I would conciser everything other than a phone call / face to face chat as a instrument to get to or help with the phone call / face to face chat. I would also consider everything other than "[i]A plaque o' both your houses![/i]" as a yes (but not yet, just needs some more persuading / phone calls / face to face).

Well I tried out amplitude tonight and found the latency (23ms) was definitely noticeable... I think I am going to give it a miss.... worth a go though.

I would go with him or me approach also... otherwise it sounds like baby and the bathwater....

Well done, I hope you enjoy it out there. Regarding the temp change, it will go through extremes of temperature and humidity in the container through the weeks getting to you. Leaving it in the case for a day/week/whatever wont make any difference. I would just make sure it is very well packaged, like wouldn't mind if it was dropped from 10m high kind of packed well. None of the crane operators / captains / lorry drivers will give a sh*t what is in the container.

Like others have said, it is what I strive for but haven't yet been able to achieve. Here is my justification!!! - 5 String the one which is played the most for rock, pop etc. Going to replace with a 6 string fretted soon.. - 6 String fretless probably used the least but when I do helps my playing no end - acoustic bass guitar good for folk stuff and I want to get back in to a folk band - Double Bass used for Jazz mostly and the odd blues gig - LB30 with LB112 for the tone and quiet gigs - LittleGiant and Midget-T for the volume (probably going to buy a better PA and sell these on) Got a pre-amp and IEM for the venues with good PA's, this is actually my ideal scenario, forget amps & cabs.

I would get a Little Giant 1000. Brand new for £200 and less for second hand. Perfect backup.

I also think that it is impossible to rule out the differences in guitars being used in these amps + the way they are played. Creating music starts with your fingers and you can make a massive difference in the sound simply by playing differently. Throw in strings, action, wood, freted/fretless, active/passive, pickups, leads, effects... the water is very muddy.

Sharing kit is a nightmare, it should always only have one owner IMHO, especially if the band is quite transient. I would suggest the MD/leader/organiser/lastonestanding/whatever has the PA and takes a slightly larger share of the earnings because of it.

All this talk about latency, what is the usual latency through a standard digital pre-amp?

Thanks guys. The idea around software based effects is more around me wanting to experiment and learn about sound manipulation rather than just a straight replacement. I intend to gig with that kind of setup, just with a A/B in front of the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 so I can quickly go clean if I need to. FWIIW: the Pro 40 + Reaper gives around 23ms latency.

I am a massive geek when it comes to technology, especially when it is also my day job.... and my geekyness is also all prevailing when it comes to music... So my Zoom B9.1ut has just died. I wasn't anything to do with the gear, one of the potentiometers on the pre-amp got knocked. This caused it to change all the time whilst playing, which meant any of the patch levels always was wrong, which meant it was unusable with the pre-amp on, which meant it was kind of useless! Anyway... I am quite happy to get another one, but I have been thinking about midi triggered software based effects. I have a rack mounted Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, a Peavey IPR 1600, a laptop and some money to spend! From the research I have done, the best set up would be a midi pedal and some kick ass effects software, geared around live performance use. Regarding pedals, is the [url="http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/roland-fc-300-midi-foot-control-station--38265"]Roland FC 300[/url] more then 3 times the quality of the [url="http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/FCB1010.aspx"]Behrigher FCC1010[/url] (ie worth 3 times the price) ? And probably the most crucial buy is the software given that is where the "tone" will come from. Has anyone used [url="http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitube/"]AmpliTube[/url] or [url="https://www.ableton.com/en/live/new-in-9/"]Alberton Live[/url]? Any others I should consider?

I was at a club not so long ago having some kind of early 20's flashback muttering to myself how young everyone else looked... anyway... The DJ in his wisdom kept playing with a low pass filter. It was quite revealing to me that when he turned the filter up, within 5 or so seconds everyone stopped dancing. He kept doing it over and over again with the same result. This just re-enforced that a rhythm is probably the most primeval part of music people enjoy subconsciously. Yes not every track has rhythm and yes not every track needs melody but rhythm is probably the fundamental part of music and that it is never going to go away. There is a question over how electronics is going to change the types of instruments people use to play rhythm. I watched a really good set from a solo performer at a open mic night. She queued loads of samples, rhythms and beats from a square keypad thing. She then sang + played the guitar over it, musically it was really creative, worked well and I enjoyed it very much. No bass guitar or drums in sight. Was there anything wrong with that? I don't think so.

I echo what others have said. If you try and learn basic scales & the structure of songs ( I, V, IV etc) then it doesn't matter what key it's in, you still know it. Learning theory pays you back again and again...

Have to admit, I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing...

My only comment would be to use your pinkey, lot of unnecessary left hand movement on the second track...
