1.
Out of the ones in your initial post, I'd go with GK. Simply because everywhere and their mother stocks Markbass (so more competition both for sales and prices) and no one's heard of Ashton. If you're looking for more starter gear, then obviously the cruiser or mashall gear is better suited.
cheers for that.. the list in the op was what we already have, we were one of the first stockists of markbass in the UK, so have a pretty good relationship with them (they have done me and the other bass player great deals) hence the big markbass rig in my bedroom lol! and yeah you are right about the cruiser and marshall stuff, great for the packages we make up for people, either with a squier bass or encore bass.. i think its either gonna be hartke or maybe reopening channels with headstock to get laney. theres just too much competition for orange and ashdown in the north birmingham area, whereas we are the only GK/MB dealer that has it in stock all the time. And ashton.. were owned by peavey, there 15" and 12" combos were our best sellers, but since we cant get them anymore, need to find something to fill the void
2.
Wow...I am really out of touch here. I thought all the stuff in the intial post was beginner/middle range, bar the Markbass stuff. Maybe the price band defines the range more than the name..??
im afraid its all about the price buddy. People buy a 99 quid amp from us, then when they come back to upgrade all we have is markbass or gallien krueger at 600 quid up, need something so they can be heard with a drummer, for not much cash
3.
EBS Session 60?
yes, we had one before christmas! very nice little thing... but round these parts, we were lucky to sell it. I'm afraid for the 299 they are listed at, our towns folk would expect something to play wembley with! ha
4. aha ashdown there are two problems with ashdown.. first off, PMT is pretty much the Ashdown centre round here, and secondly, my old man has a deep distrust of ashdown gear after the first lot he had (some years ago) went spectacularly wrong in all sorts of ways.. so even though i protest that ashdown reliability is now great, he wont budge lol! we have a lot of behringer stuff in the shop, i remember the 180 watt combo, was quite a good seller back in the day, may have to get another 2
5. hartke comes from korg now, we have a lot of vox stuff from korg, so maybe the hartke stuff may be an option
6. hartke - we used to have it until soundtech lost it we cant have peavey because the shop over the road is a peavey main dealer fender.. we have had the bassman and rumble stuff in the past, and although its been good gear, customers in our neck of the woods aren't so crazy about the prices (we cant really move on fender stuff, as we are a medium sized shop, we don't get the best deal from fender). saying that, we have ordered one of the new lightweight rigs, but are waiting for them to arrive on this side of the pond i will be checking out where hartke is coming from though..
7. Hi there everybody.. I've decided to tap into the basschat community for some advice.. I work in the family owned music shop, and the bass section is becoming more and more my responsibility. At the moment we are stocking... Cruiser - beginner combos Marshall - Upmarket beginner combos Ashton - Beginner combos and giant (cheap) all valve stuff Gallien Krueger - Backline combos and MB series stuff Markbass - combos and the head/cabs Basically we are struggling to find a mid range combo to complement the current stock situation. We are in dire need of a combo (or range of combos) to fill the 200 - 400 pound void we have at the moment. We used to have Laney, but fell out with the distribution.... what would you guys suggest?
8. dont want to speak too soon, but i think ive got away with it...
9. hah! hopefully i haven't sparked an internet rumour.. again..
10. Today a spring loaded catch literally went off in my hand when trying to undo an "All in one" PA... the catch went under my finger nail and made a lot of blood come out.. after a lot of bleeding, theres a fair old wack of bruising on the skin under the nail. The nail was pretty floppy, but now its settled back down against the skin tried playing Bass, pretty much a no go, definitely no slap (which i know some of you think is probably for the best ) as its my right hand, index finger. Has anyone done this? what can i expect over the next couple of days? is it gonna fall off?

12.
Don't do anything with the Moog until you've compared the output sound through some serious bass speakers, I'd be really surprised if the Korg emulation comes close in terms of real bottom end response. No doubting the Korg's capabilities, I have it on my iPad and it's a cracking little unit, but I've yet to find an emulation of anything that holds a candle to the original in audio terms.
yeah, ive run it through my 1000w bass rig, and it sounded great, not lacking at all. I'm not really desperate for the money.. but as someone with far too many basses that dont get played, it would be silly to start the same trick with keyboards lol.. i dont know, gonna have to AB at some point
13. its only 14mb.. pretty cool when you consider how much a song is
14. Just before christmas i decided to buy an ipad, primarily so i can carry all my lead sheets, lyrics and sheet music in digital format.. and it has worked amazingly for that. However on christmas day i was presented with a voucher for the AppStore.... So on the appstore, i'm searching through all the music apps, when i come across a virtual Korg MS-20 synth.. which intrigued me as i used to have the korg legacy collection on the Mac, and it was great fun.. So for a tenner i took the plunge.. Its a complete replication on the old analogue synth, including a drum machine... plenty of amazing patches, and some wicked bass sounds.. I then discovered that its midi compatible, so i put together a little case with a DI box and a little controller i had around. The result has been an amazing synth and drum machine.. which sounds analogue, and is very easy to navigate around and recall presets and drum patterns.. and it has two kaoss pads built in!! However, this does leave me in a bit of a detritus, as its complete filling the purpose i had my Moog little phatty for. The korg software is easy to use, thanks to the touch screen of the Ipad, instead of he 10cm2 tiny lcd of the moog. Also, the ipad is tiny compared to the moog, and nowhere near as heavy. and then when im finished making wierd noises, i can surf the internet or read a book! crazy.. So, do i sell the moog, and use the money to either go skiing or buy cpbassmans shuker in the for sale section, or keep the moog incase the ipad stops working or gets slow or something? The thing is, in most sets i play there are 2/3 synth bass tracks, is it really worth carrying the big moog for that? Or will the loss of the moog be a blow to the ego i'll never recover from? (it is an item that gives me an instant cool factor infront of many young audiences) gah! decisions Any thoughts? there are some youtube demos of what the software is capable of... heres a photo of the ipad setup
15. is he selling a cab too? the description is a bit vague
16. where is it mate, and what kind of band are they expecting?
17. we have the club 2x10 and 1x15 in the shop where i work with a littlemark 3, and its incredibly light, and sounds really cool. also, its taller than most 2x10/1x15 combinations
18.
Ahhh okay then. On my Tobias, the "pan/blend" control has a center indent on it but i've always played it on fully open. Does this mean i've only been using the neck pick up all this time? When I roll it fully off, the tone is really thin, in the middle it's still quite thin but then fully open is a really nice high end and low end tone
then you sir, are a fan of the neck pickup! with all my basses that have blend, it always on the centre indent, just love the sound of it all running together!

Which Chorus?

i really want to try the carl martin bass chorus, but have never come across one... are they really worth the extra money?
20. they are for two pichup basses, where instead of separate volumes for each pickup you have a blend which lets you run either all one pickup, all the other, in between, or any point in between.. think of it like a pan control on a mixer.. hope you understand, i sure dont after reading that lol!
21. bump for edit, and having been home to my parents over christmas and playing this bass, realising i have no need to keep it and it should be being played! and price reduction to less than 400 quid!!!
22.
I think point of adding a 1x15 to a 8x10 is like someone a helping a bodybuider carry a paperclip. If you had a 4x15, then you might be taking :-)
taking what? yourself to the chiropractor i think!
23. that'll be me Radial bigshot io - two basses, there's a "dim" on the second input, which you can turn on or off, and the level of dim is variable via a pot on the back. There is also a bright switch, and a tuner out, and a mute for both channels. And the cool thing is that it is passive too, no battery or mains required..
24. Just think of the difference if you add it up... 80 inches of speaker pushing air as opposed to 15 inches. In my mind, that means the 15 won't keep up, and you are wasting watts on powering it..
25. i bet that was a lovely pair with the precision i had off you. Bump for a great looking bass, and a good seller
