just as i got over any GAS whatsoever with my new shuker course build, this pops up. ive always loved jaguar guitars but hate the colours the bass comes in (apart from the jap white & sunburst ones) and now this pops up! i hate this forum. its the cause of GAS.

ibanez SR500, or any of the SR series at that. or the ergodyne.
A real improvement, now all you need is a maple fretboard!
nah! black/black/maple is fairly cool, but i think for a precision its got to be rosewood!

I just found it in "The Fender Bass, An Illustrated History", in that exact colour. It says: "The 1980 Precision Special, available in both Lake Placid blue and candy apple red, was a new addition to the Precision Bass line. Earning its name, this line featured white pickup covers and specially developed active circuit. It also featured a brass bridge with brass and gold parts. A trend om the early 1980s guitar industry, brass was thought to increase sustain - it also increased the instruments weight. And while metals have unique qualities, the wood is the most inportant contributer of the instrument's tone" Then under the picture of the one thats the same colour as yours it says: "This 1980 version of Lake Placid Blue looks more like Ice Blue Metallic from the 1960s".

is it active? what are the controls?

i did have a couple of days a go, but remembered ive already got a precision! 3 between me and my dad, in fact. it was a lovely looking mexican precision on ebay, in ice blue metallic. it was going quite cheap because it was pick up only, finished on £195, and it was really close to me. didn't get it though, i like my precision and have just been on a shuker course, so i didn't need it.

Depends what turquois. is it an origional fender colour, or a refin? it could be ocean turquois, or more likely a lake placid blue or something thats faded. i didn't think the precision special came in that colour, is it matching headstock? precision special has a jazz bass neck i think, if its the precision special im thinking of.

it says on the fender big block precision that it has a double jazz bass humbucking pickup. how is this different to a musicman or normal humbucking pickup? also it has a "tone shaping mini toggle switch" for pickup selection. is that any different to a normal mini toggle switch? and how does that work? will it be front coil single coil, both and back coil single coil?
-
why? £129 doesn't seem a too bad price to me?
Also start figuring out lines by ear early on (from your favourite recordings.)
+1, i've been playing bass about three years and only just started learning stuff by ear. I'm finding it really hard, but i'm sure i'd have found it easier if i started learning stuff from ear when i began.

this probably isn't much help because i haven't played a standard corvette with the standard pickups in so i've got nothing to compare it to, but my bass teacher has an AMAZING sounding corvette with EMGs in.

id say candy cola with a maple neck! blizzard pearl looks great with rosewood, that'd would be the one i'd go for, but with a maple neck i'd definatly say candy cola. the white looks good, too, with maple.
Gibbo's are renowned for that though arn't they?
I got a mate who paid a grand for a gibson (SG I think, definatly a guitar though), and three days later he gigged with it and broke the headstock off! I was killing myself with laughter when he told me!

that looks REALLY cool! it looks great!

another +1 for the S1 jazz

I'd say four string fretted or maybe five string fretted. you'll know about it if you feel the need for fretless or 7 strings or whatever. in my opinion, start basic, expand from there. I've noticed this has recently come out if you're looking for a starter bass - i think it was bass guitar magazine that gave it five stars for value. EDIT: hmmm... that link just takes you back to the ibanez home page. if you find the SR300, that was the bass i was talking about. i cant get a link to it.

When did someone put a big notice on BC saying 'Sell Here'?
Tait replied to warwickhunt's topic in Site News
i think that you should have a certain amount of posts before you can sell, or be a fully fledged member or something. i konw there are a few problems with this idea, like just posting bumps or lols in topics, but at least then you get to see all the lols and bumps and know what that person is like. -
whoever said about the torn speakers could be right. the bass amp where i go for my bass lessons has a torn speaker, the sound out of it reminds me of JJ burnell, peaches in particular, especially when im using my precision with a pick. sounds crap finger style though - so i wouldn't reccomend tearing your speaker to get the sound lol.
Paul Simonon from The Clash used a fretless Fender Precision Bass in 1981, during the period of their Sandinista! album.
thanks for that! this thread interested me because im getting into fretless bass, too. paul simonon's one of my fvaourite bass players, ill definatly give that album a listen. EDIT: by the way, I've been playing a lot of red hot chilis stuff. i know flea dont play fretless, but songs like under the bridge, soul to squeeze and give it away sound good. scar tissue also sounds good but the really high bit's hard to get right.

the OLPs are good basses for the money. i can't help ya with rockbass, though
Leave it Ricky! That's a nice colour anyway.
+1 and is that a matching headstock on the first post? every time i see a blue precision it gets my GAS going again. I'd put in some seymour duncan quarter pounders and a pearl scratchplate, a BADASS II bridge if it was me. but that paint job you're going for is going to look really cool, too!
If I had a spare £4.5k i'd buy one in the blink of an eye.....
why?
Unfortunately at this time, there is no know cure
yes there is. just don't ever use the internet or read guitar and bass magazines ever again. never go to a guitar shop or bass bash. i'd rather have the GAS.
