Whilst I'm on a roll... I would dearly love to acquire a P-retro from John East but apparently they're beyond the top end of my budget (according to the delectable Mrs ead - can't see the problem personally, but there you go). I did some interweb research and found the EMG BTC unit so I was wondering has anybody used one of these, and if so what do you think of it? Cheers A

Just contemplating upgrading some pups. I have a set of SPB-1s on a fretless and the SPB-3s may be a bit extreme for my liking so I was wondering about what appears to be the "middle" option... fyi GAK have these up at £54 (same for the Quarter Pounders) although delivery date not certain - didn't enquire at this point.

Still in progtastic use! Saw Yes in Manchester last year and Mr Squire has his bass strapped on plus a fretless held vertically in a walk up stand for (limited) use in one of the songs. I reakon Steve Howe will have two for the next tour... -

Yeah, changed quite a lot really! New bridge, SD vintage p/ups, rewired to Volume/Volume/Tone and put a decent jack socket in too. In my defence the roginal bass cost me about £70 iirc from evilbay...Was thinking about a refinish too but figured I'd never got what I spent back so haven't gone there (yet!). Sounds awesome now so really pleased with the outcome. It's my "go to" noodling bass nowadays. Oh and knurled metal knobs to replace the plastic jobbies If you're nearby you're welcome to come over for a noodle.

Not on this bridge as it has 4 screws, cost about £20 or so iirc. The alternative was going for a Gotoh 210 which would be a straight replacement I think - although tbh I'm not entirely sure whether the Yamaha standard fit bridges are mechanically identical to the Fender bridges they resemble.

Interesting point. We can (probably) all admire onanism on any instrument recognising that effort gone into demonstrating it, although I'm not sure "taste" is the right word though as that tends to be quite individual. Not sure what the right word is though. Possibly effortlessness, or the somewhat overused "being in the pocket?"

Aside from my tuner, that I don't class as an effects pedal, I have a distortion pedal, a chorus and an octaver. I find that I use them mostly when we are obliged to play covers so that we can replicate the sound of the original e.g. Muse - My Time Is Running Out, Nirvana - Come As You Are. For our original material they get infrequent use - a bit of chorus and octave mostly.

Gallien Krueger MB 200 - can't believe how good it sounds

I traded in my old Hartke HA5500 for an MB500 and have never looked back. I'm a big fan. Coupled with Barefaced cabs you have to be careful with the 'loud' control! -
Just acquired a Neo Clone pedal from Chirs. The pedal was exactly as described, well packed, promptly despatched and he kept in touch. Would happily buy again and commend Chris to other members here. Alain

Two potential problems there. Firstly, I have no recording equipment at home, and secondly I'm a techno muppet! However we have one of those digital pocket recording things for capturing rehearsals so next time we meet I shall endeavour to record some stuff without wasting everybody's time for too long!

I now have a self imposed limit of c. £500, as any more and I wouldn't feel comfortable gigging the bass. I had a Rickenbacker costing twice that but sold it as it was only every played at home and at the odd rehearsal. TBH I am not adept enough at the bass to hear much difference beyond this point. Plus the delectable Mrs ead would probably make jewelry items from my bodily particles or worse... -
My Midget is with a courier on its way to me today...can't wait to hear it in association with the Compact in my possession.

Just been in the recording studio with the Warwick. Listening to the tracks the bass sounds lush, so all bets off, it will have to be prised from my cold dead fingers now... -
I have a MIM P bass where the skunk strip on the back of the neck appears to be a bit "loose" at the headstock end in that it works its way out a little (0.5mm proud). It can be pushed back in to be perfectly flush quite easily but then works its way out again. I presume this can be fixed easily enough (what is the best way) but is it symptomatic of a a deeper problem? All advice/suggestions welcome.

I'm looking to trade these two lovely basses for one very lovely bass. I will organise some pictures when I get home tonight. Both are in excellent condition, the Warwick is a 2009 and the Fender a 2002/3 from memory but will check. Value wise I think the two are around the £800 mark and would consider cash either way for the right solution! I'm in absolutely no rush so happy to wait for the right bass (and for that matter keep the two lovely basses if there is no very lovely bass with my name on it!). My wish list: 4-string (too easily confused to handle ERBs) Fretted (have a fretless for mucking around on) Not a Rickenbacker thanks (tried and failed to fall in love) If it's a US Fender then Precision not Jazz What's out there? Just spent an hour playing with it and the multiple combinations starting with those in the manual. Huge potential I think and I'm going to have to force myself not to over use it in the band
