Terrible is the answer I'm afraid. From Cornwall the nearest half decent bass shops are in Bristol so travelling to check out or even to buy is a long and expensive haul. For anything else in the towns in between I reckon I own more basses than I've seen in stock (dis-regarding the usual plethora of ultra low budget beginners stuff !😂). Buying online is the most viable option and the gambles and risks that go with it 🤔

I'm trying to get my hands on a Yamaha BB425X or 1025X but they seem as rare as a five legged horse, though there is the occasional overpriced one often in some remote corner of the country 'collection only', or from overseas with shipping costs half the price of the bass! 😂 Rigby Music in Stockport are advertising a red BB424X for £350 if anyone is interested however whether it's still for sale I couldn't say (what is it with music shops and dealers who persist in advertising guitar stock they sold six months ago ?🤔)interested Cheers, Steve

Well, if you're like me, trying very hard to pin down a half decent reasonably priced 5 string with 18+ mm string spacing believe me it's pretty tough going. Every time I see something that looks the part - I'm beaten to it. I'd say fairly priced, most '5's would sell just as well as a '4'.

Hi to all fellow bass players from Cornwall (and Basschat members too). I'm also from the Bodmin area and another old guy (pushing 70). I don't gig or even jam, just enjoy tinkering/noodling with my 20+ basses plus a few six string guitars, synth, and keyboards. No idea what I'm doing - just keeps me sane on rainy days !😂

I quite agree. I think this model looks and sounds terrific. I like it in black or green but so disappointed there appears to be no unlined version.

I've found myself in the same prediciment that Paolo did when he wanted to explore a 5 string option for a Fretless. I already have two 4 string versions but wanted to try a 5. My budget is the same £400 Paolo was working with. And he's right - there is very little out there. Harley Benton offer a choice of different fretless models but I've read so many reviews where buyers have suffered various issues 'out of the box'. I'm clueless when it comes to set-ups and just about every one of the 22 basses I currently own end up visiting my local Luthier so I'm expecting that regardless of what I choose but I didn't want to buy something the Luthier ends up telling me its going to cost a small fortune to correct manufacturing flaws and imperfections. What I do like about the HB is it really does look different. It's instantly recognisable and possesses a character all of its own. In the on line videos it appears to sound pretty decent too with a nice range of mwah that I strive for from my fretless. Perhaps like Paolo I should just bite the bullet and go for it, after all what other choice is there other than boring old cheaper models of Ibanez, Yamaha, or endless Squiers and all the other hundreds of used P and J copies that dominate the bass market - and I'm talking used models within this price range. At least the HB looks different. Just hope the quality is better than the usual inferior mass produced rubbish we normally expect churned out by the PRC.
