1. Hi fellas, Yes I know it doesn't get much simpler than this, but I'm just wondering if I've managed to cock it up!? I bought new pots, cap, wiring and p'up for my Precision and wired it up as per these instructions; http://www.ehow.com/how_7156347_wire-fender-bass.html Sounds fine, except the controls work anti-clockwise! I've checked and re-checked looked at other wiring diagrams but don't seem to locate a problem, so am thinking I could have been sold dodgy pots, or is there something else I'm missing completely? Can anyone who knows about lecktrickery shed any light? Cheers
2. Tried one out yesterday, straight out of the box in my local shop. Gloss black and maple board - looked bloody lovely! Pretty much identical to my CV Precision, but the neck felt slightly fatter. If you like it, you'll pay the extra £50...
3.
I've been thinking about getting one of these, but this response sealed it for me! (I thought I would be the only person who had heard of Man or Astoman? on Basschat.) Sorry for the hijack, but what bass do you use for your surf stuff? I tend to use my Jazz with flatwounds, but have been toying with the idea of a Squier Jag for the looks. I have an Ashdown 4x10, so it sounds as if I've struck lucky having a cab that suits the Orange already. Bonus!
Hi Jac - Ive got a Squier CV Precision and just tend to use nickel 105's, as I say, our stuff is mainly on the punkier side of surf. I keep meaning to try some flats, its just the price that puts me off a bit! A mate played his Jazz through my TB and it sounded wicked too, and from what I've read on here, you cant go wrong with those Squier Jag's for the money...
4. Hey Duarte, I bought an OBT and combined it with an Eden Nemesis 4x10 cab, been gigging it for about a year and its been pretty good. I mainly play in a surf band and because the tone is so fat and punchy, I think it really fills the sound out nicely and compliments the thin, twangy guitar sound. We do some punky stuff too, (trying to go for an Agent Orange/Man or Astroman? type sound I guess)... Here's a clip done on a cheapy digi camera but the levels aren't too bad; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQU476iDPvQ I play in a punk band too sometimes and its just fine. The portability is a definite bonus there if you're trekking about and playing all dayers etc. and people are mainly using whatever cab is at the venue. Ive got an old PA speaker and sometimes use it for practice or smaller gigs - its pretty cool when you can carry your whole rig to the venue! The only downside for me is its that bit too bassy, but just means I play my p-bass with the tone control rolled most of the way up and the amp EQ with the treble boosted, bass cut and the middle sort of, well, in the middle really! Ive not heard anyone else moan about this though so I must just like a particularly un-bassy bass sound! Like others have said, the EQ doesn't do a huge amount - kinda bass/more bass really. I reckon a pedal would sort this out if it really bothered me but I like the fact you can plug in and play knowing its going to sound half decent straight off the bat. Anything else? Well, me and another chap who has one joke that the few seconds delay from when you flip the power on to when the LED lights up (that seems to take longer every time !!!) always makes you paranoid at the beginning of a gig that its given up the ghost! I got mine from Mansons in Exeter and they were doing them £40 less than everywhere else at the time. When I bought it i played through a SP212, it sounded pretty good but I think the general consensus is that, for what they cost you can get much better even if it means going bigger - you can get 4x10's pretty cheap 2nd hand. If size/weight is an issue and you can afford it, I hear the Barefaced Midget is the way to go with the OBT Hope this helps and I haven't rambled too much!!!
5. Evening guys 'n' dolls... I bought a cheap Fender p-bass off ebay a while ago that needed some work. I've just refinished the body, which is looking pretty good and have bought a new pickup, wiring and pots to go in. I just wanted some general advice on fitting and soldering it all together really and things to avoid or look out for, as its not something Ive done before (if someone could point me in the diretion of a clear and foolproof wiring diagram, that would be real helpful). Also, whats the deal with lining the cavity with conductive paint/tape? There was none when I bought it so wondered if it was necessary? The main reason I ask is that its a 1980's Japanese one, without the usual pickguard arrangement and the cavity in the back and wiring going through a hole drilled in the body, so may be a little tricky, hmmm... Any help appreciated - can't wait to finish the project!!! Cheers
6. Well cool - love the Ramones...and West Ham
7.
You are asking £500 for a Bad Ass & Gotohs the rest seems pretty much unexplained.......Call ne Sceptical but... YEAH CALL ME SCEPTICAL
You might want to try reading the previous 2 pages again
8. Hmm, I may give this a whirl if there's enough room fit 2 batteries. Cheers for the info guys!
9. Hi Rich, Yeah that makes sense, cheers for the reply. I was wondering about pickups too, I know these come highly recommended (and they do similar ones for the Jazz); http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/spb-1-...or-precis/66504 But the genuine Fender ones aren't much more; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Original-Pick...=item45f5579f62
10. Hi all, I've recently aquired a jap p-bass with one of these fitted - complete with chiselled out recess by the pots to house the battery! The thing is, and please excuse my ignorance - I know absolutely nothing about active stuff and have never really felt the need to get it involved...I hear they can boost low end by xxx%, but...I have an Orange Terror Bass so have plenty. Also the fact that I play in a surf band.... Anyway, this thing plays fine through my praccy amp on the E and A strings but I get nothing on the D or G, unless I attach a 9v battery. Is this normal? I would have thought I'd affect all strings? As I say, I'm not really into the whole 'active' thing and farting about with batteries etc. I wondered if there was a way it could somehow be played passively (which I'm sure I was able to do on an old Westone I borrowed from a mate once) or bypassed? Or, do I just buy a new passive p/up? Any help hugely appreciated.

12. I was wondering about this for a while too, bought the amp and thought I'd save up and get the cab later. I tried the Orange SP ones, sounded ok but just kinda expected a bit more for the money really. The 410 was tempting me but then I looked on GAK and the price had gone up from £630 to £730 - wtf? The Barefaced Midget looked like the best option, not tried one but folks on here reckon the two compliment one another really well, they're diddy and weigh feck all. It seemed like you get pretty good service too - a months trial to make sure its what you want. Worth a look. In the end an Eden Nemesis 4x10 came up for a good price locally. 500w 8 ohms, is surprisingly small for a 4x10 and only weighs 50 odd pounds I think. Sounds wicked as well and should be plenty loud enough for pretty much any gig - sorted.
13. I bought mine new but didnt get the hex wrench with it. Went back to the shop earlier and they said they dont give them out as sometimes people dont know how to use them and snap necks They did say they'd set it up for free tomorrow but I'm still going to need the right tool to do it in future - and they must get them when they get their order surely?
14. Hi, I love this bass, but after putting on some heavier gauge strings, there is more tension on the neck so the truss rod needs a tweak. Shouldn't normally be a problem, except that the hole by the nut where the allen bolt sits is very deep, so deep that you cant even see down into it to check what size allen key you need. Even if I did, it'd need the long end of the allen key so I doubt you could get enough leverage to turn it. The wood doesn't seem to have been cleaned up too well when the hole was drilled either so its tricky to feel what size key fits. Bugger. I wondered if anyone's done this adjustment on these basses? If so, what size key is needed and what is the best way to tackle it? Cheers
15. dwmb - Yeah cheers, I did find the manual to download last night. Skezza - Plymouth.
16. Solid state. These were built between 1984 and 1988. Its 200w with a 1x15 (Celestion I think) speaker and controls for;

Sensitivity (Master Volume)
6-band Graphic Equalizer
Boost
X-Over
Bass Volume
Treble Volume
On the back panel are outputs for effects (send and return), an extension cab (I've had another 1X15 on top, gives a really wicked old skool sound) and for Bi Amp mode (Treble/Bass/Post/Pre). These are very rare, I've not been able to find much more info online, but there is some here; http://www.bastom.com/blog/?p=185 It's in reasonable condition for its age, a couple of small tears in the tolex at the back of the amp and a couple of plastic corners missing (available for £5.99 per pack on evil bay). It includes a footswitch for the boost control. I've owned it for about 5 years, used it for gigging and practice and never had any problems. Why am I selling it? It's very heavy - the place we practice at now is up two flights of stairs so its been replaced with a lighter model before my sciatica comes back! The good news is it's on wheels and I fitted new ones about 6 months ago. Due to the weight its not really suitable for posting so cash on collection would be best - I'm in Plymouth, Devon. p.s. The black furry object in the bottom left of the first pic is my cat (what is it about cats and amps?) but she isn't included in the sale!

19. Bump! Anyone...? Marshall Spares Dept. only do them in sets of 4 front and rear which isnt ideal
20. Does anyone know where you can get these individually? There's a few firms, some on ebay, that do complete sets but I only need a front and a rear. My local guitar shop doesnt seem to have had any joy getting them from Marshall direct either. Any info appreciated, maybe someone has a few odd ones knocking about?
21. Ive just found the exact same thing! They sound wicked but really difficult sliding up and down - anyone know if they do free up after a while?
22. I'm playing mine through a couple of 1x10 PA speakers at the mo while I save up for a decent cab. But yeah, the volume this badboy kicks out is awesome....as is being able to carry my whole rig in one go!
