1. Agree with that, mine has bass by the shedload - I have to back it off a fair bit. Try switching it to passive if you havent already. I read somewhere that, as active basses have a higher output the active setting reduces it a bit, not the other way round like people assume.
2. Thanks for the info chaps. I dont mean to hyjack the thread and go off topic, its confusing in that I was sold some Roto Jazz flats by my local guitar shop but when I tried to fit them I found them too long (ie, if I did try to put them on the fat part of the string would be round the tuning peg). It was only then that I noticed they were LS. The DA flats were recommended so found them for a good price on hotrox, but they only do LS on there. Thats cool though if thats what I need...
3. Nice review, I've got a Sonic Blue one. Agree about the strings, they are really heavy on the frets too! Just one question - I was looking at getting some DA Chromes for it but saw that they only do them in Long Scale so didnt think they'd fit. Is that the ones you have?
4. I think they just do medium (45-65-80-100) and light. I was going to get some for my Squier p-bass but saw they only do long acale. Would these not be too long?
5. A chap called Sam Bolle for me - plays with Slacktone, Dick Dale and Agent Orange. Saw him with DD at the Luminaire in Kilburn on Friday night, and the way they both just spontaneously played off each other and the drummer was just f*cking amazing - pure, raw, hi-energy surf rock 'n' roll. Some of the best I've seen, and Dick is 72! Had a bit of a chat afterwards and he seems like a cool guy too. This is him playing with Slacktone; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdAJ_BtQ8kQ The guitar playing is just different gravy, but the bass aint too shabby either! Not seen him mentioned on here before.
6. I've got my first gig with mine tomorrow night - looking forward to unleashing it at my local
7. Ah right, cheers... Ive just replaced it as I wanted something a bit louder (and lighter - weighs a ton!) so was looking to sell it. Just had no idea how much to ask for it...
8. Hi, I have one of these, had it yonks; www.drtube.com/schematics/marshall/5522-pic.jpg I dont seem to be able to find much info about online, apart from here; www.marshallforum.com/workbench/455-bringing-. Its in reasonable nick, sounds ok, just wondered what it might be worth (it has a kinda 'vintage' look to it after all)...? Cheers to annyone who can shed any light...
9.
If you are running 2x8 Ohms, set it at 4. Why would you run in series? This would give 16 Ohms. Also, the wiring is awkward & you'd need a different socket. Are you assuming that running a cab-to-cab cable will be in series? If so, this is erroneous - it's also in parallel. Running cabs in series is know to have a looser bottom end and if one speaker blows the whole rig cuts out. In parallel everything else continues working. G.
Yep, thats exactly what I assumed! Cheers for clearing that up, it all figures now...
10. Hi guys, I know this is should be straightforward (if you know the answer) - I've just not had an amp where you can switch the impedance before... If I'm running 2x 8 ohm cabs from it in parallell (one out of each socket), do I set it at 4 or 8? And would it be the same for in series? Is there any ads/disads with either system? I know, thats 3 questions, but help is appreciated...cheers
11. Hi all, I bought a new Orange Terror Bass head the other day. I played it through one of their SP212 cabs - sounded nice and I pretty much decided to get the cab at a later date. The thing is, it sounded really bassy, maybe even a bit too much , but its difficult to equate playing in a shop booth to a live gig or practice. I also wondered if it may have just sounded that way relative to bass amps Ive played through before, none of which have been that great... I play in a surf band so do want a fat, warm deep sound to contrast with the twangy guitar but also play punk so started to think, hmm... a bit of treble to cut through two loud, distorted SG's wouldn't go amiss actually. The SP212, bassy as hell, no horn, is it the best option? Or am I over-analyzing things due to the amounnt of dosh involved? Then I saw this; Bit cheaper, horn, and its black... http://www.thomann.de/gb/gallien_krueger_212mbe.htm So am wondering what would be best to go for (around the £400 mark)? It would be cool to play through a 212 GK but havent seen them in stock anywhere, so just wondered if anyone else used them or any of the above combinations and had any thoughts? I like the portability of the Orange cabs, but the G+K isn't huge and only weighs 15kg. Decisions...
12. Hi, you may know already - Mansons in Exeter have them in stock now. Went up there and tried the Bass Terror through the 2/12 using a Mike Dirnt Squire bass. I really liked it - very bassy, nice warm, lively sound but difficult to get a feel for how it would sound for gigs in their practice rooms. I should have tried the 2/10 as well just to compare, but its easy to kind of lose yourself in that shop! Anywhoo - was impressed enough to buy the amp with the intention of getting the cab at a later date when I can scrape together the dosh...
