1.
Its not the instrument, its the music. There are loads of old jazzers Off the top of my head: Milt Hinton, Ray Brown, Ron Carter (70), Steve Swallow (70), Larry Ridley, Bill Crow, Henry Grimes, Francois Rabbath, Henri Texier... There's a lot of grey hair over here!!
I guess Scott LaFaro is the exception that proves the rule
2. It seems like the majority opinion here is that being dedicated to playing a genre shouldn't preclude you from enjoying playing in another genre, and I wholeheartedly agree with this. In the past with different bands I have played Classic Rock, Soul, Blues, Pop and Disco and I've recently started taking lessons in Jazz. Each time I have thoroughly enjoyed it and at the same time learned something new and improved my playing. I think everyone can benefit from playing outside their comfort zone every once in a while.
3. Similar story. I got a Squier Precision and a Peavey TKO80 back in '88 or '89. I think I paid £100. I have no idea what happened to the amp, but I still have the Precision although I de-fretted it and resprayed it years ago.
4. um, dumb question if I may. What is raking?
5. I'd be interested to hear why nobody has suggested the Ashdown practice amps. I haven't tried one yet but was considering one for quiet accoustic jams as my rig is a bit overkill. Should I reconsider?
6. The BK ones are still available http://www.bkelec.com/Modules/MF100.htm Or did I misunderstand and you knew that already but wanted something that was physically smaller?
7. There is some really nice bass playing on the Michael Buble version.
8.
i drew a fingerboard and marked on the notes at each fret ,, then i stuck it above my bed
I tried that. I'm not getting any better at it but at least my wife can play bass as well now.
9.
oh, what the hell - Mustang Sally.
Reminds me of a contract that a band I sometime dep with had. It was a standard contract with number and length of set etc, and then at the bottom it stated: YOU WILL NOT PLAY MUSTANG SALLY. More contracts should contain this clause
10.
kind of like if you are playing in a 3 piece band and the guitarist turns his volume down , your bass will sound louder even though you have not turned up your volume
How do you know that? Has this EVER happened?
11.
