1. Hi from another old timer. nice pics! If you give some outline of the technical problem i.e electrical, construction etc it may help others to give you the most helpful response. I'm sure you will get the right help one way or the other, as everyone seems to be friendly around here welcome !
2.
i picked my bass up from the croydon workshop, had an overnight drive down from the north west, stayed at some god forsaken guest house and met up with bernie early doors.....realy glad i did it though.. 10 years on i still love the guitar..
I still love mine too. let me count the ways; - because it's perpetually still in tune when I take it out of the case - because I never think of it as too heavy - because it's always worth taking that moment to look at it for just a while longer after you've just cleaned it - because it's mine
3. if you listen carefully, can you hear 'Tracks of my tears' in there by Smokey Robinson ? sounds like James has just spent the whole afternoon listening to it ! So real though. nice one !
4. throwoff - interested in your rig. Do you mind if I ask you a few things ? Just noticed the equiliser - can you offer any insights into it's effects with the markbass setup please ? i.e. what it sounds like before /after the equiliser is used, your opinions on it's usefullness ? Did you arrive at this current setup by evolution, or was it a purposeful move to get a sound the markbass couldn't offer by itself ? just curious. really curious. thanks
5. along with out to play jazz. a nice rig. Partial to the precisions myself, bless 'em
6. there's only one thing wrong with that bass. it's not mine. oh well, dream on (for now)

8. sorry xverminate. tried to edit the last entry and crashed it. I was trying to add that I also had a Hohner Jack when they came out. Stunning pair of pickups when active, none too shabby passively either. Also nice and light. cheers

13. can anyone help please? greenhorn still learning how to stand up here. Like many, I like to think I can usually get by fairly well on my own steam, but this time - Help! Does anyone know; -how do you put a picture in under your user name on a discussion string ? -how do you install that quote under the picture ? -what's an avatar? -where does everyone else usually go for these answers ? I've been everywhere man on this site and havn't seen it yet. probably myopia thanks for taking the time to read
14. HI there. Like the sound of the proposed P bass. My old '72 was maple / maple as you intend. the scratchplate was white, which made it look dead sexy. have you considered body width for overall weight issues ? similarly, there is always the body wieght vs. neck weight thing to think about. a heavier neck may want to nosedive. Again, another one is the height of the board relative to the top of the body. Get it wrong here and there will be a need for some creative solutions on the height of the bridge i.e. need to gain or lose height outside of that available from the adjusters. I only mention these as it's a topic I've been considering myself for some time. I hope this helps save you tears at bedtime. Be interested to hear how you're getting on , thoughts etc good luck with that Tom
15.
Welcome to the forum
Hi neepheid cheers for the heads up. stayed for a week in Bon Accord street in the eighties while working away from home. Saw Aliens 2 on release at the time ! Always think of Scotland fondly and get up amongst the hills whenever I can. Cool to hear from someone that lives up there rock on
16. Just recently joined and love what you've done to the place, so HI to one and all. Just want to say thanks to everyone that has taken the time to post a review, give their thoughts on stuff and generally do things for the welfare of the bass community in general. Together, you have all created a pearl of great price. I've been playing bass since the 70's and never before come across a medium that allows bassists to respond to each other in 'real time'. At last, a place where I feel at home. hope to drop back in soon Cheers !
17.
You'd be right there Guvna Ahh the good ole days remember it well .... and Fat Freddies Fry up ...
got me thinking about that. Does anyone remember the old Croydon workshop ? there always seemed to be someone in the next unit mixing down house / techno / whateveryouwannacallit next door. Reading posts from other members has reminded me - there's nothing like the feeling of waiting for your new Goodfellow. The expectant Father feeling comes to mind. Ah well ......
18.
You'd be right there Guvna Ahh the good ole days remember it well .... and Fat Freddies Fry up ...
Hiya back dunetune_jazz and also to ebs freak. As the saying goes "I don't beleive it" ! I continued that stroll and came across my 4-string GB on ebs freak's entry June 10th (pg 33 I think), as tested by Russ mentioned in the next entry. Yes Russ, I agree the neck is wide at first glance. I checked it against precision dimensions though and it worked out the same. In fact, that's part of the reason I came to own it. Back in the early to mid 90's I used to run a '72 precision and that fact came out while speaking with Bernie at Croydon. "Here try this he says" as he hands me that 4-string. It took all of about ten seconds before I said "how much"? Sold everything but my boots to get it and never looked back since. In fact, I was so sold on it that a six string followed a while later. along with a Goodfellow fretless. The 4-string was tested in 'Guitarist' magazine September 1994 along with a six-string. A five-string was also made out of the same batch of wood and the three are featured in the brochures of the time. I've gigged the four string practically every week for the last ten years and still get a buzz from having it around. Having said that, I'm seriously considering a spitfire at some stage in the future in order to preserve the Rumour 4 as a slice of the brand history. Ah, don't ya just love 'em cheers all
19.
Aiyeeeee mamama
Hi dunetune jazz, ebs_freak and all the other GB fans. Just joined the site a short while ago and having a stroll around, checking out the scenery, get to dunetune's entry for june 30th pg 34 and what !!!! my angel in the scentrefold!!!! sitting there, in the middle, is my tiger stripe 6 -string, made from the same billet as the five string in your picture GB 2. I'll try to confirm this with Bernie, but I'm pretty sure that six and the five are some of the last ones to be made at the old smaller Croydon workshop, almost certainly in the last two or three made there. thanks for the surprise and Hi to all the GB fans out there good vibes to you all
20. hi guys read with interest the discussion so far. Seems like everyone is investing a lot of time and money in getting 'that' sound that's just right, but potentially sacrificing our health from lugging the kit around. Although there sometimes is no solution to hauling the rig in and out of the car, the carrying can be severely reduced over a distance in many cases through the use of a lightweight sackbarrow or trolley. I know it seems kind of obvious, but no-one seems to have mentioned it yet. I only endorse this approach as it offers us a chance to pursue our passion without potentially damaging our health, thereby allowing us to keep rockin' for longer. strength to you all
21. hi there. if everything's ok with the cab, you have a deal. how would you like to proceed ?
