1. Due to my recent acquisition of a very lovely 1982 JV Precision, I am considering moving on my differently lovely G&L JB. Does what it says on the headstock - Leo's final take on his original Jazz bass: http://glguitars.com...es/JB/index.asp I bought it in Oct 2013 from the original owner who had bought it in 2009 as a special order direct from the US. I don't remember all the details (if I can dig anything up I'll post it), but I believe it may have been a special finish - it's a red metallic which I would probably best describe as dark burgundy. As far as I can tell from their web site not a current colour. Also a parchment scratch plate, which I believe was non-standard. It's in virtually mint condition ... I think I noticed one very slight hairline surface scratch, but I'll have a good look in daylight and try and get some clearer photos. It plays beautifully and has great resonance and sustain - even unamplified it sounds a dream - possibly the best Jazz I have ever played ... so I may change my mind when I next play it (hence 'Feeler ... '). RRP for a standard model was listed as over £2,000 last time Bass Direct had one in, and they were offering a couple of used examples in the last year or so for around £1,300 (if I remember correctly), so I'm looking for £975 collected (with G&L branded hard case) - delivery by negotiation if required, but I'd much prefer it to be seen and played first. Comes with certificate of authenticity, which I have obviously filed away somewhere safe, so will have to dig that out! Also consider trades with cash my way, e.g. for a lower priced Jazz (an early JV Squier Jazz would be tempting), or if something else took my fancy ...
2. +1 for Godin. I had an A4 a few years ago & it was sweet! Not really a 'pure' acoustic though ... more a hollow bodied electric with piezo pickup. That said, the amplified tone was far better than any 'pure' electro-acoustic I've ever heard. Strung with thomastik jazz flats and with the right eq gives a very passable double bass-ish sound ... also delivers pretty good electric tones. Mine was fretted but I also played the fretless which was stunning! Only downside for me was the weight which got a bit much by the end of a 2 hour set ☺ I replaced it with a Status Electro (original version with just the piezo pickup) which was equally good but a lot lighter! I then moved on to EUB ... ☺
3. ... oh and they can do different colours too ... ☺
4. I just ordered a P/J set for my custom built jaguar-style bass (32" scale). I've ordered a set from Hotrod pickups in Sussex (ex-Wizard pickups). I've gone for a vintage trad P pickup with a similarly vintage J64 jazz. As it's a shorter scale bass I have to fit the slightly smaller neck pickup in the bridge position, so after discussion with Dave at Hotrod I'm having it slightly overwound to compensate for the lower output of the usual neck pickup ... won't be getting them till next week, but I'll let you know how they sound! So far my experience of Hotrod has been very good ... hand wound pickups, customised to order, very knowledgeable and helpful, very reasonable prices and they're a local company too!
5. Scott bought a pedal from me just before Xmas and had to wait 2 weeks for Royal Mail to deliver. Very patient! Top bloke & excellent communication. Cheers Scott.
6. MXR El Grande bass fuzz pedal - for sale, no trades. £30 inc UK delivery. This is not a subtle effect .... it's LOUD and fuzzy, in an MXR box ... not much more to say really ... Not ure how old it is - I picked it up from this forum a while back & have been using it happily, but just ordered a Red Witch Factotum for xmas , so this is surplus to requirements. All seems to be working fine, only slight issue is it only has one of the screws holding the base plate on (that was how I received it). That seems to be all it needs, but I'll see if I can dig up any spares. Currently velcroed for my pedal board & not sure if I have, or if it ever had, any feet ... will rummage around & see if I can find any ... Will post pics as soon as I get a chance ... cheers!
7. Just bought a wonderful custom bass from Benedict ... fabulous instrument and a very smooth transaction, despite being at opposite ends of the country! Cheers :-)
8. Just bought a fabulous bass from Benedict. Despite being at opposite ends of the country it turned out to be a very straightforward transaction. Very happy! :-)
9. That would go so well with my G&L jazz ... must be just about the same colour! Sorely tempted ...

gone

Whereabouts are you?
11. Really love the sound of this (and the looks!). Very tempted, but not in a position to do anything about it just at the moment. Hopefully will be able to before long. In the meantime have a bump on me for good luck. Cheers!
12. Both the original & the replica look stunning! The big question I have is, if you have an original 60s Jazz bass, why go to the trouble & expense of having a replica made? Surely the original must be worth more intact than as separate parts? But maybe not ... just curious! Good luck anyway :-)
13. Tony just bought an amp from me. Great communication, immediate payment. Super smooth transaction. Top guy! Cheers.
14. I now find myself in need of a bass fuzz / distortion of some kind ... so open to trades ... needs to be fairly heavy distortion/fuzz ... suggestions welcome ...
15. Is the natural Skyline still available?
16. Saturday bump, before it goes on eBay ....
17. Do you still have the Delano pup? And out of interest, why did you change it, and how did it compare to the SD, or to the original? Cheers.
18. Terrific looking bass. The early 80s Squiers were great instruments - just wish I'd bought one myself at the time! Seriously tempted but I'd have to sell something first. Whereabouts are you?
19. *** Now Sold *** For Sale is my GK MB200 I've had it for a couple of years, bought used so not sure how old it is exactly but I think it was fairly new when I got it. I've only used it for home practice, occasional quiet rehearsals, and as a back up on a couple of gigs (never been needed). Fabulous little amp, but I now think I need to carry something a little more powerful as a backup, so decided to move it on. More or less as new condition, any questions please ask. Looking for £140 including UK mainland delivery.
