1. Probably best off finding a bypass loop pedal that has the return always on but only sends when you depress the switch, then just get whatever delay pedal you like?
  2. I say this every time, but Way Huge Swollen Pickle. f***ing awesome, doesn't lose any low end, and actually adds a load of sub, which I likes a lot.
  3.
I can categoricallly state that jj uses signature shukers. And well, see for yourself... .
He also uses a Korg Pandora, run via the Front of House desk for some distortion effects.
  4. I had that with mine, but I left it inside for a few hours to warm up and it's been fine ever since. I think it was just cold.
  5.
Tried one this weekend and WOW. Huge low end and very musical clipping.
That's why I loves it.
  6.
I've got a digital 4-track filling out the space at the moment, but it HAS been crying out for more pedals... I'm thinking either an octaver, a wah, or if i don't succeed in getting a nice fuzz from the sansamp ill be getting a metal muff. As long as I can get them without the missus finding out!
Octaver and Fuzz is definitely a good plan. I'd avoid the Metal Muff though, never managed to get a remotely nice sound out of it, far too fizzy really. Either get one of the muff pi's or the bass one, or try out a Way Huge Swollen Pickle (awesome pedal).
  7.
so True Bypass makes no difference? I assumed that when it bypassed the pedal it'd cut the power. It's a good job I gig with PSUs then! I think it's the current draw that will determine how fast the battery drains. A 20Ma fuzz pedal would last loads longer than a 250Ma digital delay!
Yep, exactly.
  8.
I assume the as long as the pedal has a plug in the input then it is using the battery. I don't know if this is the case or not,but that's how I judge it.
This is the truth. Plugging a cable into the input generally turns a pedal on, pressing the switch merely routes the audio signal through it. Different pedals last different lengths of time on batteries. I have a booster/fuzz pedal that will last for about a week solid being plugged in, but something like a DL4, or the Digitech bass filter will last about 20mins to an hour.
  9. Sennheiser HD25's are the industry standard, and for good reason. I love mine, and most other sound engineers use them too. As was said earlier however, i would recommend mixing on some monitors, or at least decent speakers of some kind. Headphones never sound the same and can drastically skew the way you mix. Headphones are just to check as a different sound style, and are more for live use really.

    Looping

The whole 'main riff' is looping on DL4's. Watch the guy's feet with the gold guitar (especially at about 2.30).
  11. Are you wanting to play bass through it or just play it as a keyboard? For bass, use Guitar Rig, or see if you can find the Moog pedals plugins. For keys you get an awesome free one with ProTools called Vacuum which you might be able to find. Fxpansion do a free one called Orca, sounds great but it doesn't have a lot of control.
  12.
The sync'ing on the M series isn't that great. According to reports, they will eventually drift from the click so the 'Pattern Tremolo' (like the SL20) isn't that reliable in a live setting, especially compared to an SL20 or Adrenalinn. The modulations, reverbs and delays are fantastic though and it has become a significant part of my live setup. Still not figured out how to use the ringmod in a musical way though. A second hand M9 or M13 is a great investment and will hold most of its value if you decide to sell it on. Dan
If you just tap the tap tempo once on the first beat of the bar you can resync it if needed. Tis a bit annoying though.
  13. Just started using the M9 myself and it's pretty much replaced all my board except my sansamp, fuzz, moog and octaver (which it probably could replace if needed, as the one on there is pretty decent, although I know how much a lot of you love your OC2's ). One of the best bits about it is that everything can be sync'd to Midi, filters, modulation, delays. Been having some great fun with just my bass, pedalboard and an Electribe. The quality of a lot of the distortions is far better than expected from a multieffect, but they do tend to be a bit lacking in bottom end (or maybe I've just got used to my Swollen Pickle.) Definitely worth a look for the D&B/Dubstep stuff, or anything you want to sync to Midi. My only gripes at the moment are that you cant use the expression pedals to change between say a tremolo set to crotchet to a tremolo set to a quaver. This kinda rules out the changing dubstep bassline wobble speed ideas, but can be got round by using two different patches on the same bank. Also, the looper doesn't sync to Midi. This would be a great addition for the pedal, and I'm kinda surprised they haven't added the option already, but I guess no-one expected it coming from the DL4.
  14.
As far as I'm aware, the time-honored convention is for audio signal flow to be depicted as going left-to-right, top-to-bottom. An example would be a regular mixing desk, which has the channel inputs on the left (with each strip refining the signal top-to-bottom) and the master outputs bottom right.
Actually most big desks have the master section in the middle with panels of input strips either side. I think both the pedal manufacturers AND the amp manufacturers decided to have their inputs closest to your guitar output. Since you're using pedals you're going to be ok with stuff on the floor so the lead from pedals>amp doesn't really matter. You can always send it back round behind your pedalboard anyways. I don't know whether I'm just used to it or if I actually prefer it but pedalboards flowing right to left just works for me now. My only big beef with controls is the people that have the EQ going bass > treble > mid. You can go bass first or treble first, but the mids are in the MIDDLE.
  15. Try a Way Huge Swollen Pickle. Seriously. Ridiculously versatile and not only doesn't lose low end, it seems to find a load of extra sub to go with it. Absolutely love this pedal, you need to try one out. No I don't work for them.
  16. Thought about the Line6 FM4 to take care of all your filtering? I cunningly have one for sale. /shameless selling. I just switched to an M9 for a lot of my effects which has given me a lot more space for the fun/weird ones.
  17. Bit different to last time. Swapped out the DL4 and FM4 and Small Clone for the M9, so now I have space for the Moog. Now I just need a Moog Low Pass Filter which will fit perfectly if I put both the Moogs sideways. Very surprised with the quality of some of the distortions and fuzzes on the M9, I was expecting not to use them at all but they stack up pretty close to the pickle. (That's not going anywhere though.) If you're at all undecided about the M9 definitely get one, they are awesome.

    Bass EQ Pedals?
Hi all, I run a passive Fender Jazz into a Markbass LittleMark II and the sound is great, but I am just starting a second covers band where I could do with changing my sound. I will need to change for individual songs and in songs, so fingerstyle to slap and also maybe add some valve type tones for some rock stuff (although valve tones not essential). Just some basic tone shaping that will give me more than just changing pickups. I have been looking at the Sansamp Programmable Bass DI but cant seem to find any comprehensive reviews or thoughts here on basschat. I am worried that the sansamp wont do super clean and will have too much of its own sound. Would I be better with a Tonehammer or EBS Microbass or just get a Boss EQ? thoughts and opinions would be great.
Sansamp definitely imparts its own sound, but can still do super clean. I love mine, I use it with a 5 string in an acoustic pop band and also with a Jazz getting really dirty grinding bass sounds. Very versatile pedal.
