Hi, many thanks for your thoughts and experiences with the SR505. TBH I've always liked the look and feel of the SR's right across the range but never been a fan of the tones from the stock bartolini but most of all the tight spacing on the 5's. Had the same problem with the spacing on a Sterling 5 Stingray so moved it on. -

Yep, I think so too. Either that or grab an M5/M7 then sell the M2. I'm also a sucker for a maple fretboard. -

Thanks. I like the M5 ( I already have an M2). It's on the short list. -

Many thanks for replying. The 305 looks very nice in that colour otherwise its a bit of a budget bass IMO and the thin neck and string spacing I'm not sure would be right for me. There are so many SR's out there 😳 -

I have an M2. It was my first 5. Others I've bought have come and gone but I've kept my M2. I especially love the neck and maple fretboard (I have the Teal colour). I've pondered on the M5/M7 but often wondered how much better they are than the M2 given they have so many parts common to all models. -

Yep, I've tried that position but just couldn't get on with it personally. Still, for anyone else they should give it a go. Might work for them 🤔 -

A five string Skyline 55-01 or 55-02 were always top of my list and more recently a G+L Tribute 2500 but that desire belongs to another earlier Post I put here on BC. For now it's finding a cheaper 5 to keep me going. -

Thank you very much for your reply. Your comments are very interesting. especially as you've been lucky enough to try a Space. There are a lot of 'em for sale - new and used and the secondhand prices are slowly coming down. This is a little worrying. Has the market become flooded with them or is there another reason there are so many for sale less than a year old. Personally, I think Cort haven't done themselves many favours by producing the bass in just two colours. And me? I'm also a sucker for a gloss finish or a natural wood - especially spalted - I prefer a maple fretboard too. -

I used to have a SR300 a couple of years ago but moved it on and replaced it with a Spector Legend. I felt the 300 was pretty to look at but a bit mediocre sounding and feel. Perhaps a 505/705 maybe? I do still have an Ibby EDC 4 string ergodyne which is a beast 😱 Thank you for the suggestion though. -

Actually I really, really like headless basses. I'd shortlisted the Cort Space against the new Sire M6. I even posted a thread on BC appealing for comments for anyone who'd played both but no joy. -

Many thanks for your comments, especially your observations on the Z7. I was about to pull the trigger on a secondhand 5 advertised near where I live when someone else pointed out they were exceptionally heavy. That in itself isn't too much for a deal breaker for me because I always play sitting down but I've gotten myself mighty frustrated over the years with short horned basses sliding of my knee! Perhaps an Ibanez BTB might do it for me - it's just locating one in budget that hasn't been hammered or isn't one of the earlier ones. Thanks also for the heads up on Jakesters Yammy. I replied to him separately on that 👍 -

I like Yammies. I own five (2 RBX, 3 older BB). All five string. I've deliberated long and hard on a Broad Bass. I even journeyed the 600 mile round trip to Yamaha in London a couple of years ago to try out a 435 (which they said was in stock but when I got there it wasn't). I came away with a TRBX605 which I wanted to get on with but couldn't so moved it on six months later. The 735 puzzles me. On line reviews (Lobster, Johnny Dibble) praise the build quality but otherwise don't appear to give it too much credit. The 435 seems to attract more accolade. Doesn't seem to be much in the secondhand price between a Broadbass 435 and a 735, much the same story with the TRBX 505 and the 605. Still pondering 🤔 -
Christmas out of the way, bank account seriously depleted, winter energy bills just arrived, tax man to settle up with by the 31st, but hey we all need to treat ourselves from time to time and sod the GAS issue. Winter's dreary and something to cheer us up wouldn't go amiss. However, the piggy bank isn't what you'd call overflowing - you can just about rustle up 500 quid or so. The brief is 5 string, a minimum 18mm spacing, new or used. What would you go for ?

Price drop £650 collected. Yamaha BB1025X White w/ softcase
Cornwall Steve replied to NoirBass's topic in Basses For Sale
For a 1025x it seems a fair price to me. I bought a 425x (also in White) a couple of months ago, not a mark on it. I paid just under £400. I've seen a couple of black 1025x's up for sale recently at £550 and £600. I know these are probably a bit old school but I love my 425x 😍, just couldn't stretch to the price of a 1025x at the time (both were collection only and hours a way from where I live). Good luck with the sale 👍 -
That's a very generous offer, Sir. Thank you 👍

Mmmm....Me thinks I might need to check one out 🤔 Thanks for that 👍

I'm too old and decrepit to gig anymore but always fancied getting my hands on an Indonesian 5 string Cirrus (Yep, still looking - anyone got one they don't want anymore ?). The Dyna bass has always intrigued me. Are they a bit under rated ?

I appreciate I'm replying to an 'old post' and years later my comments here would be no longer applicable to Bubinga 5's original post. However coming from someone like me (who suffers terribly from GAS 😷 and owns far too many basses 😂) I would say if you have a spare 800 quid burning a hole in your pocket, don't go out and blow it on a brand new bass at the (dare I say) cheaper end of the price spectrum. If you do, whichever bass you go for, chances are the day after you buy it it'll be worth only half of what you've paid for it. Instead my advice would be to spend your £800 on a decent secondhand bass from one of the more premium brands. Whatever you go for, always do your research. Look for what make/model holds it's value and why. If you can, try it out first - it's amazing how much variation exists from individual bass to individual bass. For example I have two identical model Sire V7's and two identical model Yamaha BB's, however it's surprising the differences between them when comparing like for like). And just make sure what you choose gives you what you really want - and you don't just choose it because you're seduced by the pretty colour or finish of the bass. Sire are adept at this - just look at the number of times they introduce new colours to their ranges and models. Oh, and it goes without saying, beware inflated prices proffered by the dealers and middle men. We all know them. Choose carefully and wisely. Take your time too - you can get a lot of bass for £800

Nah, wouldn't use one of me basses - it'd be a waste of a bass 🎸 The thought of headlining in the Sun would be too shameful to bear I'd rather join Trump's fan club (or would that be even worse 🤔) Perhaps I'll just try and moderate my GAS obsession. It'll be tough but promise I'll try

Every year I promise my wife 'no more new basses and no more new gear'. Every year I fail. But I'm weak you see. And I'm retired and it rains a lot in Cornwall. Woe is me I shall go and disembowel myself 😔 Just get myself another bass before I do.

I'm joining the Party a bit on the late side I know, but only just read your Post reaching out to RBX owners/players. I'm quite a fan of Yamaha basses, I have five including an RBX375 and a RBX775. I love the build quality across the range, IMO it really is very good for the money. This feels especially solid on the RBX models. I love the necks too though I wouldn't disagree if someone criticised them for feeling chunky. I've had some issue with the electrics on both my 375 and the 775 which was easily sorted by my local guitar tech however my biggest gripe is the muddy sound from the dull pickups. Something else which you see often commented on by 'On-Line' critics. I can see why owners whip the stock ones out and replace with something with a bit more Oomph ! I've often wondered how the 375/775 compares against a 765a ? I've tried experimenting with different strings and played the basses through different amps. At the end of the day we all have a particular sound that works best for us.. My RBX's deliver very well finger plucked but less so when slapped. Just my opinion. That said, as I say, I do love 'em and for me they are keepers. Secondhand, they're pretty good value too though beware of overly ambitious sellers thinking they're sitting on a gold mine and asking silly money.

I'd love to. But suffering Post - Christmas bank account 💰 plus I need to settle up with the Tax Man before the end of this month before I can fork out on any more 🎸 I'm certainly in the market for a 5 string Spector (I already have a 4) and just curious to know how much the seller was looking for 🤔 Many thanks for the offer though.
