3.
Never regret not buying them, just selling them.
For sure... that '79 natural finish fretless Fender Precision in Fender hard case I bought new back in '79 (from Andertons) is one I really wish I'd hung on to ficelles
 4. I am extremely lucky to have use of a '63 Precision that belongs to a friend who no longer plays. Perfect sound for playing in a full line-up. ficelles
 5. Interesting really... I mean there was this thing called a double bass that was a bass with no frets. Then back in the 1930s a guy called Paul Tutmarc invented the bass guitar, which was a smaller bass turned sideways and with frets on. Then sometime later someone decided to take the frets off and call it a fretless bass guitar. Then someone else had the idea of turning it vertical and making it longer and calling it an electric upright bass. At around this point in time, modern bass players started to rediscover this thing called a double bass... ficelles
 6.
Musical self indulgence is when things are being done for the sake of doing them. When the artist has nothing to say, and nothing to take anyone anywhere emotionally but still does it.
Round these parts, people refer to music like that as "crap". Personally I just think it's an art form that refuses to compromise through externalisation. ficelles
 7.
Music SHOULD be about being true to yourself & playing what you want to play, regardless of whether anyone else wants to hear it or not. If pleasing an audience comes before that then you shouldn't be a musician IMO - become a clown or a f***ing juggler or one of those c**ts that pretends to be a statue or some other such "entertaining" bollocks.
Absolutely. I mean let's not fall in to the trap of playing what people want to hear, otherwise they might actually enjoy your performance... ficelles Ps a singer & I played Fever at an open mic tonight - for a double bass player that is both pleasing the crowd and being self-indulgent

 10.
thats a good point..im thinking they dont need a truss rod though..?
Doesn't Wishbass favour singlecuts or long top bouts and avoid truss rods? I actually had one for a while. I have smaller and lighter furniture. That Warwick Thumb singlecut just looks silly. ficelles

 13.
My AC30 lived in the boot of our car for several years because it was too heavy to continually drag between the parking area and the house. Just make sure that when things get chucked in on top that nothing sharp can poke through a speaker cone.
My combo generally lives in a flight case in the car... out of sight under the hatchback cover and I don't think it would be affected by weather any more than if it was in the shed. I am pretty sure that my MU instrument insurance covers stuff left in cars. ficelles
 14.
I don't know what's worse... Someone charging £26 for a box or someone being stupid enough to buy it!
Someone once sent me a guitar by Standard Parcels just in bubble wrap in a gig bag. Not only wasn't it protected properly, but because it wasn't in a double-walled cardboard box the insurance was invalid. Luckily there was only minor damage. What would you ship a Hiwatt head in, wrapping paper? If you don't ship in a proper box you aren't insured, and if you sell to someone on fleabay or similar and damage occurs in transit it's you that's liable. Personally I'd prefer to pay for a proper shipping carton. Thanks for the pointer to the tight-fisted one Incidentally I used to be able to get boxes for free from my local store but since the whole mail order thing took off they aren't chucking them away... ficelles
 15. A year into NS WAV ownership and I sound completely different on the same instrument through the same amplifier than I did back in June '10. I guess it's all in familiarity with an instrument and sticking with it - in that year I've hardly gigged fbg and done maybe 3 gigs on acoustic upright. My WAV tone now gets compliments where last year I was making excuses for it (it doesn't sound like the real thing but it's more portable etc). Now thinking of adding a CR4M but I will keep the old WAV... ficelles
 16.
Technically it's 3dB which isn't much,
Not everyone gets the logarithmic scale thing: +3dB is double the power which is actually quite a lot - your second identical Marshall stack at full volume only adds 3dB to your first Marshall stack at full volume, but I think you'd notice the difference. +6dB is double sound pressure level. I think that means we have 4 identical Marshall stacks all working flat out now. * +10dB is double perceived loudness. Doesn't bear thinking about on the Cranked Identical Marshall Stack (CIMS) scale * You can't always get +6dB just by adding speakers - you have to add power to drive them as well. Of course when you add a speaker in parallel you reduce the overall load and therefore get more power out the amp (P = VI). But if you add in series you will reduce the power and get less. ficelles

 18. I'm intrigued by this whole Warwick thing... I have owned a couple of Warwicks and a couple of Rockbasses, all fretless, and personally I think the Rockbasses are great apart from the rather low-end electronics. Are Warwick maybe thinking of Rockbass being their standard offering and pushing the German-made basses up into the handmade and accordingly ultra-pricey territory? Either way I've decided to hang on to my Warwick Corvette Fretless for now. Incidentally the now-famous Big Mart has a lovely very early Warwick Streamer in natural finish. Just don't say "Rickenbacker" to him. ficelles
 19.
I've learnt my lesson. I'm saying nothing - don't want some agressive [removed by moderator] coming in calling me Kiddo and puffing out his chest again.
I hope you realise I achieved nearly 34" chest measurement when I did that... one of my cardigan buttons nearly popped right off! ficelles the librarian
 20. Wombles & U2 play Glastonbury: Wombles: invented recycling, wear great costumes, play lovely pop tunes. U2: have a carbon footprint larger than Brazil, zero dress sense, make Bartok sound snappy and cool. Micheal Eavis: who is Uncle Bulgaria this year? Ooops did I say that out loud... ficelles
 21.
I've never been particularly fond of that sort of thing. Good at what he does perhaps, but it doesn't 'do it' for me.
I reckon he's just taking the mick out of every slappin' and poppin' bass branleur in da house by doing it 10 times better and 100m times faster... ficelles
 22. Thanks for the advice guys! Will check out Euphonic, in the meantime before I let any $$$s go I am going to try assembling a lightweight ported 1x12 myself with some bits I have lying around and help from a diy-enabled friend... ficelles
 23.
+1 to all those who said you'll get a MUCH better deal by looking out on ebay / classifieds here. Really nice European made, 20-50 year old ply basses often go for under £500. You just need someone from here to spot it for you.
+1 - I picked up my Hungarian student 3/4 on fleabay for well under £500, but then spent £175-ish on a new bridge/setup etc. Luckily I had a set of spirocores lying around. Although I did have to get a gig bag. Anyway the result is imho far better than if I'd bought one of those "bargain" new basses for the same price, and it looks so much cooler! ficelles
 24. Erykah Badu (Mama's Gun). Not sure. I'm really in a Gare du Nord kinda mood... ficelles
 25. The Barefaced Midget - I am really really GASsing for one of these to use as a compact match for my SWR Electric Blue head... so who can tell me they are overrated and not worth the £££s? I can't really afford one but they look great and the specs are very convincing esp with the attenuable tweeter (looks like a great single-cab solution for both BG and DB) so I really need to be put off... ficelles
