1.
Fender quite simply "got it right" with this bass (IMO).
Which is wonderfully fair enough. Just over-using the car analogy again, there are many who A) will stick to one brand of car all of their lives because they've never been let down by them, there are equally B ) many who change brands every time to see what else lights their fire & there are C) those who decide what car they want & specify all kinds of add-ons at the point of sale. A) might have one that starts first time, gets him from home to work every day & who needs a trip computer anyway? B )has wide knowledge of many, expertise of none, but has either ended up frustrated or has the best car for the best price he can afford. or C) has the pinnacle of motors which either turns heads, rouses jealousy or "who's that flash git".. ..... no I don't know what I'm banging on about any more either. Fenders are boring .... QED. I'd better get some work done!
 2.
.................. and used largely by idiots who can't drive properly. .................. and is used largely by idiots who can't play properly.
Brilliant!
Plus ça change (plus c'est la même chose)!
Dance le jardin de Max Factor!
 3.
So... have we established that it's knot a not, and therefore it's knot going to have any effect on the neck. And, if it is a not, it would. Or have we knot?
I'm knot sure........
 4.
The car has essentially the same function today as it had in the fifties. It still uses an internal combustion engine, itself a development of the steam engine. All that has been developed are safety features, engine efficiency and the use of on-board computers. That's all.
True - to an extent, but - generally - cars these days weigh a lot less, are made with more durable parts, are more affordable, are part of a much bigger market from international sources, and are more varied to suit wider public tastes....... cars or basses.
Bolt-on necks seem to more prevalent for mass production, as i'd guess they're easier and cheaper to do
Bang on the money - and why they were made that way in the first place, for mass production before perfection. As the Telecaster book says, the fact it worked 3rd time lucky was the bonus.
 5.
Opinion expressed as fact.
As I've said before, I take all posts on this entire forum, unless otherwise stated or qualified to have an invisible (IMHO) stashed away in them somewhere. Give him his due BRX usually writes in in anyway, which is always good to see. If all posts were read in that way there'd be a lot less antzy incidents on here .......................... IMHO. ........... anyway, as I was saying, Fenders are boring..........
 6.
Oh? And why is that? I ask purely for info...
For the same reason that the guys who build them - or not many of them possibly - drive to work in one of these...... .......... things have moved on. There are far better ways of building most things now than there was then & the bass guitar is just one among that very long list.
 7.
Fair enough, but what he has pictures of is not at all a 'knot' according to some of the commentators; it's merely a grain pattern.
^this. It's not a knot. And if the OP's "knot" had moved enough to distort a fret or cause a buzz it would have shown itself in the join between the f'board & the neck.
 8.
What is remarkable about the Fender bass is that it is still the best tool for the job of playing the bass guitar in most modern popular music situations , even 60 or so years after its' initial conception .
tommyrot.
 9.
No - generally speaking, the parts are sourced differently.
Bugger, so I fell for sales talk
 10.
Yeah, I bought my Schecter because it was basically a P-bass (extra J-pickup not withstanding), but better than a MIM Fender for the money. But having tried a MIA Fender I realise I'm possibly missing out.
From way back in the day (90's?) when I bought a MIM "Contemorary" Telecaster I was under the impression that MIM were US parts shipped to Mexico for the lower worker's pay rates to make a cheaper guitar but otherwise identical, so any noticeable difference is in the hands of who put it together, though as was once pointed out there's more Mexicans working at the US plant than there is Americans so it's a mute point. Was I mis-informed, or is this not now - or never was - the case?
 11.
I would say that with a neck-thru design it probably will lose some of that traditional Jazz bass sound. Also 24 frets will require a much smaller body that the usual 20 fret design so it might also not look like a Jazz any more, and the smaller body will also lose some more of that Jazz bass sound.
Very much this ^. Though I wouldn't agree 100% with the smaller body being necessary, it is bound to move hardware around enough as to seriously affect the tone & bolt on to thru neck is one extreme to the other too. You would also have to specify exactly which pickup you love the tone of so much.
 12.
It just came to me last night, what about owners of replica kit cars? How about the guy who built the Lancia Stratos replica that appeared on Top Gear? Will he be expected to remove all the livery and badges before selling it incase someone, several owners down the line tries to pass it off as a genuine Stratos?
The kind of money that they go for I would expect any prospective buyer to know them inside out & know exactly what they're getting. In the same way that anyone who has the money to pay for an actual Fender would spot the fake logo straight away. There's a guy near me that's built a kit car Ferrari, it looks convincing as it goes past - doesn't sound anything like convincing & up close there's gaps all over the place where the panels join. All in all it seems to be a sad thing to do. Your idea was just out of fan-dom & not really intended to fool anyone.
 13. When you consider that one of the alternatives to this was that a measly 4% of sellers voluntarily made a contribution from their sale earnings it's pretty fair. It's strange, but no matter how many times I see that statistic I find myself doing a virtual shake-of-the-head-in-disbelief.
 14.
Use a fake address and always wear protection.
If she'd worn a crash-helmet she'd not have been able to hear what they were saying properly.
 15.
Mods...I think that this is turning into a personal attack which everybody feels justified in participating in. Not what BC should be known for. Since TB have removed the thread, thus making reference to it impossible, maybe it's time to lock this one??
I haven't seen the guy's post(s) on here so can't & haven't commented. Personally think there was an amount of honey-trapping/provocation of the guy with the "Come down off your high horse" line in a reply which seemed to give off his "animated" responses. Which is actually a popular pass-time on this forum when it gets quiet.
 16.
In the spirit of compromise, perhaps we should have guidelines. for example:

Dead - No problemo
Non-BC-er - Celeb - As above*

Point of order Mr Chairman, Recent threads have demonstrated that making any criticism whatsoever of Sir Paul McCartney* is in fact proof of the critic's insanity, poor taste, poor moral fibre and candidacy for forcible sterilisation lest their progeny corrupt future generations with their poor judgement.
 17.
Good point See I was right when I said earlier I was being a hypocrite.
At least you spelt it correctly! With 30 users currently viewing this thread, what's the chances of one of them being this "Ilti" (??) character, who is busy going into melt-down at his inability to reply.
 18.
We're brilliant, we are (buffs collective forum fingernails on lapel and wanders off whistling Rule Brittannia)
While suppin' char from a Clive Dunne, Corporal Jones "Don't Panic" metal tea mug I most sincerely hope!
 19.
I did too, but some folks on here can overreact. Sometimes I think we could have much more interesting conversations on here if we could keep cool and not resort to personal attacks for the lack of anything intelligent to say.
Oh I dunno - you used the term of abuse "bell-end" in a recent thread which I thought inspired. Along with "gob-sh*te" (not you) I'd completely forgotten about such words.
 20. Two small observations; maybe I'm reflecting a stereotype but I always assumed the Swedish to be more chilled than he was/is. (Notice I said "the Swedish" to avoid a turnip analogy being used?). There again the blonde one out of Abba ended up marrying her stalker IIRC, so maybe it's not that chill-ed a place, just chill-y Also, the poster who's reply kicked it off on TB has 3 "memberships" of various "clubs" that TB-ers like to have; which I find so juvenile as to negate, or at least harm, many comments from the writers, possibly no matter how valid they are. Or is there any strength of feeling for forming "clubs" on here for Basschatters who live in Greater London, or play Gus basses for eg?
 21.
Party Dancers and Model Bookings
Brilliant! We need a troupe of Morris Men at this years summer fayre ........ and can you also send a 1/48th scale Spitfire while you're at it!
 22.
The Barras might be a good place to check out. Those evil pawn shops like Cash Converters take stolen stuff all the time. If taken to a store in Glasgow they prob wont sell it there but some other town branch.
Good call, years ago Victor Morris on Argyle St had a similar rep, don't know if that's still the case?
 23.
Well I never knew that! I love that song.
I like the story about "Randy Scouse Git (Alternate Title)" too.
 24. Little known fact No. 3: Cosy, twee, love song "Last Train To Clarksville" (while they can't get credit for writing it) was an anti-war song. Clarksville was an army base for kids who ended up in Vietnam, hence the line "And I don't know if I'm ever coming home".
 25. I think the two b/w pics on the OP are from a documentary film that a Sky channel did a few years ago. Their opening song, once they actually DID play for themselves live, was "Circle Sky", which is on YT but not the version in the docu. In the docu the other three, apart from Mike, switched instruments while they played, it was very well done, & I don't remember that they missed a beat while they did it, so those two pics "could" be from the same song. I've never seen Davy play anything for any length of time other than marraccas or tambourine. The col pic of him on drums, with the stripey b'ground, is a shot off their TV show's set (possibly Daydream Believer or Love Is Only Sleeping), which were all mimed so it doesn't matter who played what I wouldn't say I'm anything like an expert on them, but I have a few albums on CD & watch anything on them that's worth watching, ie. not the crappy TV series.
