I’m mainly a rock player and so like warmth, punch, some grit, but also some clarity. The RM800 is a good class D head for all of that, especially paired with the Two10. I think it’s a huge step change from the MiBass heads. I only moved mine on because I managed to snag a Glockenklang Blue Rock which is incredible.

I didn’t read your first post properly - a Two10 and RM5/800 won’t sound boomy at all, as long as you don’t go crazy on the bass EQing of course I basically ran that rig* last year and it was glorious. *two One10s but the difference is negligible.

Could be the cab too… Personally found the Rootmaster 5/800 heads to be very good. Punchy, loud, clear, a good warm core tone, drive option is nice too.

Jerry Lee Lewis was kinda Rock’n’Roll… 🤦🏼♂️

The way I read that he’s saying that either your amp was the source of the farting (through clipping pre or power amp) or the drivers really were farting probably because of too much LF content. If the amp was the source, then you need a more powerful amp. If the speakers were the source then you need more speakers. Hope that makes sense?

Haha! I think you’re probably right 😁 Good fun gig though, thanks for letting me step in your shoes 😎

GR Bass have just announced a 21.5kg 8x10 🤯 https://www.grbass.com/portfolio/at-810/ Seems the Italian brands are trying to outdo each other 😜

Two gigs this weekend. Gig 1 - Lingfield Park for a school for epileptic kids. I was depping in the band and always enjoy their gigs because the singer messes around with the songs and structures so it keeps us on our toes 🤓 Gig 2 - tiny function room in a pub for a mate’s wife’s 60th. Completely makeshift band who’d never actually played together as a 5 piece before that evening. Drummer didn’t seem to have done a huge amount of homework (“What’s that song?”) but we had a giggle and on the whole scraped through without anything horrendous happening. Nice to be back to a level of normality with these things. A quiet august will be followed by a pretty busy September I think so that’s nice.

Last night at Lingfield Racecourse. Same tonight in a tiny pub? Hmm.

Mike from Zoot has his own moulding tools for carbon necks - he set it up about 2 years ago. But he is very much a small volume builder, not wanting to detract from his quality by subbing out any of the work. Plus he has a helluva waiting list at the moment. So whilst definitely an option (I'd love a Zoot carbon-necked bass when I can!) it's not on the same scale of manufacturing as Status were... As for the Status news itself, it's sad but perhaps not a massive surprise. I used own 4 Status basses back in the day, before I discovered shorter scales...:

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!

Yep. Seems a sensible design feature but I know a lot of people complain it’s too loud 😅 -

100W Stoneham valve amp - small footprint, lighter weight
Merton replied to Merton's topic in Amps and Cabs
Haha, I had a very similar thought. My original request to Martin was a simple small footprint 100W valve head with 3 band EQ. That was it. Was content to let the finer aspects be left to the man designing and building. I do like some of the ideas floating around here and very much appreciate Martin’s input and ideas here. I’m confident we’ll end up with a pretty fine little amp but there will be a fair few people saying either “I wanted this” or “I wouldn’t have done that”. We can’t please everyone. -

On the basis of them being potentially unreliable and difficult to get hold of, I’d say not.. -

Used mine with my Barefaced One10 last night for a rehearsal. “Bloody marvellous” springs to mind. -

All that being said, if we’re trying to keep the footprint small, having so many speaker outs doesn’t quite sit on the same brief for me 😅
