. Just need to stump up the dosh!

Hi,

not wishing to hijack this thread but could I ask you where you get that lovely Baltic Amber scratchplate material from? I'm tempted to have one made for my white Jazz. Your white Super Jazzes with the Baltic plates are almost pornographic!
