1.
Were you in the Bass Gallery last Saturday afternoon trying it out by any chance?
I was there with my friend, Nik - silverfoxnik on this forum! First time for me as I am from the States. Did we talk? I'm back now in Arizona. Had a wonderful stay.
 2.
Scottsdale..? I went to a bar called Jetz or Jets there a few years ago. Beautiful waitresses on roller skates tending to my every need. Is it still there. I go to Phoenix every couple of years but didn't venture to Scottsdale last time.
I remember Jets. No longer there. Bars in that area change like water. Your memory is vivid - mant good looking girls there. Let me know when you travel to Scottsdale again!
 3.
+1 Glad to see you got back safely Mike!
It was a long trip back home but safe. Thanks, Nik! Still fighting the jet lag...
 4. Beautiful! Too bad I just came back from London with a Mach 11. Good luck with the sale on this marvelous bass!
 5.
Haven't heard anything specific Russ but there is a holding page up on the internet now: http://www.walbass.co.uk/ I think some people here have actually had some dealings with Paul Herman for spare parts etc lately as well....
At least its a start!
 6.
Gonna put this on eBay next week !
Andre - see my PM!
 7.
Thought I saw my name being mentioned here ... Hi Kevin. Yes, I bought the bass and travelled a long way to pick it up because I REALLY wanted it, and for the money considered it to be a steal. Which it was. I fell head over heels for it - a thing of beauty. Having lived with it for a while, I still love it to bits. It is a piece of British craftsmanship at it's best - superb build quality instrument that has spolit me getting cheap basses forever. But... it weighs as much as a bus. The neck is almost as wide as a bus. The bridge is a little flakey - the perspex is starting to crack at the thinnest point where the end of the strings are held and it is going to be difficult to source an original to replace it. The sounds are always going to be very subjective - to my ears it seems very limited in the tones available. I will keep it and love it forever, occasionally producing it with a flourish to the astonishment of other musicians ('what the f*ck is that?') but will no longer use it as my #1 bass as it is too precious - at least until I can get something sorted with the bridge - and, frankly, harder to play - I feel much more comfortable with the slimmer Jazz style neck. There is a guy on the Shergold discussion forum who is in the middle of constructing a Shergold double neck from scratch - he is going to have a go a casting a new perspex but for his and, if it works, do one for me too.
What a great description! My thoughts exactly! I've tried one of these. Basically it's the lure of a boutique bass. I think the auction that ended with it selling in the $500ish (sorry guys I'm in the US) range is about right. For some reason, here in the US, dealers like to place ranges in the $1500+ bracket for these because they are discontinued from the UK and people buy into it. Sort of the same reaction women swoon over a man with an English or French accent
 8. Nice bass! I have one of these. Very fair price. If I wasn't in the US I'd buy it. The shipping would be more than the cost
 9. Last week I just bought a used Fodera Matthew Garrison 4-string, which are impossible to get in the USA. Over a 2 year wait and about $9,000 new!! Absolutely worth it. So good I can't compare it to any other bass.
 10. Man, that is really nice! Any idea what you want for it?
 11. Gareth - That's a beaut! I know a player in South America looking for one. I'll contact him and direct him to this link!
 12.
Hey Chris Wow - is that really the LAST set?? I was thinking of getting some for my Pro2e.. Great news about Paul getting to this stage by the way, but i think it needs to be said Chris that Wal owners and potential new Wal customers owe you a huge debt of thanks for helping bring this about.. So thanks a lot!! Cheers Nik
+2
 13. Oops! It's a 1978 not 1979. It was one of the first production line basses, if that makes much difference to anyone. Just got through playing it and its very nice!
 14. I am preparing to buy another Wal, a MK II so this one may have to go. Very early Pro fretted bass in the very sought after transluscent cherry and in good working condition. Volume pot a slight scratchy but nothing a good spray could not fix. Any interest? Keep in mind I an in the USA so shipping would be quite more than you are used to.
 15.
I'm curious to find out what the new price range is. I suppose since I have to ask, I couldn't afford it. Can't wait to see a pic of a new one coming off the line. dunc
I'm curious too dunc and worried that it might be the price of a Fodera.
 16.
Was speaking to Phil Mulford last night at a gig of his, he was at Paul' s place a week or so ago and there are a number of Wal bodies and necks in various states of finish hanging on the walls. Yay!
I hope so, Nik! I have had some woods for facings with Pete for about 3 years. Hope to hear from Paul that he is ready to continue work on material that has already been sent like mine
 17. Bummer. Not this year, Nik. Dollar is horrible and America is at a halt at the moment with the economy on the brink....Always great to hear from you! I am off to Las Vegas for the wife's birthday tomorrow, doing my part to pump back cash into the economy . Did you see a couple of days ago a Wal Mach 11 sell for $5200! Have an excellent time at the Bash! .....and keep in touch!
 18. I just noted that you posted this on the Wal Yahoo site. Very nice! I wish you the best of luck!
 19.
I think you have me beat by a long shot. What color is that one front and center... salmon? And with the leather guard... WOW! Not bad lineage either.
Yes, salmon. It is the former John Entwistle bass. Thanks!
 20.
Thanks. I think it is a bit of a "parts" bass in Wal terms and is possibly the only rear loaded ProIIe. It was completed in March 1981 right when they were switching to Customs. Even has a left over JG plate for the SN. The trans-white is a refinish though. It was fretless and had a serious ding next to one of the knobs when I got it so I had Greg Curbow fix that and refinish it. I had always wanted a trans-white since seeing a P-Bass with the finish when I was a kid. Definitely a bass I would never willingly sell!
Dunc - Please! I want it!
 21.
I don't think it's for anybody at that price! Way over the top in my view, even though it is one of the very rare, early Wals.. Would you agree Mike?
You bet, Nik! That seller has always been far overpriced! I bought the Entwistle Wal from him at the same price in 2003 -- so there ya go. He has no description on that bass -- for example, re-finished and a replaced truss rod and a electronics cleaning from Pete in 2005. There ya go -- for anyone that is interested in buying the bass. It does sound terrific. Can't help all the members that hate the color. It was originally a natural ash color.
 22.
Trevor's site is a great compilation. All sorts of good stuff on the unusual Wals. I think I've seen pics of at least a couple of your Wals. My ProIIe can be both tough as nails and a little fragile at times. The electronics tend to come a bit loose after use so I have to go in a tighten things up, mainly the input jack. I don't gig much so I'm not afraid to use it though. I'm also amazed at the tone and feel every time I pick mine up. It the same as the first time I picked it up. It's also nice to have a variety of basses and to be able to come back to it. dunc
Yeah, dunc - Trevor's site is the best! I have had the same situations with my Pro11. These are the best basses! Nik - Your comments are right on, my friend, as always!
 23.
Why is he calling it a Gibson? More. http://www.trevorandthea.eclipse.co.uk/wal...cifications.htm
Ha! No idea. Probably text for all guitars he posts and he forgot to change the name.
