1. I've just managed to trade my Fender Jag for a Gibson 2014 SG bass and it's amazing! I've never been phased by the SG/EB bass (other than the SGZ) or short scales but this really kicks like a mule: for a fast neck and quite a thumpy tone What's the EB3 like and how does it compare to the modern relatives?
2.
Hello Boys... Annie (above) is quite possibly the nicest bass I've ever played - certainly the nicest I've ever owned. She had actually completely cured me of GAS...at least until you rotten sods started showing me all these pictures of SG-Zs!
Welcoooooome to the forum! Where the GAS is never ending
3.
Not really - I shall cite history - there is no historical precident for LP basses (apart from the Signature, but that's a completely different beast and the Double Cut Jr, which is a bit weird and doesn't even look like the Les Paul double cut of old which it pinches the name from) to have large tuners. Even the earliest Les Paul bass (1969-71) had Schaller M4 tuners. So did the Triumph. So does every Epiphone Les Paul bass. And every Gibson Les Paul Double Cut/Money. If you don't like the plastic O ring, and that's the only reason to change, what about these Schaller M4 Lights? http://guitar-parts....ds-M4-Light.htm No plastic O ring I can see, and 40% lighter than regular Schaller M4 tuners.
I know the signature bass, basically the epi Jack Cassidy sig, never actually seen one for sale- whether they're actually in circulation? They're actually sweet tuners! Shame my LP bass was stolen or I'd get some for that I never have issues with the basses but I feel something about R'n'R basses like Gibsons suit the old school tuners better... Like fender basses, most use the old clovers. Maybe it's just me
4.
I disagree. I don't mind so much the Schaller BMs they used to use but those Grovers they've been using lately are ears you'd get bullied for at school! Stick out a mile, look clunky and horrible, IMO. Come on, it looks like it could take flight. Do not like. The EB is a brand new bass with no history to contend with. Why clunk it up with big tuners just because Gibson used to use 'em back in the day? My RD, for comparison with the Schaller BM tuners: Look how much tighter into the headstock edge they sit. This is OK for me. But I'm still not putting them on my EB, curse you!
I actually don't mind either design as long as they're the vintage tuner. Yes they may stick out a little but they're functionally sound and I've never had any issues. However, the ones I had on my LP bass (and currently on the EB basses) I seriously didn't like and didn't think suited the bass. I used the modern tuners on stuff like Ibanez, where if the plastic O rings break, it would all break. Would you think a LP bass would suit the schallers like on the RD?
5.
I'm not parting with this SG Std. It plays so great! I think it's the best Gibson EB0/SG Std. bass I've had in 44 years.
Am I right to believe you no longer own this bass? hahaha
6. For a Lull bass though, not Gibson! Blasphemy!
7. Apologies, I see the difference switching from phone to tablet Some serious idiots in this world
8.
It originally had a £2000 buy it now!
Is that for real?!
9. Tbf, this is in perfect condition (all bar a few blemishes) and he lost the pick guard..... This surely has to be worth £500<?!
10. Well that's a relief, I did panic as I've not touched a Pbass in a while but I'm so tempted to give him an offer for one pickup, see how it arrives
11. I thought these pickups come together, wired, or is that me being stupid? 0_o
12. Let me count my pennies up and see what's left by the end of this month.... No promising but we shall see
13. It's 10 minutes of fun and not a lot of freedom if you'd like to custom an instrument. I got my hopes up on a Lotto bass for £1200 as they don't use the wide range pups
14.
Sadly doesn't work on iPhone
Does on iPad
15.
I once bought a Musicman Stingray for £500.
What the f***? Lol
16. Not a bad little bass for the cash. For me, this would make a brilliant bass and true to it's original form with a string through bridge, a belter for sub £100 '51 copy
17. They're ok I guess for £120 but not something I'll be looking to pick up any time soon Didn't J&D make ibanez SR looking basses?
18. Hahaha I bet this is the same bass me and Gust0o have owned, the little things getting around
19.
I thought i would give it a spin on rocksmith to see how my playing compared on the same tracks I normally play and it seemed I was struggling more than on the ibanez, but I scored higher on almost all of them so I guess there is something there.
The Gods of Gaming and Low End Rumble have been united in Dingwall glory Hahaha that's awesome though, I expect the 5/B string is the cleanest you've played yet? Should be with all that tension!
20. These tend to sell like hot cakes on THeBay, must be something good about them
21. Just traded my Fender Jaguar bass with Steve today for his Gibson SG Bass: everything as described. Communications were friendly and straight toward. he's a down to earth guy and I'd really like to deal with him again, if and when possible. Met up at a service station in between our homes, I really appreciate him coming all the way out and straight from work, I cannot praise this guy enough. Thank you again Steve! Stay in touch.
22.
Hey all, I'm on the lookout for a new 5 string. I like my guitars to be super simple - I'm happy to sacrifice flexibility for this, no probs. Gimme one pickup and a volume knob and I'm happy, but they just don't seem to make quality basses this way. I like 17mm string spacing, but apart from that I'm open to suggestions. I like Stingrays. I like Warwicks Not a Fender fan. Any ideas? :-) Jim
Now I normally speak against ibanez but in hindsight, they had some of the best 5 string basses I've played on a budget. It was only until I wanted a passive 5 string, they lacked in tone and necks were more like baseball bats to the usual flat necks Now, I'm tempted to go back and try them again
