My ToneHammer 700 also runs at 2.67ohms load .. I wish more amps did this s it’s very useful at times
-
Yep they are rougher than Nickel or Nickel Plated but in time this reduces and your fingers toughen more ! I like the extra sense of grip when you pluck with fingerstyle as it seems to speed up the note attack ?? !! Regarding pick … used it but then flipped back to fingers and I preferred the result. Good match of strings to bass I think

I use the Ampeg SVT212AV 4ohm 600w cab ( amazing ) and added the SVT112AV ( 8 ohm ) as this results in 2.67 ohms total which I believe the Magellan 800 can handle I use the TH700 like this and very pleased with the depth and fullness of the sound. Very robust cabs

I had several guitar lessons when I was younger before swopping to bass. I was a better bass player I guess but I just enjoyed it more. I took my guitar theory and applied it to the bass and went from there. I don’t even own a guitar anymore!

Just put a set of Rotosound RS66LD strings on the Jazz Player and played with a pick it sounds amazing ( front pup only ) Im liking this sound a lot … anyone using RS66 strings on a Jazz and playing it with a pick ?

Ok thanks .. mine is a different higher output model 500ma per output and a Kettle lead power lead and power link AC output too ( to link to other AC devices ) Model Powerplant ISO 1AC Pro

I think it has a standard kettle lead connection though ? I have loads of actual power leads

After trying a few compressors this and last year and nearly settling on the Boss LMB3 i decided to get ( again ) the Ampeg Opto Comp pedal. I really like what this pedal adds ( a warm vibe ) and it pairs very well with my Ampeg SGT-Di ( in front of ) Im playing more with a pick and this adds a nice roundness to the sound and keeps the low end from booming. It’s £89 new so a bargain and a very good compressor for my needs. Definitely worth checking out

DI or Line Out ? Ashdown ABM 600 EVO iv - A Hah!!!

I have a similar situation where I run my Ampeg SGT-Di in front of my ToneHammer 700 I tend to use the Di from the amp so I get the final post EQ sound ( pedals and amp ) I don’t use speaker sims so the SGT Di output isn’t beneficial to me. -
Although I’m a competent pick player I’ve avoided it for too long. It was influenced by what I felt and heard playing next to a drummer ( rock ) and fingers gave me the thump. However the pick really shows the clarity of the note with faster attack that suits most rock songs better in my opinion. I have to resist the urge to stop using a pick as I do think for me in the band it’s got a better sound than the deep thumpy woolly sounding notes. For me I think it’s my large fingers that don’t help the finger tone. I have such a limited attack fingerstyle and for rock you need it I feel.

Update … finger style tone great that it is but I’m discovering a new love of pick playing and setting everything up to EQ based around using a pick What have I discovered 1: speed is a bit faster than my podgy digits 2: less fundamental in the note ? 3: less woolly tone ( low deep rumble ) 4: clarity improved to the extent strings, effects, basses actually sound better instead of swamped with low bass 5: Sounds very different near to amp and drummer but less so out front 6: pick size materials and gauge make a difference
-
Sometimes playing with a pick takes away the boom as less note fundamental.. not a solution if you are only a fingers player

Hi the SVT3 Pro isn’t a full valve power amp, the tubes are preamp only so no biasing needed As folk have said boosting the graphic EQ slider up boosts the output volume and should add drive ( the drive comes from the input gain etc ) You should get decent clean sound out of it and even a underpowered 450w should be very loud for gigging needs My small TE Elf (200w) can be very loud when pushed so the SVT is more than capable but the secret is the EQ slider vol boost .. That increases output volume by a huge amount if I recall
-
I had one and found it under powered for it’s claimed wattage. It needs the graphic EQ master raised ( boosted ) to get more from it but many have said it’s not a very loud amp. Shame as it’s a gorgeous sounding amp

Just ordered the Harley Benton one Hopefully should be ok 👍

I’m looking for a pedal board power supply rated at 500mA on at least one output isolated outputs for say 4 pedals tops Less than £100 if possible and a quiet supply too Will be going on a Metro 20 board I saw the Fender one ( engine room ) but it’s out of stock

What’s with all the foam around the ABM600? Do BF cabs vibrate that badly ??

What was the Magellan amp like ? Its been on my radar since running a 2.67 total cab load with my TH700 They appear to be a decent amp

The noise issue is easily missed, you really have to listen for it when the optical LED changes colour ( release ) there is a tiny crackle of sound. You only hear it playing quietly as in a band you would never hear it The guy who had mine used it with IEM and he clearly heard it too hence why I let him have it for free in the end even though he couldn’t really use it !! After three new units from different suppliers I can only think it’s a normal issue or Keeley made a huge batch with a dodgy component or something.

Just saw a bargain Ashdown ABM610 cab for sale in Bristol £200 .. that’s a bargain for someone and a great live rig cab
