Total Watts

  1. I use a Behringer MA400 headphone amp. There are several videos on YouTube on how to set it up.
  2. Ok, quick update now that I have been using the groundwounds for just over six weeks on my P bass: When I fitted them I needed to make an adjustment to the truss rod, presumably because of the higher tension. I found that I can set the action much lower than with roundwounds. This is a significant benefit for me. I find the strings just as playable as roundwounds, unlike the flats I tried some years ago which required much more pressure from the fingers to fret cleanly. The sound from my P bass, which has a Wilkinson pickup, is clean and punchy just how I like it, with virtually no string noise. After 6 weeks playing which includes 3 gigs, 5 rehearsals and daily practise the strings are still sounding good. After about 3 weeks I found the E string was a bit quieter than the others so raised the pickup slightly which sorted it. There used to be an intermittent dead spot around the 7th fret on the D string which disappeared when I put the groundwounds on. Can't explain that. The sound/volume is now very consistent across all strings. All in all I'm very happy with them.
  3. I've always used roundwounds in the past, usually Rotosound, but about a month ago I put a set of Elites Groundwounds on my P bass. They sound wonderful, exactly the sort of sound I like. And I particularly like the absence of string noise. With roundwounds I usually change them every couple of months when they start to go a bit dead. I'm just wondering how long the groundwounds will last. In the past month I've done 3 gigs and 4 rehearsals plus about an hour a day practise with them. They have lost some of their initial brightness but still sound good after tweaking the upper mids on the EQ a bit. How often do you change yours?
  4. Ok, thanks for all the comments guys. After a lot fruitless of searching for a used pedal I bought a new LMB-3. Partly because my other pedals are Boss and also there were no comments about the Bass Preacher. I played a gig with it on Saturday and I have found that it does exactly what I wanted, ie it doesn't affect the tone and produces a nice consistent sound with good presence in the mix. The enhance knob doesn't seem to produce any hiss at all so quite pleased about that.
  5. Thanks for the reply. I think you are right. I don't know much about compressors, didn't know I needed one until I didn't have one. The MXR seems to be favourite but I haven't come across one secondhand at the right price yet.
  6. I used a Marshall amp with an internal compressor for many years until I recently downsized my rig. Now I have an amp without a compressor I have discovered just how good the Marshall was and I feel the need for a pedal. Budget is £100. Does anybody have any views on the LMB3 vs the Bass Preacher?
