Hi guys - wow you lot are on fire!!! ;-)

Actually - I am not convinced it is Alder, it could be ash, it is really hard to tell. I am taking it to my tech next week to confirm. ( You can check easier by taking the neck off but I am reluctant to do this)

Fair point, but I'll bet 99 out of 100 Basschatters couldn't tell the difference in a blind test....

It's definitely more likely to be ash, but it's not a nicely figured piece of ash if it is. However, alder has relatively little figure and Fender rarely used it on sunbursts for that reason.
