i think i know what you mean,i run mine through a boss bass eq pedal & cut most if the mids out, kind of a V shaped eq with the bottom of the V almost completely cut, pickup mounted on the treble side with a very tight fit & it sounds mega through my Roland. without the eq i didn't like the sound over much,i seemed to get lots of attack from my fingers as you have described & a sh*te sound. i tried a plat' pro' but couldn't get a good tone through that, infact i thought it made it worse,if you have one try a bass eq pedal & bin the plat' pro'

that's bloody mega,Rev you are a gent if we ever meet i'll buy you a pint or two, damn thats just what i need, top bloke. the strings look pretty interesting, what are they like ? many thanks. as for my clicky i do like the look of the K&K one that Gollihur have, mainly due to the jack socket being the same type as my bass max which will look nice & neat, can you think of a cheaper one i can use with the same type of socket mounting. -
in the very near future i'm planning on fitting a fingerboard clicky to my bass,i already have a bass max,i will need a small 2 channel mixer to go with this but i can't seem to find anything that looks suitable, any ideas guys ? another question,i normally play through a boss bass eq pedal & don't need/use a pre amp' however i've heard the clicky will have a much lower output than my bass max,so will i need a mixer with built in pre amp ? Gollihur music do a rockabilly upgrade kit that has everything i would need but it's not over cheap & lets face it i am a Yorkshire man (i.e. tight bastard)

i tried a plat' pro & didn't like it at all so now i just use a Boss bass eq pedal which also matches the imput impedance too.

did i hear my name the Stagg is a very good starting point & the one i sold to fumps is spot on,no quality issues at all & plays very well. speaking of which how's it going fumps ? hope you're enjoying the beast.

thinking of trying a different "feedback resistant" pickup
artisan replied to artisan's topic in EUB and Double Bass
after playing my bass last night i've decided to stick with the bassmax / super silver setup as i do get a fantastic tone with this & just get a couple of minor feedback kiling mods done to my bass. i may just stick a clicky on it at some point later though. -
well my bass is taking a trip to my local luthier for a second soundpost & a set of custom f-hole covers fitting so i'm hoping that will sort out my feedback woes as i really love the sound of my bass (when it's not howling like a bastard)

cheers fatback i may just do that & if i do i will go with the Kent Armstrong too. -
If I get round to changing the dodgy cable on it I've a kent armstrong PU you're welcome to borrow for a couple of weeks if you want to try it (it's best held on with gaffa tape - yay!) I can probably rustle up some thomastiks as well if you're stuck for strings
awesome that is a very very kind of you good sir & one i may very well take up,many thanks you are a star. :edit unless i get carried away & just buy something although i may just move the bassmax to the G string side of the bridge first & see if that helps at my next gig, suspect it won't mind.

cheers Tom, i do love the sound of my bass as it is but i just can't get it loud enough for my band without it feeding back,i'm thinking that maybee mag' is the way forward for me.i'm not too worried about the sound of a mag' as i've watched a few stray cats live videos on youtube & really like the bass sound. -
Beg or borrow and try a different pickup system. I use a Schaller on my db. Can get immense volume with no feedback (but I might just be lucky).
is that a magnetic pickup ? i am considering going magnetic as i'm getting a tad pissed off fighting feedback at every gig.
-
hi chaps,i'm seriously thinking of trying a different pickup on my bass which i'm hoping may help to reduce my feedback problems. after searching the net the Revolution Solo seems to get pretty good reviews & is reckoned to be very feedback resistant too. i'm not sure what else to try so recomendations gratefully recieved. if all else fails i may just stick a magnetic pickup & some steel strings on my bass at least that'll kill the feedback.

well last saturday we had another gig & try as i might i had bad feedback problems,so out came a roll of bright orange gaffa tape (thanks fumps) six layers of said tape later - absolutley no feedback what so ever + the best bass sound i ever had mind it looked a bugger blue burst bass + orange tape = yuck but who cares it did the job. i've now got some pretty dense black foam so a set of f hole covers will be a permanent fixture on my bass from now on. as for amp's i'm very happy with my Roland its plenty loud enough & handles all the bass i can throw at it.
As a starting point, you can't really go wrong with a K&K Bassmax. If you don't like it you'll easily sell it on.
+1 love my bass max to bits, good strong output & sounds mega
-
oh bugger spelt your name wrong, now sorted. on the bright side you've got 2 feedback threads like me now
-
recently flogged my Stagg EUB to fumps,he's totally crackers but a really good bloke & guaranteed to make you laugh.
-
I did a gig last saturday, the 1st one with a drummer for a while & had major feedback problems all night, ended up with pretty much no bottom end on my bass which sounded crap, stressed out you bet i was. i'd not got around to plugging the f holes as i was managing fine without a drummer but now he's back i'm going to get the gaffa out & try it for this saturdays gig, fingers crossed. my bass is only a cheapo Strunal but it sounds mega & has a really resonant body, plays a treat too. if it's a success i'll have a go at making some of those covers.

I bought my MIM 50'S P' bass new via Guitar Guitar's website & couldn't be happier with it.
