1.
There are no OEM 'super drivers' with specs that can't be very nearly duplicated with an off the shelf unit.
This goes to the heart of the matter. No bass cabinet manufacturer goes to his speaker supplier and says ' I want something that is better than your top of the range speaker'. They are all, to a large extent, box stuffers, and want to hide the fact that they are just sticking a very average driver in a box and charging a lot of money for it. They will, however, ask their speaker supplier if it's possible to reduce the price by a few dollars (hence the lack of push terminals mentioned earlier). I can think of one exception, but that probably proves the rule, as they say. The only cabinet manufacturer who seems to be open about what he fits is our own Alex, but he is one of the few bass cabinet builders fitting premium quality drivers. The smaller driver manufacturers are a lot more flexible as far as custom drivers are concerned, but even here, there are limits.
 2. Received a Behringer V-Amp from James at the weekend. The whole transaction was as smooth as a baby's bottom. Thanks, James.
 3.
Oh ... I should add - check that the V-amp isn't picking up external noise. Try moving it to another location away from the amp and any power cables or power adaptors just to rule this out.
Good point. I'll try moving the V-Amp well away from the Trace later today. Funny that the TC Electronics preamp isn't affected though, using exactly the same instrument lead and mains cable and sitting right on top of the Trace. I'm using a 1-foot instrument cable into the Trace power amp input. Re your earlier post, BOD, the hum occurs on all the unbalanced outs from the Behringer, even when the Behringer is switched off (and the mains socket is switched off). The hum goes away if I disconnect the mains lead from the V-Amp or if I unplug the signal cable between the V-Amp and the Trace.
 4.
Do you not have an earth lift on the Trace to try?
Yes, and I've tried it but it makes no difference. Isn't it designed to work with balanced connections? When I tried the earth lift, I still measured continuity between the earthing point on the IEC socket and all of the jackplug earths, although I've no idea how significant that is - if at all.
 5.
Which outputs on the V-amp are you using ? Is it an XLR output or a jack output ? And the input on the Trace - is it XLR or jack ?
I'm using the various unbalanced line outputs from the V-Amp into the unbalanced line in or power amp in on the Trace. Both mono jacks.
 6. I plugged the Behringer in to my M-audio USB soundcard connected to my laptop and then my hi-fi. No problem. Sounds great through all outputs. The plot thickens. And no answer in sight. C'mon guys, somebody must know something.
 7. Just bought a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro. I plugged it in to the preamp/line in on my Trace head and it buzzes like crazy. It's unusable. I'm not exaggerating - it's dire. It sounds fine through headphones via the phones outlet. However, if I take a signal from the phones out into the Trace, I get the same awful buzzing. All the various unbalanced outs on the Behringer are the same (pre DSP, post DSP, line out, etc.) The buzz sounds just like the slight physical buzz that I can hear from the mains transformer on the Behringer if I listen very closely. The ground lift on the Behringer makes no difference, but I suspect that may not be working. Now, the odd thing is that I don't even have to switch the Behringer on for this to happen. As long as the the power lead is in the Behringer and plugged into the wall (the wall outlet can even be switched off), and the unbalanced out is plugged into the Trace, I get the buzz. This does not happen with my TC Electronics preamp, which is as quiet as a mouse when plugged into exactly the same mains sockets and amp. All right, sleuths, you have all the information you need. Enlighten me!
 8.
I wouldn't expect a standard set up to include anything to do with the electrics; it'd just be neck relief, bridge adjustment & a new set of strings.
I had a setup done by Hugh Manson, who cleaned the pots and replaced the battery as a matter of course. So, some luthiers do it.
 9. My price reduction initiated a flurry of interest but Moos3h got there first. Sorry guys.
 10. Price drop. Go on, you know you want to sound like Jaco.
 11.
how do people rate them?
I found it a bit dull and preferred the Vintage SPB-1, although the Quarter Pounder has plenty of thump with a less vintage tone.

 13.
Since joining this forum I have been very curious about this bass cab company.
Never heard of 'em. Who?
 14. Brilliant, guys, thanks - I think I can sort myself something out now.
 15. I'm doing it with my newly acquired TC Electronics preamp into my Trace 200W head. Works fine and will do until I get my power amp connected at the weekend.
 16. I'd write it down to experience. It could even prove to be a cheap lesson. Whenever anyone else asks to borrow gear (or borrow anything, actually), just tell them what happened to your Epiphone.
 17. The question's in the header really. It looks like i need some kind of short, right-angled box spanner to adjust the truss rod on my Yamaha BB. Can I get this kind of thing from an ironmonger's or do I have to ask Yamaha?
 18. Bought a TC Electronics preamp from Chris, who sent it express to make sure it didn't get held up by the impending postal strike. A gentlemen if ever there was one. The preamp is great.
 19.
Are you saying my offer was insultingly low? Don't think so!! It might have been disagreeable to you, but it was fair. :brow: D.
Sold my Behringer last year on here for £15. That was fair, too.
 20. Just rescuing this post from oblivion.
 21.
Tubular Bells - main theme. I think it's 4/4 with one 3/4 bar every other time through so it drops a note.
My transcription has 7/8 with an occasional bar of 9/8 thrown in. Sounds perfectly natural, which is the main thing.
 22. I have a dozen packs of Neutrik phono plugs that may be of interest to those who make up their own cables for recording. This is a pro product, extremely robust with an effective strain relief design. Very easy to connect. Made from machined brass with gold-plated contacts, they look the business, too. New and blister-packed in pairs. Cheapest price I have found online is £12. So I think £6 a pack is a good deal. Here are a few sites with more details: http://www.hificables.co.uk/10791/Neutrik-...o-RCA-pair.html http://www.commsandsound.com/neutrik-nf2c2...ir-18186-0.html http://www.ukdj.com/index.asp?PageAction=V...mp;ProdID=15884 Say £2 for postage and packing but I'll pay the postage on four packs or more. I'd consider swapping some of these for a set of lightweight 1/2" tuners.
 23.
Yep 2 weeks old fitted but pristine its just too damned hot for me. Bought for £45 now £35 + £2 to post. Or if you have a neck position Vintage Jazz fancy a trade
Seymour Duncan has an exchange scheme that allows you to exchange a pickup for another of your choice if you buy one and it doesn't work out. Nobody ever takes advantage of it, but it was there last time I looked. Your dealer should be able to swap it for you.
