1.
what are the pups and pre in this please?
The pick ups are Laklands own which I think are designed with Bartolini and the preamp is the Lakland LH3. More info can be found here: http://www.lakland.com/44-02.htm
 2. Here's a quick video demo of the bass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28nMeAOQndc&feature=youtu.be I'm going from the humbucker to both and then the single coil and panning between all 3 in each posisition. EQ is all flat.
 3. Just to say Dave is fantastic to deal with and being the previous owner of this bass I can also vouch for how good it is. It can do Marcus with ease but it's far more capable than just that and of course IMHO it's the best colour combo.
 4.
How does it sound in drop D or C?
I've played in D with it and it's nice and clear and the tension is nice too, for drop C it would just need a slight action adjustment and maybe a heavier gauge but I'm sure it will sound nice and growly but still crisp and defined
 5. Hey guys, This is a bit of an urgent sale as I've just checked my accounts and I need to pay off my credit card ASAP before I head off to California at the end of the month, so unfortunately I need to sell this amazing bass which I'm already regretting :/ I think everybody knows about these great basses. They are regarded as quite the swiss-army knife of basses as they can basically replicate any tone you might, from Hi-Fi slap to a mellow dub like tone, and everything in between. I got this in a trade from WaveyDavey a few months ago and he had looked after the bass brilliantly, as such the bass is in great condition all around. And he also acquired a scratch plate for the bass which is on as you can see in the pics but it's not fixed on properly, it's purely held on with double sided tape so if you wish to remove it you simply need to pop it off. It is a 2007 model also. Pics: And Daves picture without the scratch plate: WITHDRAWN Again this is a reluctant sale and if my money situation improves quickly then I will withdraw this bass. Any other info or questions please just ask. Thanks guys, Josh.
 6. Some of you may have seen these on my recent sale thread, but here's out latest video: And the others can be found here: http://www.youtube.c...k/videos?view=1 Thanks, Josh.
 7. Just to say I've seen and heard this bass in person and can safely say Greg is a great player and a greatguy to deal with
 8.
The Police are saving me right now, and I came across this cover of The Bed's Too Big by Foals from a BBC session. I really like it. His voice works really well, reminds me of Terry from The Specials. Got any good ones? No Jaco please
Whilst not being too far off musically, no one can cover The Police and do them justice. The space between everything in the original is what makes it for me, and of course Stings vocals are icing on top of it all, but the vocals and keys in this take away from the intimacy of the original. And I just so happened to come across this thread after watching a good few hours of Police documentaries on youtube
 9.
active or passive just out of interest?
Active/Passive Push-Pull In passive it has a great jazz sounding quality but with a bit more low end.
 10. I managed to pick up a CV jazz on here a while ago for £200 which had been modified with some Wizard 64's. I can safely say it's probably the best £200 I've ever spent. Perfect Jaco-like bridge tone and with both pick ups together it sounds so warm and prominent, a complete all rounder. I even preferred it over a Marcus Miller jazz I had a little while ago, both for playability and tone and as such it was rendered useless and made its way out of my stable. I would really like to get a James Johnston Jazz as they just look brilliant and with a quick cheap mod would make it sound equally as amazing.
 11. Another video with the bass in action: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcjVTJKGYq0
 12.
I've been listening to nothing but LD50 for the past few days, such a good album! I just can't work out why their albums since are comparatively weak. Truckstop
They just became more commercial and as such their originality floundered a bit. There are still good songs on some of the later albums in which Ryan still shines through such as: Determined, Happy, IMN, Not Falling and few others but those are the ones that spring to mind. I haven't been keeping up with their latest stuff but it's a bit hard to listen to I find.
 13. If my streamer LX 5 sells soon then I might very well buy this back.
 14. I've had this bass for over 3/4 months now and I haven't really taken to it as much as I was hoping to and even though it sounded great on my bands E.P I still don't pick it up first, especially since reacquiring a 44-02, so it's time to move it on. This bass has been a fair bit of hassle too. Since getting it from the original owner I've had to have the bass professionally set up and the neck shimmed by Rob at Waghorn Guitars in Bristol in order to make this bass playable. When I received the bass, both the bridge and the nut wouldn't lower much at all and the neck had a considerable bow to it as well. All of which meant the action was at least a good 6-7mm high and wouldn't go any lower. The jack socket was also knackered but that has also been fixed. But now the bass is very much playable and all the electronics and hardware work perfectly fine. Although it should be noted that Rob found it hard to straighten the neck out fully as it was in such a bow for a long time that it's impossible to get it dead straight, so there is still a bow to the neck but it is nothing serious and a low playable action can easily be achieved. I've tried to show this in one of the pictures as best I can. Again I'd like to stress that Rob did a great job and that the bass is now very much playable and adjustable. Here it is in action in our video and as I said I used it to record the songs as well: Also the bass is over 10 years old as well, the serial number is: E-075336-00, and as such it has a few dings here and there and bit of buckle rash on the back of the body, all of which I've tried to highlight in the photos. Pics: Trades: Try me, but please no Thunderbirds or anything under £400. Price: SOLD. If anyone needs anymore info then please just ask, Thanks guys, Josh.
 15.
I aswell! Bloody love the guy. His sound is always impeccable and his sheer skill level really made me up my game I was a spotty bassist in school 10 years ago. I always wondered how he got an almost fretless tone. Any ideas what his rig was on LD50? Truckstop
Ryan swore by his Ampeg SVT 4-Pro for both studio and recording for years. I think he uses Avalons nowadays though.
 16. Easily my main inspiration along with Dirk Lance.
 17.
Hi Josh, could you give me any advantages and disadvantages you've found from using an ibook over a traditional paper book?
So far I can't think of any disadvantages at all. It's really easy to navigate between the chapters and you can place a bookmark as well if you want to remember where you are. Another advantage is that you won't be able to lose it as it's saved to your iTunes and won't take any space on the floor and it won't get damaged. I honestly can't think of any disadvantages other than not having either an iPhone/iPod/iPad but Stuart does offer the physical copy via his website www.basslinepublishing.com
I'm not usually one for using books to improve (I've just never got round to it actually) but I may start. Having the notation as well as the tab sounds like a really handy feature, I hate tabs but I'm not at the level of being able to read sheet music, that sounds like it could help this.
I've never been one for books either but this one I think is one everyone should consider having on either format, purely because the theory being taught is crucial to any players vocabulary at any level. Many people are familiar with Stuarts successful Ultimate Slap Bass book alongside his transcription books for artists such as: Level 42, Jamiroquai, Stuart Hamm, The Who, Kiss, to name a few. Those who have bought his books know how clear and easy they are to follow and that they are very accessible at any level. The tabs are written to coincide with the notation, so you can read them simultaneously and begin to familiarise yourself with notation. I believe Stuart is actually working on a sight reading & notation book which should be out soon.
 18. This is mainly for iPhone and iPad users but I still think everybody should have a little nosey. So I've just downloaded Stuart Clayton's The Bass Players Guide to Scales & Modes on iBooks and it is brilliant! As an iBook format it works amazingly well, with a nice intro video as well as audio examples of both the exercise and a backing track to practice to. My iPad is only a measly first generation but it still looks nice and crisp so on a 2 or 3 I'm certain it will look fantastic. Aside from the audio and visuals the actual content is great. Every section has a clear explanation of what is in the exercises and how best to approach them. Each exercise is presented with both notation and tab, both are easy to read and to follow along with the accompanying audio, and it covers the more simpler scales and modes as well as the more advanced ones which for me has been a great help. I'm not usually one to do this but I honestly think anyone with an iPhone/iPad/iPod and fancies having a nice and very accessible theory book to either learn something new or refresh what you already know then I can't recommend this enough Thanks guys, Josh.
Early Skyline JOs had Fralins, they switched to Lakland pickups in 2007. The first two digits of the serial number should give you the build date. I think Aeros were only fitted on early models of the Darryl Jones (not the JO).
Thanks for that mate It's 2008 model going from the serial so it's definietly Lakland pick ups.
Do you know what pickups this has?
I think they're are stock Lakland pick ups, I'm not too sure how I would go about checking if they're Fralins or Aero's though.
