2. A few shots of my 2010 mapleglo and one from Friday night's gig I found the neck to be unwieldy and painful to fret after a while until I decided to raise the strap as high as it would go. Absolutely love it now and removing the pickup cover & fitting a black thingy to fill the gap around the pickup make it a joy to play now. 3. I began playing when I was 12 and bought my first 5 when I was 19. I played 5s exclusively for about 10 years before moving to 6s for a couple of years. I then realised that I didn't need the extra two strings or the neck that could've doubled as an ironing board (Yamaha TRB6II) so I went back to 4. I've only played 4s since and don't miss the low B thumb rest. I learned to play in D A D G tuning thanks to Bad Love by Eric Clapton and Another Brick in the Wall by the Floyd before moving to 5s so for the one or two songs I need a low D for in a night, I just tune the E down a tone.
4. Drop your panties Sir William, I cannot wait until lunch time
5. A few taken from Friday night's gig. Full of the manflu. Thankfully the adrenalin kicked in
6. I nearly didn't make last night's gig. I've been unwell all week. After we sound checked, I spent the next 2 hours sitting in a corner shivering and sweating at the same time. The first set was terrible, we were told there'd be backline supplied and considering the pub is promoted as a rock venue I thought I'd at least get an old Trace 4x10" but was instead greeted with a 200w Marshall Dynamic Bass 15" + Horn combo. The entire first set was played from memory as the only time I actually heard what I was playing were a few notes for the intro to "With a Little Help From My Friends". During the break I tried to work out what to do and discovered a Crate bass combo so with a bit of help I got the Marshall on top and low and behold I could actually hear most of what I was playing during the second half. I spent the entire set jumping around and having a ball all thanks to that musicians friend, adrenalin, before collapsing into a heap at the end of the night. More importantly, playing the Rickenbacker with the bridge pickup cover removed and the wee black plastic thing installed instead meant that I could actually play it instead of fighting between playing in front or behind it. I also raised the strap quite high up to a Chris Squire level and it meant I could play it easier as well. I'm now a very happy, though unwell, chappy
7. It could be the valve, you can pick them up for less than £10 on Ebay. Just look for an 12AX7 or ECC83. You don't need anything fancy. A JJ Tesla will do the trick Is it, all the time or just with the valve preamp selected? There will be people more expert than me along but that's what I would try first before taking it to an amp tech
8. Yeah I know the feeling, it took me long enough to be able to afford it. I fitted my new pickup surround last night ready for tonight's gig at 20 Rocks in Falkirk. Took about 10 minutes. I'll see how I get on with it tonight
9. This is still my number one choice when I sell the Rick
10. Presumably where Yamaha got the headstock design for the original Blazer basses?
11.
so near...but yet...so far
After something similar?
12. Yeah, much better than having the metal surround give same effect as a cheese grater on those well earned and hard worked for calluses.
13. I'll be using this for gig number 2 on Friday night with the Getback band at 20 Rocks in Falkirk if anyone would like to see or hear it in action. Its £7 on the door. There will be a support act first then we're on about 9:30pm. I've bought one of those black things that go around the pickup when you take the cover off so you don't take the skin off your fingers. If the bass is still here by then I'll be fitting it for the gig. They're anything from £20-40 for these but it will be included with the bass when it sells
14.
Now, do I need a Jazz.........hmmmmm
Not as much as you need a Rick Bumpo
15.
Always fancied a Rick but never took the plunge... :-/
Go on, dive in One of the really good things about Ricks is that they hold their value remarkably well. The prices always seem to be going up as well. I bought a midnight blue one about 5 years ago and it was £1169 from GuitarGuitar, their now about £1849
16. The Rotos are totally smooth, quite high tension and the best sounding of all the flats I've used but I would say that Chromes are the highest tension
17. oh yes If you want grinding Chris Squire tones then with the right EQ/overdrive it can do it but favour the neck pickup and it becomes very mellow but still retains and amazing tone that I've never found on any other bass. Do not think that these are pure clank machines that can't do anything else. There's a huge selection of tones available here. I was using this with a Hartke LH500 and its actually capable of overdriving the preamp valve. I'm also in no rush to sell so won't accept any lowball offers. If its still here by the end of August then it'll be coming with me to Liverpool when my band play the Cavern club amongst other venues as part of International Beatles week.
18. And of course Photobucket has decided to do some of the pictures upside down

21. I haven't had this very long but already I realise that its just not the bass for me. This is a 2010 model so it has the full width fretboard inlays, vintage tone selector and walnut headstock wings. I've had a good look and cannot find a single mark on it which is unsurprising considering its only done 2 gigs since new. I always find the A & D strings on Ricks too floppy so I've fitted a set of Legacy 45 -105 gauge strings which are apparently Roto nickels in a different box. I will be including the original ones as well. It comes in its case with keys, allen keys for the bridge and original Rick polish cloth which is unused. [s]I'm looking for £1350 which includes fully insured postage to mainland UK[/s]. I'm now going to offer this for £1200 plus postage, no offers and no trades. Bank transfer or cash on collection preferred as I don't want any Paypal charges at this price. This is still available for trade but the trade value is £1300 You're not going to find a Rickenbacker in better condition than this one - its in better condition than some 'new' shop basses I've seen. Now for the porn:
