1. oh I get it!
  2. is that neck painted white or is it just the light? i didnt think fender painted their necks, just lacquered them.
  3.
This is the first time Ive read tht ad, and gareths link has been removed, out of curiousity may I ask what the link was?
same, i made the assumption that it was a very similar stingray. id be interested to see if i was right, though.
  4. i think this is really cool looking!
  5.
Divide £250.50p by 50p and you might Someone remind me of the movie?
£5.01? nope.

  7.
You're saying your bass is QUIETER when you slap?

my stingray when my limiter is off is distinctly LOUDER when slapping...
im with these guys, even when i play my dads $$ (corvette - i cant remember if you said yours was a corvette or not) im a fair bit louder when slapping.
  8.
I'd prefer the sp to have been designed to finish nearer the neck so they could have then separated the pups a little more. The front headstock pic looks a bit compressed/stretched(?). The neck looks pretty regular in the other shots.
in the 90s they changed the headstock shape - thats what the headstock should look like. and the bass is hideous.

    Ibanez SR305?
Soundgears are good value, though if it was me I would hold out till I had enough for an SR505BM, which is a cracking bass for the money.
+1, the SR505 is a brilliant bass. and also a +1 to what fraktal said, i've not read great things about the SR300, but haven't had chance to play it yet. i'd definatly hold out for a 505 or go for a rockbass, which i have read great things about.
  11. thats cool, i played one of these when looking for a new bass and it was absolutely excellent. as is all ibanez stuff, though. these are very cool looking, too. has anyone seen the checked version of these in black and white checks? they are one of the coolest looking basses out. on another note, shouldn't this really be in gear porn? ive noticed a few threads creeping into the gear: basses section that should really be in gear porn.
  12.
that's lovely. i'd go for a black scratchplate myself
i was thinking the same when i first saw the pic. but now the white's growing on me. i think it makes it look a little different, most white jazzes will have black or tort pickguards.
  13. that silver precision is very cool. as is that ned callan cody bass. oh, and those tokai breezysounds are excellent guitars, my guitar teacher has one in gold and it really is excellent.
  14. my uncle (simon1964's brother) once said that alfie should be called algie, because hes pointless, annoying and needs removing.
  15.
Dr D's fave mantra - buy the bass that feels right in your hands - anything else can be sorted with a screwdriver , a soldering iron and a spray gun.
try fixing this with a screwdriver, soldering iron and spray gun.
  16.
Do you have a favorite bass hero or band who's bass tone you really get on with? If so, find out what kind of bass they're using and use that as a starting point.
that doesn't necessarily work. when i was searching for my first proper bass i was a huge fan of blink 182, and mark hoppus my bass hero. his signature bass has a seymour duncan single precision pickup with only a volume knob. big, jazz bass body with a big, precision neck. my first proper bass was my ibanez SR500, with two bartolini soapbar pickups with a bartolini 3 band EQ. its got a small, light body with one of the thinnest necks you can get. different woods on both the neck and body to the mark hoppus. about as different as you can get whilst it still being a 4 string bass. i still love mark hoppus' tone (although he's far from my bass hero nowadays) but would not touch a mark hoppus jazz with a barge pole. from my experience a single precision pickup with no tone controls (or active preamp!) will not get me the sound i want. same goes for tim crommerford, i love his tone. i'd give anything for a tone like that, but have never played a jazz that, to me, sounds good. so all i'm saying is don't go by what your bass hero plays, by all means try it, but its not necessarily going to be anywhere near what you want. EDIT: just want to add i'm no having a go at what grissle said, after all he did say to use it as a starting point. im just telling you about my experiences using the whole "play what your hero plays" technique when looking for basses. if it works for you, then of course buy what your hero plays, but im just saying it didnt work for me. it wasnt even close.
  17.
I've got a 3-band fretless and I never touch the mid knob.
+1 i'm not talking stingrays here, but in general i never use mid knobs so personally i'd go for a 2 EQ. my dad used to have a 3 EQ and i loved the way it sounded, but i never used the mid knob. i've heard a lot of people say the 2 EQ sounds better though.
  18.
I really cannot see this guitar selling unless the name on the headstock means more to its future owner than how well it's been put together.
theres the problem.

  21.
OK so the Red Gus G3 5 and something of my choosing unless someone has something else specific in mind?
thats what i meant!
Sounds cool to me. I was gonna bring my SUB bass project if people are interested in that, i should have a bongo preamp fitted by then! Also i was gonna bring my reggie hamilton jazz unless anybody wants to see either my tobias or other musicman again
yeah, defo bring the SUB project.
  22.
From what I can gather he hasn't made any mention of paying to ship the bass, now or in the future. If he does, I'll let the forum decide which one of my hats I should eat.
i realise that, but i'm saying to make things fair he should pay it back, then we can all drop it.

that is an awesome looking bass.
  24. buy an ibanez ATK, its £600 cheaper than a spector or warwick and really growls. anything with a musicman pup id say. boost the bass and treble a lot, mids very slightly.
  25. first of all, i've been following this and i think i made one post in the original thread. rob - well done mate. id offer to buy you a pint like everyone else, but im not old enough to buy alcohol and you dont drink alcohol. IncX - i bet you're thrilled that your bass is gonna be there so soon. i know i would be. and a well done to everyone else involved. my respect for basschat as a community has really risen.
his 2 usernames (that we know of) and his main ip can both be banned to at least give the message he is not welcome on here anymore.
on a negative note - i'd rather they didnt cos you can get around the username and IP, and so if jake did thatd be a whole new identity again, and i'd want to know if i'm buying from him. id say we forgive jake. he should pay back the fund and then it should be done. i'm not saying forget the matter, i know this is gonna be in my mind whenever i buy from now on, we should all learn from this, and i know i'm not gonna trust jake again soon. but lets not be too hard on the guy, everyone does bad things (im not going to be foolish enough to call it a mistake, he knew what he was doing) sometimes, and provided IncX doesn't want to press charges or anything i for one am happy to let it drop.
