I acquired this Status from Ebay last year. It was advertised as a Status Graphite " Eclipse " and it was in a used condition but worked perfectly. I bought it because I wanted a good quality black bass for my rock covers band. On receipt of the bass I noticed that underneath a missing flake of black paint on the body that it was quite an exotic wood. So I decided to remove the paint and discovered that there was a bird's eye maple body underneath. I stripped the bass down and rebuilt it cleaning it as I went. When the neck was removed I noticed that the bass was marked as an "S1"on the neck and on the preamp, and indeed on perusing a few back brochures (Available on the status website) it became apparent that the bass is "I think" a Status Graphite Series 1. All the hardware has been removed, cleaned and replaced where necessary, I purchased a new battery box and bridge adjustment screws from the Status website to replace the previous ones which I thought would benefit from being replaced. The body has been refinished using clear Danish oil. The Pickups and active electronics were removed and cleaned up before being replaced and re-soldered and the bass functions as it should. Cosmetic condition: The bass is in reasonably good condition for its age, I think it was built in the mid/late 1990's. There are no dings to the body or neck. The head has small signs of wear on the edge but nothing major, there are also flakes of paint missing near the nut. There are slight localised surface marks on the neck but these are as a result of discoloured varnish. One of the tuning pegs (D String) is missing a rear cover which thus exposes the gear. This has never bothered me so I have not replaced it. It is just a bog standard Shaller style tuner so is easily replaceable for cosmetic reasons if required, but it works / looks fine as it is. Frets and finger board are all good. The nut is solid brass. The bass has a zero fret. The Truss rod I have found is stiffer than on my other basses; this could be due to the two graphite reinforcing inserts in the neck. These are square in profile and run the length of the neck one either side of the truss rod. The neck is true and straight and it is possible to attain a nice low action. The pickups have been polished to restore their appearance as they had shown signs of finger / string wear. The bridge has be dismantled and reassembled to clean all the gunk which had accumulated. The bridge was then lightly burnished with fine wire wool; you can see that it is solid brass underneath. The knobs have been replaced as they were plastic, worn and a bit naff. Originals can be obtained on the status website but they are six pounds each so I used alternatives which are rubberised and look better I think. The knobs are packed with insulating tape to ensure that they fit because the splines are thinner than the holes in the knobs. The bass looks [s]/ works[/s] fine as it i[s]s[/s], I have soldered the preamp wires to the pickup wires should it be necessary to ever remove either again. I suppose a proficient technician would have soldered the wires directly to the circuit board but I did not feel confident to do that in case I damaged something. (The replacement S1 Circuits' are £135 to replace) . The bass has the original high resolution hyperactive pickups fitted. The pots were sometimes a bit noisy when turned but I have treated them to some "Super 10" switch cleaner and they seem better now. PLEASE READ ADDITIONAL INFO AT BOTTOM OF POST!! So as it stands the bass is in good condition for its age. It has been used rather than abused. Would prefer not to post, I prefer to deal face to face so you can try the bass out, But I may post at buyers own expense and risk. Hope all is well. Kev. NEW INFORMATION BELOW!!! AR$GH.. I was checking the bass through my amp and noticed a hum.It probably requires its sheilding looking at. I removed the back plate and also noticed a loose wire which has become detached from the circuit board. This is now beyond my limited technical skills. This bass is now being sold as faulty and requiring attention. CURSES! The new lower price has been issued to reflect the work that requires doing. 3. Addicted to love. Because I cannot play it without visualizing myself and the rest of the band in tight black dresses. It is disturbing.
4. Alright now.. loved by all the other band members. I hate it. I suggested we drop it and they all looked at me in disbelief.
5. They were laughing because your body was becoming hairy. Your teeth were growing and your claws were begining to impede your playing. Howwwwwwwwwwll. How about bad moon rising?
6. My humble entry Found asleep on E-Bay
7. That song by The Cranberries! kin awful. I don't know what it's called because I never get to the end. It is apparently loved by ex students now in their early forties.
8. I love this. Alas I am financially embarrassed. If you manage to pay off your boiler will you be open to trades?
9. Crikey! That is some break. Is it a crush injury, hammer perhaps? Nice bass too..
10. I have the much maligned Boss LMB. It seems to work for me. Cheap too. Plenty of top end I find.
11. I have a blue Cat Bass. I still play it from time to time because the neck feels so right. It had rave reviews in its day and I have used and abused it since the 1980s.
