1. Bump for reduced price before it's off to eBay at a higher price - I will not accept offers on this price, I really can't go any lower than this
  2. Reluctantly I've decided to sell my 2006 MIM Fender Jazz which I bought earlier this year. I've hardly used it since I bought it & I've now switched to short scale basses so it's not going to get used. It's in very good condition with a few little marks here & there as you would expect. It has the 60th anniversary badge on the back of the headstock. It has newish d'Addarios fitted & has a nice low action. Sounds just like a Jazz should! I've been selling off some of my collection of basses recently & I've now run out of boxes so I would prefer collection if possible, either from my home address near Kettering (weekends) or from my work address in Leicester (weekdays). Please feel free to PM me with any questions. (Thanks to Paul for allowing me to use your pics!)
  3. Just a quick bump - it would make a lovely Xmas pressie for someone!!
  4. Hi mate, I wouldn't put your personal details in a post. Most people on here are great but you never know who else is viewing. You would be better to PM lonestar with your details (if you hover over his name at the top left of his post it's one of the options "send message"). Good luck!
  5. Now sold on eBay. After much thought I've reluctantly decided to sell most of my gear as it's not getting used & I have some major expenditure coming up. I've recently changed back to playing short scale basses & I looked for one of these for quite a while before finding a shop with stock left. It's a Limited Edition Epiphone EB0 in Pelham Blue (Epiphone Custom Shop sticker on the back of the headstock) that I bought about a month ago & I've only used it a couple of times at home since then so obviously it's in as new condition (if anyone wants pics taken I'll take some but it's as the stock photo's below). It's got a lovely deep tone as you would expect & is nice and easy to play so would make a great beginners bass or for a guitarist wanting to dabble with bass. My only reason for selling is that, unknown to me, my wife bought me a short scale Squier Jaguar for my birthday just after I had bought this. I'll box it up if you want to arrange a courier to collect. Can be collected from Leicester or Desborough depending on day/time. I'm looking for [s]£125[/s] NOW £115 (No offers at this price!!) which is a lot less than I paid for it a few weeks ago (sorry I've not got a case for it). Specs are:

Limited edition Pelham Blue Finish
Sidewinder Humbucker pickup
Chrome Hardware
30.5" Scale
1.50" Nut Width
Rosewood Fretboard
Mahogany Neck (Bolt on)
Dot Inlays
Mahogany Body
Any questions please feel free to PM me. Cheers
  6.
Tear to my eye stuff this. No doubt that I started playing because of Slade. I've been saying for years how Jim's such an underated player - hardly ever makes the 'who's the best bassist ever' type threads here.
Me too - all my schoolmates were Quo fans but Slade were & still are one of my favourite bands. I bought my EB3 because of Jim! (wish I still had it). I too think Slade Alive is one of the best live albums ever. "How Does It Feel", "Man Who Speeks Evil" & "Far Far Away" are some of my favourite Slade songs. Great to see Jim is appreciated here. Their live version of Janis Joplin's "Move Over" is just fantastic.
  7.
Cheers for the replies. The cab is an Ampeg 410HE 500 Watt cab, Sensitivity is 89dB. With regards drummer, he can be loud but tends to be pretty controlled, same goes with the guitarist. Appreciate the reply, looking at a new head for the ampeg cab....was looking at Markbass little mark 3, or little mark tube 500....not sure yet...
Why not try the Ampeg PF-500? I have one & they are cracking amps, 350 watts @ 8ohm & 500 watts @ 4 ohm. Someone was selling one recently on here.

  9.
In the way bump!
Hi James What size is it & is it very heavy? I'd be very interested if it's not too heavy. Cheers Steve
  10. Just sold my Wharfedale combo to Alan. He's a great guy to deal with pity we didn't have more time to jam & chat! Thanks Alan for a nice easy transaction. Steve
  11. This looks a bit suspect. No serial number & it looks as though it's had one of those full headstock transfers applied to it plus the pick up looks dodgy too. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SG-Gibson-bass-/280776135591
  12.
I just knew the text was going to be in green the second I saw the pic. Up to his old tricks then. Although to be fair it looks quit nice (apart from the steam-punk control plate) .... not 600 smackers nice though.
I thought it looked quite nice too & I'm wondering now whether I can get hold of an LP style body to go with an old J-bass neck I have.

  14. Last bump with pricedrop - now £150. It's going on eBay tomorrow!
  15. Very reluctantly I'm putting my Retrovibe Aero 1 up for sale. It was bought for me by my wife earlier this year but I've only used it a couple of times at home & once at a practise where it sounded superb. Unfortunately due to the onset of rheumatism which is affecting my hand, shoulder & elbow I've had to switch to a lighter short scale bass in the hope that I can continue to play. Don't get me wrong - it's not an exceptionally heavy bass it's just that I'm suffering at the moment if I play for any length of time (the same applies to my MIM Fender Jazz which I may also sell shortly). As you can see from the pics (links below) it is a close Aerodyne copy. They are very well constructed basses with a decent range of sounds available. If you search basschat you will find some reviews. Specs are: Body: Basswood, White with Black binding Scratchplate: Black Controls: 2 x Volume, 1 x Tone Bridge: 4-string, chrome, top-load Pickups: 1 x J-type, 1 x P-type Neck: Maple, bolt-on, White with Black binding Fretboard: Rosewood Frets: 20 Overall length: 1160mm Overall width: 349mm Body thickness:36mm Scale length:845mm (34 inches) Width at nut: 38mm Width at 12th fret: 56.3mm Markers: Pearloid block markers Tuners: Chromed open-gear type Unfortunately I don't have a spare case but it will be wrapped carefully in bubblewrap & boxed (or you can collect from my home near Kettering or from where I work in Leicester). These basses have received good reviews on here & it would make a great alternative to taking your expensive bass to those more dodgy gigs we get to do . It would also make a great beginners bass with it's thin Jazz spec neck. Thanks for looking. Please PM me with any questions. Links to pics:
  16. I really think it's time that jigsaws & sanders should be licensed in the same way that shotguns are!! One of the conditions of obtaining a jigsaw licence should be that they have to be kept in a locked toolbox & never allowed to be in the same room as a bass guitar! Anyone that has a sanding fixation & owns or has access to a bass guitar will not be considered for a licence!!
  17. Hi Tom, I bought a new maple/maple Mighty Mite Jazz neck off eBay a couple of years ago from an American seller & to be honest I was a little disappointed with it. The fret ends were really sharp in places & as someone else mentioned the nut is not the best. Maybe I was just unlucky with mine, however there were no dead spots & it did fit my P Bass perfectly. It has also been on my Jazz & it fitted that well too. Hope you get a good one!
  18.
Cheers, I'm very interested - no need to check the weight though, I was just after a rough idea .
I tried overdriving this tonight, it was a bit difficult in my garage (where it is now residing) because everything in there was resonating with the volume! but you can get a nice overdriven sound by turning up the gain & selecting the Hi & Low boost buttons. Obviously I don't know what exact sound you are looking for or whether your bass is active or passive. Hope this helps. Cheers
  19.
I really fancy a VM Jag SS, but I've already got basses hidden everywhere I can hide a bass & the missus would definitely notice a new candy-apple red one.
That's why I got my missus to buy my Jaguar!! I've got 5 basses hidden in our garage that she doesn't know about (three in "empty cases" the others under my daughters stored furniture. The trick is to buy them all in the same colour. She doesn't seem to take much notice of the shape but will notice a new colour . If I'm ever asked "is that a new bass?" I always answer "no, you remember this one, you've seen it before - I've had it years/I got it when I first started playing/it's that one my parents bought me before I met you (delete as appropriate). Mind you I live in constant danger because she keeps threatening that we are going to have the garage converted into another room. There's no way I'll be able to move all of them out in time if she suddenly decides to tidy the garage up - I know eventually that I'm a dead man but hey it's been fun!
  20. Hi Jon I think it is 22kgs but I'll check for you - it is a solid well built piece of kit. I've never tried overdriving it but I would think that with the valve pre-amp section it should do that well. I'll have a play with it tomorrow & let you know. Thanks for your interest Cheers Steve
  21. Bump for pics now added (not the best pics I've ever taken but the light at the rehearsal room was poor - that's my excuse anyway!!)
  22. ON HOLD PENDING PAYMENT ETC. Hi, This is a real bargain - a virtually new good quality 2 x 10 combo for £140!! I'm sure you all know the reputation Wharfedale has for high quality speakers. In 2009 they launched this range of quality guitar & bass amp heads, speaker cabs & combo's. I've had this for just over 12 months but just after I bought it I hurt my back so I've now moved onto a lightweight head & cab so this is not getting used. If anyone wants pics I'll take some next time I'm at the rehearsal room. Basically it is rated at 200 watts with 2 x 12AX7/ECC83 valves in the pre-amp stage & so many sound shaping options that you could probably spend a week trying different sounds out! It's fairly loud for 200 watts & I'm sure would quite easily hold it's own for small to medium sized gigs. It is built entirely in house by Wharfedale including the 2 x 10" speakers & horn. Specs are below but I would have a look at the manual (link below) because there's more detail there: 200 watt hybrid amplifier 2x10" + horn Bass combo - special angled cabinet for session and club use where good directional sound is required. Mixed technology 200 watt Bass Combo 2 x 10" Wharfedale Bass Technology speakers + Titanium Angled Compression driven Horn Angled cabinet design for close sound projection All tube preamp section for signal processing and Treble, Bass and preset EQ functions High Voltage solid state Middle circuit High Definition 200 watt/8ohm Solid state power amplifier Thermostatically Fan Cooled with oversize heatsink for continuous heavy duty use Input section - Jack input, -10dB pad switch, Gain Boost switch, Tuner Mute switch, Rotary Gain control EQ section - push switches for Low Cut, Low Boost, High Boost & Mid Depth coupled with Bass control with 3 position Range switch, Mid control with 3 position Range switch, Treble control with 3 position Range switch Master Output Level control Power ON/OFF and Standby switches Series FX loop with Bypass and Level switches DI output with Ground Lift switch It also has an in built 300hz crossover linked to a jack socket so that you can add an 8ohm cab as a passive sub woofer - I've tried this & it sounds awesome! It's in great condition because it's only been used a couple of times for rehearsals & never been gigged, they are extremely well built & still retail at £469 at Electromusic. I may be interested in a trade for a bass but I would prefer cash. Due to the weight this would need to be collected from either Desborough in Northants or from where I work in Leicester. Here is a link to the manual: Cheers! http://www.amps.whar...%20brochure.pdf
  23.
I just noticed that GAK are currently running a rebate scheme on Fender and Squier basses and guitars and amps. Up to £90 off the expensive stuff, smaller rebates on the less expensive stuff (£25 off a VM Jag bass, for example). I don't know whether it's a money-off-at-checkout thing (as the name of the promotion implies) or a cashback-with-voucher thing, I don't know how long it's going to last, and I don't know if any other retailers are doing the same, but somebody may be interested. I have no affiliation with the retailer, except as a previous customer. Now then, do I really want a VM Jaguar?
I've just bought a CAR VM Jaguar Special SS on the Fender cash back scheme (I'm not going to name the retailer at this point). It was £166 after the cash back with free delivery which is a fantastic bargain & it duly arrived next day. Initial impressions were good, fit & finish were excellent, no flaws anywhere in the finish, neck joint looks good & tight & the action was low with the intonation set up perfectly (the first time I've ever bought a new bass where I've not had to tweak the truss rod or alter the intonation), this must have been how it left the factory as the box had not been opened. The problem came when I plugged the bass in - with both volume controls on full the bass sounded really good with a nice Jazzy sound but the output seemed very low. On further investigation turning the J pick up volume down & the P pick up up full left the bass with virtually no output at all on the P pick up - in fact the D/G side was producing a very slight sound but nothing at all from the A/E side. I've read a few online reviews where the reviewer has said that the Jazz pick up is not as loud as the P but none where the pick ups have not worked. It's a real shame & I'm really disappointed as the bass plays & sounds really good - so good that I almost decided to keep it & fix it myself but it's going to go back (I took the control plate off & checked for loose wires but they all seem to be soldered OK). This is why I haven't named the retailer as yet as I didn't want to associate them with this problem. However I'm a bit surprised the bass wasn't checked by them prior to dispatch & it now remains to be seen how they deal with this. I'll keep you posted. **Update** Contacted the retailer (Soundslive) on Monday, they arranged to collect the bass on Tuesday, received it back on Wednesday & checked it over then sent a replacement out which I received on Thursday. I think that is great service & their customer service dept. was a pleasure to deal with. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.
