1.
Cheers matey, now if someone could just buy all the tat I've got listed on here I can go and get me one
GAS list update required...
2.
Ive been using a old AKG system for years and never had any drop outs, although i have had the battery drop out a few times lol. i did think it could be to do with wifi, as i had read there can be issues, but the venue i was in had no wifi connections available, not even from other buildings, so i think it was the phone causing this. Andy, the G30 is really nice, and so easy to use.
Presumably the AKG was analogue running on the old deregulated band though? Not prone to drop out, more prone to static!
3.
I've not done many gigs with my recently purchaed G30 system, but in the few I have it's worked really well, and seems to have brought out some of the highs I've never head with my old system. One strange things though, at one gig it cut out for about a second. This seemed to coincide with my iPhone receiving a text. The phone was very close to the receiver. Might be a coincidence but I'm not taking any chances and I'll keep the two well away from each other.
Bringing out the highs is really noticable when you switch. Some guitarists hate that though - they rely on the capicitance of the cable to get "their" tone... hence the cable tone feature built into some of these devices (nothing amazing - they are just treble roll off like you'd get on a passive bass). 2.4Ghz can be a little prone to interference - basically from wifi and phones. It kinda surprises me with a text - but when you think about it, it's understandable as I'm sure heard with heard phone interference when placed next to electronics. We've had the DWZ complain about RF intereference - yet it didn't actually have any impact on the performance. I know that some guys have stated that there can be issues in conference centres and hotel rooms with wireless networks... but I have to say, I've played a lot, a lot, a lot of these venues and I've never experienced any drops outs. (Mind you, we could be playing havoc with their network !) I've had Shure's wireless workbench out a few times - it's interesting to see how dirty the airwaves can be.
4. Just adding to the list - Audio-Technica System 10 Sax player has just bought one for his DPA mic. Looks to be good at the moment - and a great price being digital for circa 200 pounds. Probably worth investigating... I've not spend any time with it, so can't comment much further... but it seems to undercut most of the competition and is probably a direct competitor to the Line G6 G30... but without the battery door issue/non issue associated with the G30.
5. and all going out some Behringer monitors? Have to admit, always found that a bit crazy with RB's dance studio - cool room, with a huge array of Behringer PA to the left and right of the stage? Hope they recover it... or at least are well insured Always liked Rich Bitch - spent many hours there... never a fan of the parking though!
6.
What on earth is a "woodworm Telecaster"?
Woodworm was the logo on the headstock that Rob Williams used to use before using his signature. Looked well tacky.
7. When I went to see Queen (or 1/2 of Queen) with Paul Rogers, I seem to recall at least two Vox AC30s being swapped... mind you, that doesn't surprise me... doesn't BM run his collection of Voxii flat out?
8.
An ebs rig, Dr strings, jazz bass with an active circuit and the touch of a genius
Pretty much. A HD350 and TD650 through a 4x10, with a jazz bass, pretty much instant marcus. Even passive jazzes with the character switch engaged on the amp will put you in the ballpark.
9.
the Q-tron is the closest copy of the Mu-tron sound.
huh?
10.
Yes yes yes!
OK! OK! OK! I take it you aren't going out the house at the moment then?
11. Mate I'll drop in some A&W goodness for you - if I can get some time to get across to you this week!
12. Pricey beast but impressive 2ohm figures from a class D amp. (that's assuming it's not a stereo amp expecting 4ohm on each side) Hate the fact it hasn't got a IEC socket though - if you damage your lead, the likelihood of finding a spare at a gig in the middle of nowhere is pretty slim. At least with IECs, you are likely to find one, somewhere! Looking forward to seeing these in the flesh and hearing what they can do.
13. Sorry seller... sounds like your comms need to be clearer. If you said you were posting on a set day, problem avoided.
14. This can be caused by a intermittent ground in the amp. Has the amp ever been serviced? If not, give the amp a good clean and make sure all the screws holding down the boards are tight. There may be some traces of silicone over the screws which is used to keep the screws from turning. The silicone may have broken down. Clean it all off, tighten screws and replace the silicon (clear bath sealant will do it). If the venue electrics are noisy, you may get tweeter crackles. I've played a few venues where you can't do a lot about crackles. Anything with a tweeter (eg PA) can experience this. Dimmers and commercial fridges in close proximity are the top offenders.
15. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LD-Systems-Piece-Drum-Microphone/dp/B0083BXN7U SOS seem to rate it highly too!
16. Pavel Jazz bass SC.

18. Top end digital systems still use reserved frequencies. The con/prosumer systems, are transmitting on the 2.4 Ghz range (e.g. wifi) - so it's not going anywhere fast in terms of frequencies being sold off. Digital is the way to go - primarily because there is no compounder which is a big plus for us bass players liking our lower frequencies being untouched. The tradeoff? Latency. Not really a problem unless you are using a load of digital systems which will all add their own latency.. then its an issue. But for most, this is never going to be a problem.
19.
I'm getting fed up with folk passing sweeping statements and not stating that it is merely their opinion. An early 80s P bass for instance is for sale at the moment. It is made by an excellent maker and is no doubt a superb bass. However, is it really necessary to add that it is better than USA Fenders of the same era. I have two early 80s P basses and they are both fantastic basses. I'm not saying that they are any better or worse than any other P bass of the early 80s but to claim that the 80s bass for sale is far better is ridiculous. It is misleading to say so in the for sale forum without stating that it is the posters opinion. I don't want to clutter the post which is trying to sell the bass by making my point. This is not another Fender verses the rest post. It just happens that the P bass for sale post is the example I'm using. By all manner of means compliment a bass to help the sale but don't say it's better than something else. The next post down may be trying to sell the very bass that is being denigrated. It's not difficult to add IMO! Rant over.
Chill man. I may play your basses and think that they are the worst thing ever... or maybe the best thing ever. That's the thing about opinions... And have you also noticed that everybody that sells a bass proclaims such a thing? "Best bass I've ever played... etc"
20.
Stage Clix better than all the others
And how do you figure that then?
21. Good investment - stay digital for best results with bass. Sony DWZ, Shure GLXD (or ULXD if you are feeling particularly flush... Although you will need a license for this one too), Stageclix, Line6. All of have their plus and negatives... Such as AA batteries vs non AA, rack mount vs stomp box type... Battery powered receivers vs mains only etc... But any of the ones I've mentioned will see you ok.
22. Check this... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/205633-in-ear-monitors-help-needed/
23. Tis the world of custom bass making I'm afraid. Sorry man... hope that it crosses the finishing line in April :/
24. PS. In some situations, VHF > UHF. Depends upon how crowded the frequencies are. If you want to go wireless (highly recommended) and want my advice on what to do, I'd say plump for the new generation digital stuff. Sony DWZB30GB, Shure GLXD, StageClix, Line 6 G30/50/90... More expensive, but sound better than a cable due the lesser capacitance associated with a cable. All these are full range digital systems running on the wi-fi band... so license free. I'm yet to hear of any problems associated running these out in the field. My band uses channel 38 and 2.4Ghz systems and neither have experienced any problems - and this is band doing 2-4 gigs a week in widely varying environments.
25.
Thanks for that! So I guess the VHF Audio Technica is the worse out of the two, but the AKG UHF frequency is illegal. Perhaps I will just stick with the AKG for now until something happens, be it arrested or a phone call. Or maybe I will just stick with a lead!
Maybe this page will influence your decision... http://www.jfmg.co.uk/pages/Licence/licence.htm
