1. Not being funny - but it sounds like the application you are using your Bose system for is not the same as what the OP wants to use his for. Stated in the thread, the Bose works well with on stage instruments being at low volume. The fact that you say you are using a digital drumkit, low wattage guitar amp and low volume bass amp suggests that your on stage volume is pretty low to start with. Again, in your next example, Jazz quartet PA demands are not in the same ballpark as a rock band. Glad that the PA works for you... but I stand by what the rest of the thread is hinting towards, the Bose will not cut it with a loud band... and having been there, you won't convince me any other way!
 2. Was pretty bummed out to read the following this morning. Sad how territorial people have become over original music... https://www.facebook...514125188684606 and this coming from a bloke who has forged a career on recycled blues riffs and 12 bar chord progressions stemming from the 30s... Some of the comments are absolutely priceless though.
 3. If you aren't confident with the soldering iron method above, first port of call can be holding the neck over a boiling kettle. Steam it... and then wipe it down with some kitchen roll. Repeat. The dings will soon react. Without going all pro, you can also drop fill with some superglue and sand back. Remember to use a block - do not be tempted to do without!
 4. I've been thinking about this, when I've got some time, I'll get a track and record it straight from the desk into my portable recorder and the same but from the desk via my PSM900 (I'll also do it for the PSM200 if I can lay my hands on them) to compare.
 5.
You've got an 8Ω cab, most amps will run at 8Ω (Some EBS & some valve amps won't run at 8Ω).
All EBS amps will run at 8 Ohm. You won't get the full beans out of them at 8Ohm though. Fafner, TD and HD want 2 Ohm to deliver their full load, the others want 4.
 6.
I have an old Samson True Diversity Concert series wireless system that I used to use for guitar in the 90's but haven't used it since then. It's an analogue system and I just wondered if anyone knew the law regarding their use. Are they now illegal to use? Jazzyvee
Jeez, that is quite an old system, VHF too. Does it say a channel or frequency range on it? Hard to comment on it's use otherwise!
 7.
Will give it a go!
Cool - i'm interested in noticable compression, what it does to the low bottom end and conversely the highs, and how well it handles the transients.
 8.
Yeah my Airline is channel 70 and I believe that's still legal?
Yup. Legal as channel 70 is the "free for all" frequency band!
 9. Routers arent included because a ) its an added expense for Mackie... and b ) if your mixer starts taking out other wifi services, Mackie isn't liable.
 10.
Why would we have bike sheds when we all had drivers darling?
Botherations. One is now talking to oneself.
 11.
*this is a complete lie.
Why would we have bike sheds when we all had drivers darling?
 12.
You went to the posh school though! We had nothing unless you took your own in other than a very sad looking double bass tuned to good knows what. I had an ibanez guitar back then, failed guitarist you see....
Yeah, we all smoked behind the bike sheds using £50 notes as Rizla* *this is a complete lie.
 13. We had an Encore J in black I seem to recall... with a 50w laney. Lucky to have one by what I'm reading here... Mind you, one of the teachers who taught trombone was a sh1t hot bass player. 5 string Wal hanging up in his office with a Peterson combo... for those moments when he fancied a dabble.
 14.
I made a public apology for being anti five string though
This is true.... you're forgiven. When you get a 5, you understand why people play 5s. Laziness. You don't have to move your hand all gig.
 15.
What makes you say that the Ashdown will choke the Genz? Frequency response? Experience?
No, I think he's referring to the smoke from the inevitable fire.
 16.
Yep, I gigged my first five the day I bought it, I played terrible but probably fast forwarded my transition by six months.
Its the way to do it. Same here. And I remember you telling me you'd never move to a 5er. Ha ha.
 17.
Also use LD ME100s, but with a set of ACS T3 custom phones. Only single driver but pretty good . I'd upgrade them to T1 Lives if I had the dosh, though.
Aha! A maybe volunteer! If you plug a CD player/iPod etc into the ME100s and listen to the output, how good does it sound compared to plugging straight into the source?
 18.
I've used a Samson Airline system since 2005/6. No issues whatever.
Probably on channel 69? You do realise that's illegal now?
 19.
I've forgotten it ever happened. That was then. I will expect a meaningful comment on the video review I'm doing and posting at the weekend though.
Ok... I'll try...
 20.
I'd go for an AKG d112 used if in a budget, I uses a Shure Beta 52a or an Audix D6. Personally I prefer the Shure, so it is the one I own, but you can't go wrong with the AKG for your needs.
Coupled with a SubKick?! :P:P
 21. Better Mr Dark Lord. This will be night and day compared to the Bose system.
Is this the desk you can control with an iPad?
Yup. If Mackie did a 24/32 channel version of it, they would kill the entry level digital desk market I am sure.
You will DEFINITELY reap the benefits of micing the kick and dribbling a bit of bass through too. Can't see why your drummer would need convincing in any case, it will be a vast improvement.
Defo! Drummers love a bit of it. PS - TDL - read about setting up the compressors and gates for your mics and you'll be able to push that much better without getting to feedback. If you haven't got a bassdrum mic, a cheap dedicated bass drum mic is what you need. Chucking a SM58 in there won't do it! Of couse, me writing this is all meaningless if you still have me on block!
 22. Sent you a PM mr zed!
Regarding digital IEM's, yep I think the latency issues are the stumbling block to the development of digital IEM's and is what is stopping Line 6 and Stageclix from releasing their product offerings to the market. There is a strong demand out there and whoever overcomes this issue first will benefit from first mover advantage. I won't be convinced though until they are proven.
I think this is going to be a bit of a stumbling block for the end of chain IEM device - even if they did make the latency even smaller, there is still the stuff upchain. I can't see people selling off their existing Line6, Stageclix, Sony, whatever digital devices... expensive desks being replaced... not any time soon I would wager! I think Line6 and Stageclix announced their developments more than a little prematurely. From a logical point of view, it's just about reversing the flow... but it doesn't work quite as easy as that when the output is directly piped into your ear and the source and destination are effectively in the same place, especially when you're a singer. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a digital IEM solution that works... just can't see it happening for a while yet, especially at the cheaper end of the market!
 23.
take the combo.....put in a skip....DONE
Even better!
 24. Can't help with the LD systems I am afraid... but I would be keen to hear people's impression of them. If they are good, they should be cleaning up - the PSM200 seems to be the go to system, probably because of the Shure brand... but I'm far from convinced by it's performance. The Senn EW300 and Shure PSM900 still seem to be the systems to go for without going into crazy, crazy money but if the LD systems can get within a whif of them, that's got to be good. As for the digital IEMs, I am still very skeptical - the latency is my main concern. In the worst situation, you are going to be getting some significant latency - if you went digital wireless, through a digital desk and then through digital monitoring. I'm convinved the delay would make it very confusing to sing due to hearing the real time in your head and a noticable delay in your ears. Your brains going to hate it. Of course, if you aren't using digital anywhere in your chain, it may be acceptable... but given the fact that everything is going digital, I wouldn't want to take that step until the latency figures are well, well, well lower than where they are currently at. Have to say also, that I've been auditioning alot of CIEMs of late - and I'm not convinced that ACS are the best bang for buck either... but that's a completely different story!
 25. Common practice in the hire world is to put the ends of the sm58 in the dishwasher. Deadly serious!
