1. Totally agree with the whole less is more, add expression and dynamics and a love of what you do and the world passed into your bass thing though.
2. Um, yeh... I don't speak French but pointing and making big gestures tend to work no matter the language difference... Anyway, nice gear, and welcome to BC
3.
Looks like a musical version of Space Invaders to me...and I'm about to get wiped out!
4. I was just going to ask what tunes people thought where in the skill brackets of, someone who had just started, someone who had got to intermediate level, someone who was really good, i.e. could be a pro/semi-pro player, or someone who if you heard it would really drop your jaw and make your day?
5. Hey, nice to see someone my age on here. What music do you play?
6. Well I was in a local music store recently and heard the guys in there talking about something. Apparently, from what I could hear, all Rockbass basses will no longer carry the Rockbass logo but rather the Warwick W. I don't know if anone knows this to be true, and if it dose will it effect prices in any way, particularly for secondhand basses???
7. The thing with bass is unless you go out and say t yourself i will be the lead instrument, your job is to lay down the basis for the whole song. As a bassist your job is also to make that as iteresting as possible. The thing is though, because you are usually at the back when you feature with a hook line, like the version of So What by Miles Davis I did with my school jazz band everyone thinks that your great even if your a bit mediocure (spelt right...).
8. Who do you idolise, why did you pick up bass, I'm not just talking about bass players here, everything you aspire to and do off the bass, feed into your bass playing, so if theres' a footballer , who's attatchued you admire, the chances are you bring that to the bass. This thread probably already been started but i people's opinions change from day to day so I'll start it up again. Hell if you want talk about a place that inspirs you, 'cause bass playing is an art form, and you need to things, people and places to help you create the best art you can.
9. Genrally if electronic things don't work, i shout at them for a while and if that dosen't do anything i phone someone who knws what they're doing and get them to sort it out....
10. Thank you, by Sly and the Stone Higher Ground by Red Hot Chili Pepper http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZat5TbRO3A...player_embedded
11. Possibly, if i could round up the cash, fingers crossed, pick up or delivery?
12.
Quite simply, +1.
+1 (?)
13. This is going to sound wierd but fir me one of the things that has helped me most with my playing is a book of Bach transcriptions. They should be for cello but it's easy to put them onto bass. They have everything, the pieces, moving all over the place rythic varitions as well as bits with no rythmic varition where you have to be absolutley sure of your consitancy at a moderate to quick pace and be sure that your right hand is spot on for iontation and so on. If you have had the delight of playing these pieces then I would say it's well worth it.
14. I would love a MM Cutlas (spelt right ?), Marcus Miller signature and a Mayones Be4 for some reason.
15. For me PTM in Norwich are great. OK stock but nice customer service! Also GuitarGuitar in Newcastle were great, i was up there on holiday, made it clear I wasn't likley to buy and the still helped me as well asany of the others in the shop. Cookes in Norwich is nice but over priced. Is that place in the sleepy Norfolk villlage, Norfolk Guitar and Bass Centre 'cause i was thinking about hiking up there tommorow and if it is, I won't bother...
16.
The 80's was THE year for metal. yeh, MASTER OF PUPPETS!!! Woop! Cliff Burton we morn you.
17. Can i just say, that I love playing through big amps and always will, yes all the points above are valid but in the long run the reason why we by them is 'cause they have status, which in turn gives us status. Yes they move more air and can make things clearer but in the long run the ability to say we have a huge amp (which i don't) is the thing. Correct me if i'm wrong...
18. I've been playing bass for a while but would like to stretch out and throw in DB. If anyone could advise me about what to look for in your first DB, if i should go for a full scale , i'm six ft two inches, a traditional one or an acoustic, how much i should spend, stings, i know they can be like £100 or something (?), if there are any patcicular makes or anything. Please help!!! P.S. yes i do have a potencial teacher and i know that i wiould like to learn so i'm prepared to put the money in for a half decent one.
