  1. As a pick player I use Shape Out ( on ) which we all know pulls the mids and boosts the bass. Great for a pick and PBass .. but I cut the bass back slightly so not too boomy and cut 340hz as it’s a honky frequency but keep the main mids around 12 o clock. Add a touch of 1.3khz for sizzle and I’m good to go 👍
  2. The compressor is the weakness of the amp I feel, it drops volume too much but apart from that it works. I never use it. The ABM head has some interesting design features such as input levels influenced by the EQ and the drive settings. I often have “ Red Needle” anxiety when digging in and playing loud !! I think Ashdown could remove the compressor and the Sub control and instead put an onboard tuner or two stage drive control ( footswitchable ) that would be a great amp even better
  3. I too play a PBass and the treble control is subtle depending on cabs and strings etc ( I play with a pick ) I tend to use / boost the 1.3 KHz slider as my true treble boost The rotary treble is 7 KHz so without a tweeter I doubt you would hear a change or perhaps the hiss !
  4. Most stores have limited stock today so it’s difficult to try / find a particular bass or amp in stock locally I always order on line and try and return if I don’t like or it’s faulty or marked etc Sadly this results in so many goods arriving that are no longer new as such and often marked in some way
  5. I tend to pull back the 340hz slider especially if pick playing I find it’s a bit honky sounding with it
  6. Yes after living in Ipswich for 30 + yrs I got to know it very well.
  7. The new one I received ( in poor condition from the store ) had a noisy fan ( cable near it was catching blades ) and pre amp tube was noisy Apart from that it then cut out and was dead for a while before coming back on. I rejected it and decided against buying Orange
  8. Well … rehearsal night and no pick, it was ok but … I picked up a pick tweaked my amp back to “pick” EQ settings and BAM .. a great sound .. I’m sticking with the pick It might be that the CTM100 head EQ sits more nicely with a pick than fingers ?? Maybe it’s a tube thing in relation to attack of the note etc ?? It just sounds better with the band and fits the PBass so well
  9. I’ve considered going down the 610 cab route but … Ive found using two stacked ABM210H cabs plenty with a great height too Used at outside gig without PA support using my ABM600 and it handled it very well.
  10. Speak to Ashdown direct on the phone and they may offer a discount My CTM100 head was heavily discounted 👍
  11. Well … I miss playing finger style and achieve a better connection to the instrument. Next rehearsal I will lose the pick and see if I can get the tone and speed with just using fingers. Nice to have the choice of both but hard making the decision to which one is the best
  12. I find the RM410 / 414 or 610 cabs hard to find secondhand locally in the East
  13. I had the mk1 briefly but fan noise was horrendous so sent it back Shame as decent amp apart from that
  14. The input level has an effect on the drive sound too !!
  15. Replaced mine but popped a JJ back in as that tube is well matched I changed it because the stock tube was noisy ( I recall it was JJ that came out )
  16. I was a nearly always finger style bassist and thought it was the best for playing rock on my PBass and EB Stingray before that however …, Ive flipped to the dark side of pick playing 100% and after missing that initial change in tone you get from fingers I’ve found the benefit of pick playing as follows 1: I can play faster and although speed was good with fingers I can go faster with a pick and palm mute 2: Clarity of notes is better in a single guitar band where I’m filling the band sound with the guitarist 3: Amp volume seems louder 4: drive tone is clearer In a band context I now see why playing a PBass with a pick for rock really does work well and I’m glad I made the effort to change As an ex guitarist I found the swop very easy and quick I strongly recommended buying a few triangle Tortex picks and giving it a go
  17. Yep when I did use fingers definitely Shape “ In” was the better way
  18. Took my ABM600 to rehearsals last night with my SVT212AV cab just to give my CTM100 tubes a rest !! Pbass pick player with Shape button out ( on ) and 340khz pulled back and wow a great tone yet clear in the mix too Not quite the CTM but it’s an amazing rock sound for sure
  19. I found the LBT compressor one of the amps best features as it made it sound like a tube amp
  20. Last gig for 2022 was last Saturday and we played our normal rock covers setlist We thought back in November should we add one Christmas song but decided no lol 😂
  21. I love gigging in general as the band are friends and we enjoy the buzz and fun. Its tough work as a small pub type band as it’s often playing to small crowds in unsuitable pubs that should really even put bands on as they are not geared up for it. I often return from a gig ( happy ) and think what needs to change with my gear if anything !! Takes a lot to make a gig happen but worth it in the end
  22. Love my CTM100 too much to change Even my ABM600 isn’t light
  23. The SVT212AV is a decent cab on its own albeit a bit heavy. The important point is it’s wide enough for the head too and a decent height for a single cab
