1.
Saw this on gumtree and was wondering if it was really worth the asking price? I own a 2005 Made in USA Sub 5 and didnt pay nearly as much for it (possibly more worn cosmetically but still)... Anyway, thoughts? http://www.gumtree.c...3#photo-content
Short answer = No. Why ? Because I bought a proper Stingray 5 for £650 a month ago
2. Hi, took my Stingray 5 (recently acquired on ebay for £650 !!) to its first rehearsal last night - what a great bass. Superb B 3rd attempt at a 5 string. 1st was a Ken Smith Burner bought on this very forum. Great bass but 16mm string spacing was a no go. Off loaded to the Gallery. 2nd was a Tobias Killer B (also bought here). Much better string spacing (17.5mm) but never got used to small body shape which made playing while sitting awkward. Again offloaded to Gallery. Already own a pre-eb and a 1987 3EQ.
3. 4.1 kg on digital scale. Lighter than both my stingray 4s
4. Just picked up a 8.5lb stingray 5. Will add photos shortly plus my two stingray 4s for good measure
5. Hi, any ideas how much a lightweight stingray 5 should weigh compared to the norm ? Thx
6. Yep, try "just around the corner" from Herbie Hancock. Classic slap bass track
7. Hi, where are you based ? Thx
8. Johnny Hammond - Gears Every track a winner Played it today on vinyl

14. String spacing is 17.5mm. Serial # = 7267. It's a 1997 model. Emailed Gibson shortly after I bought it who kindly supplied DoB and manual.
15. Hi, Tobias Killer B for sale. Will add some proper photos later (handy hint, its the one on the left). Top quality bass. Hardly used. Huge variety of tones. Wood & grain is exceptional. Build quality top notch. Only selling as I prefer large bodied basses £750. Based in W London. Supplied with hard case & manuals
16. Sounds pretty similar to my 5 string Killer B. Doubt much of the recording has been altered. Might be putting mine up for sale. Design is great but I prefer larger bodied basses
17. Dude, where are you based ?
18. Dude.....one word "don't". My 1978 is a keeper
19. Looks great. Probably 90-92 era, last version of the old style bridge. Someone should buy it. If I didn't already have a natural pre-EB I would be on this.
20. Message to mods : can this thread get pinned ?
21. Here you go : 1. Buy a NAS hard drive. About £100 from Amazon. Should have RAID to avoid risk of harddrive meltdown. 2. Download EAC. Its free and is the best CD ripper out there. 3. Burn your CDs uncompressed. Hard disk space will not be a problem. Roughly 300 CDs = 200GB. 4. Buy a digital streamer, e.g Linn Sneaky 5. Connect NAS / streamer to broadband. Control with iphone, ipad or android phone.
22.
As some of you know I love my pre EB Ray and my bought new by me 2002 Ray4 but since getting the 5'er they are not getting as much use. I play live gigs for a local singer songwriter called Dave Barron who has written and recorded all the parts on an OLP Tony Levin MM5 so last year I bought my first 5 to be able to play the shows (cant be done downtuned beleive me and I have already made the switch so its not a "whats a 5'er for" thread). I quit two long term covers bands at the same time around christmas where I could use 4 or 5 strings for the whole set and rotate my gear so the only gigs I had to do on the 5 was the Dave Barron Band stuff so the 5 is the main bass at the moment. I have a new covers band thats only just getting the songs together and a few rehersals here and there but nothing serious, My plan is/was to use only the 4 stringers for those rehersals so I can gig my 4's again but part of me deep down is saying thats stupid and just being sentimental for the sake of it, just use the 5 for everything. I wont sell my 4's without replacing them with a suitable 5 leaving me with two 5's to choose from as the money will just get swallowed by general house bills etc. The Jazz 4 will stay as its worth more to me and everyone should have a good Jazz IMO, That leaves me with the two Ray4's to sell/trade to a combined value I guess around £2300-2400 which should be a nice bass! The thing is I love my pre EB its the best 4 string bass I have ever played bar none, the chances of finding another in that condition are very slim and only going to cost me more to replace in future, Likewise the 2002 was my main bass for nearly 10 years and almost all my original band stuff was recorded on it. Keep 'em both. Who knows, maybe in 6 months or whenever you're in a different band and only need a 4 EBS freak accused me of gassing like you lot but Im not sure it is, If the pre EB had another string It would be the perfect bass which suggests a Classic Ray5 purchase is in order? I dont want a new bass for the sake of it, I want the exact same ones I have now but all with 5 strings! The Ray4 is covered by my Ray5 as its maple and 3 EQ so logical choice would be a nice Jazz 5 of some sort? Confused....................................
23. Hi, bought a Tobias Killer B on this site a few years ago. Search for details / photos. It is a great 5 string bass. Very well made. Cool green colour. Sounds great. But i have problems adjusting to the small body (my other basses are stingray 4s). Playing sitting down, the only comfortable position (resting forearm on body) is near the neck. Standing up, it balances awkwardly. Stingray 5s look terrible IMO. Hate the huge pickguard. Do i get an all white stingray 5 (masking pickguard) or an old 20th anniversary. Or keep the Tobias and persevere ?
24. Great to see (and hear) Bruce Conte from TOP
25.
I tried all variables, so now unfortunately its off back to be checked out.
My 2eq developed a similar bad buzz. Got the bass gallery to screen the pick up and control routing. Now quieter than my 3 eq.
