I've had this bass for over 3/4 months now and I haven't really taken to it as much as I was hoping to and even though it sounded great on my bands E.P I still don't pick it up first, especially since reacquiring a 44-02, so it's time to move it on. This bass has been a fair bit of hassle too. Since getting it from the original owner I've had to have the bass professionally set up and the neck shimmed by Rob at Waghorn Guitars in Bristol in order to make this bass playable. When I received the bass, both the bridge and the nut wouldn't lower much at all and the neck had a considerable bow to it as well. All of which meant the action was at least a good 6-7mm high and wouldn't go any lower. The jack socket was also knackered but that has also been fixed. But now the bass is very much playable and all the electronics and hardware work perfectly fine. Although it should be noted that Rob found it hard to straighten the neck out fully as it was in such a bow for a long time that it's impossible to get it dead straight, so there is still a bow to the neck but it is nothing serious and a low playable action can easily be achieved. I've tried to show this in one of the pictures as best I can. Again I'd like to stress that Rob did a great job and that the bass is now very much playable and adjustable. Here it is in action in our video and as I said I used it to record the songs as well: Also the bass is over 10 years old as well, the serial number is: E-075336-00, and as such it has a few dings here and there and bit of buckle rash on the back of the body, all of which I've tried to highlight in the photos. Pics: Trades: Try me, but please no Thunderbirds or anything under £400. Price: SOLD. If anyone needs anymore info then please just ask, Thanks guys, Josh.
I aswell! Bloody love the guy. His sound is always impeccable and his sheer skill level really made me up my game I was a spotty bassist in school 10 years ago. I always wondered how he got an almost fretless tone. Any ideas what his rig was on LD50? Truckstop
Ryan swore by his Ampeg SVT 4-Pro for both studio and recording for years. I think he uses Avalons nowadays though.

Easily my main inspiration along with Dirk Lance.
Hi Josh, could you give me any advantages and disadvantages you've found from using an ibook over a traditional paper book?
So far I can't think of any disadvantages at all. It's really easy to navigate between the chapters and you can place a bookmark as well if you want to remember where you are. Another advantage is that you won't be able to lose it as it's saved to your iTunes and won't take any space on the floor and it won't get damaged. I honestly can't think of any disadvantages other than not having either an iPhone/iPod/iPad but Stuart does offer the physical copy via his website www.basslinepublishing.com
I'm not usually one for using books to improve (I've just never got round to it actually) but I may start. Having the notation as well as the tab sounds like a really handy feature, I hate tabs but I'm not at the level of being able to read sheet music, that sounds like it could help this.
I've never been one for books either but this one I think is one everyone should consider having on either format, purely because the theory being taught is crucial to any players vocabulary at any level. Many people are familiar with Stuarts successful Ultimate Slap Bass book alongside his transcription books for artists such as: Level 42, Jamiroquai, Stuart Hamm, The Who, Kiss, to name a few. Those who have bought his books know how clear and easy they are to follow and that they are very accessible at any level. The tabs are written to coincide with the notation, so you can read them simultaneously and begin to familiarise yourself with notation. I believe Stuart is actually working on a sight reading & notation book which should be out soon.

This is mainly for iPhone and iPad users but I still think everybody should have a little nosey. So I've just downloaded Stuart Clayton's The Bass Players Guide to Scales & Modes on iBooks and it is brilliant! As an iBook format it works amazingly well, with a nice intro video as well as audio examples of both the exercise and a backing track to practice to. My iPad is only a measly first generation but it still looks nice and crisp so on a 2 or 3 I'm certain it will look fantastic. Aside from the audio and visuals the actual content is great. Every section has a clear explanation of what is in the exercises and how best to approach them. Each exercise is presented with both notation and tab, both are easy to read and to follow along with the accompanying audio, and it covers the more simpler scales and modes as well as the more advanced ones which for me has been a great help. I'm not usually one to do this but I honestly think anyone with an iPhone/iPad/iPod and fancies having a nice and very accessible theory book to either learn something new or refresh what you already know then I can't recommend this enough Thanks guys, Josh.
Any interest in this?
Early Skyline JOs had Fralins, they switched to Lakland pickups in 2007. The first two digits of the serial number should give you the build date. I think Aeros were only fitted on early models of the Darryl Jones (not the JO).
Thanks for that mate It's 2008 model going from the serial so it's definietly Lakland pick ups.

My now fixed up Streamer LX 5:
-
Hey guys, So this is the Precision that changed my opinion on them and it really is a great bass but unfortunately my jazzes and my Streamer are getting the most usage and I feel bad just seeing it sat there on a stand. I got this from Rasta a few months ago, who by the way is an absolute gent, and as such was kind enough to reinstall the original pick ups to complete the bass, he also managed to find a period correct bridge and an aftermarket tortoise shell pickguard which I think looks nice. So as such the bass is 80% original, the control knobs, strap buttons and bridge are non-original but still look good, but the body: neck, machine heads, pick ups and electronics are all original and it also has the original faded white pickguard too. But as expected for a used bass close to 30 years old it's got a bit of mojo which personally I think looks cool and doesn't affect the playability of this bass at all, if anything it adds to it. The neck is nice and worn but still nice and clean and the finish still has a nice flame to it still. I've tried to show as much of the dings and scratches as possible in the pics and though some might be scary I still think they add to the look of the bass. Pics: Serial number: JV40478 Hopefully that makes a few things clearer. This is by no means a mint condition bass but it has been used and it still works absolutely fine, it could benefit from a proper set up but I've had no problems with it all. It's got a nice action which is low but every note rings out nice and clearly and it's a good weight too. The tone of this bass is fantastic, having never been one for Precisions originally the sound of this one legitimately blew me away. It's warm and growly which is perfect for funk/soul/motown and just bringing up the tone it is great for punk and rock. SOLD Any other info please just ask Thanks, Josh. P.S. Hey Guys, Sorry for the late reply but I'll answer both your pms now, for what this bass is worth which is nothing I really don't want to have to send it I'm afraid, I haven't got any spare gig bags or cases or a spare box to send the bass in. Sorry guys, as I said originally I would prefer a collection. Josh.

The bass is still up for grabs to anyone who wants it

Hey guys, This hasn't been getting much use at all lately so I'd rather someone else was making use out of this great bass. This is my first Stingray and it's been great, I got in time for my studies of Louis Johnson and Bernard Edwards at Uni and did a great job when it came to playing their lines. It's a 2005 model and the serial number is: E46988. The bass has been played and gigged a lot by the original owner and has picked up some dings along the way and has some buckle rash on the back, all of which do not affect the playability of the bass at all. The electronics work perfectly and the neck feels nice and worn in. Pics: I tried my best to show the buckle rash and dings but if anyone would like some more pics I can happily sort some out Price: SOLD Trade Bait: Marcus Miller Jazz USA Jazz's Fender Deluxe P's or J's Spector Rebop/Euro 4 or 5 Lakland 44/55-02 Yamaha TRB's Or try me The bass will come with a official MM hardcase which is a little battered but still works perfectly fine Thanks, Josh.
