  1. Those little MB GKs have a unique baked in sound , some absolutely love them , some not so much. For their size they do sport a surprising slam. I loved a little MB200 at low volume as a practice head at home.
  2. The tone stack in my amp is a four band , with near surgical control , and when I bypass that my preamp has a three band eq with a fairly broad sweep. Now that is much faster to dial in…
  3. There’s a lot to be said for Class D heads , but the modern hifi clean is not the same as the old tube warmth. Two entirely different things , despite the creation of hybrids with tube preamps.
  4. I use the effect return to bypass the tone stack and front end of the amp , I run a multi tube pre so l get a warm tube sound with some serious slam behind it. Downtuning a Pbass that far might cancel that though.
  5. The top ten mindset reminds me of the uneatable pursued by the unspeakable.
  6. Wear a glove on your plucking hand.
  7. Recently imported a preamp from the US , and the exchange was brutal , and I was dinged for taxes by UPS. It arrived faster than some things that have come from Ontario. Wound up being considerably more than the initial purchase price indicated. There’s a lot to be said for buying locally.
  8. Welcome Oliver. Lovely collection!
  9. I have several guitarist friends that use the real tube driven Fender spring reverb. They have no interest in little pedals for that. I picked up a Fender TreVerb pedal after buying a Squier VI. It’s perfectly fine for my limited needs. And there’s several reverbs in the Darkglass Suite for my Exponent if I want to go there. The reissue spring reverbs often fetch around $1500 , vintage fetch double that. So $50 was a heck of a deal. It sold quickly , somebody got lucky.
  10. I know what they generally go for. I tried to tip off a good friend , but he passed. It’s only an hour and a half away. I don’t buy stuff to flip and mostly just buy what I might have a need for. Heck of a deal though …
  11. I always loved the classic Fender folded bridge. So simple , and easy to adjust. Leo had a knack for making things that were easy to adjust , unlike some other manufacturers. They were also simple and cheap to make. Genius. And yet recently took a metal adjustable bridge off a Danelectro and replaced it with a popsicle stick. The wooden Dano bridge sounds better , and there is a sweet spot for it! Also went the other way and replaced several 3point style bridges with Hipshots. I’ve been suffering some bridge madness.
  12. A Fender Reverb tank appeared in kijiji here for $50 yesterday!
  13. Taken about two minutes ago , flopped on the couch , about to go shovel the driveway.
  14. Some generally say it sounds good , now I’m usually just in mid sized rooms and only vocals are in the PA so my rig has to fill the room. But we are not overly loud. The stage sound is the room mix. I buy amps for my enjoyment , they do not all sound the same , and various cabs will sound different as well. I recently added a tube preamp to my gigging rig and have been bypassing the tone stack. And just adding the pre has completely changed my sound. If I’m happy with the stage sound I will play better. Quite a few have been asking about the pre , but yes , mostly musicians. There’s usually a good number of players in the room. But I buy stuff for me.
  15. Mine has a slight droop , but it’s tolerable. My Jr is perfectly balanced.
  16. I love the dots and satin finish! Recently put a Hipshot on mine. Mine has blocks and a gloss , but I prefer the dots and satin.
  17. I spent many , many years with just one old Pbass. I thought it was all I’d need. I was wrong. I’m an old geezer at this point , and enjoy stuff. I still gig every week. Herself doesn’t mind me buying gear. And I try and keep a little cash on hand for a musical emergency. I’ve found some remarkable deals on the local online buy&sell. I watch it like a hawk. I could have flipped them and turned a quick profit. But I really buy things to enjoy them.
  18. I’ve gone small , modern , modular for gigs. But recently added a nice little boutique preamp to get that old school warm tubey thump. So now I can go old school or hifi. I have mini rigs for quiet home practice , and rehearsal rigs. Headphone rig too. And backups … Why settle for one amp when there’s so many alternatives out there?
  19. Rather than one rig for everything I think everybody needs six or seven amps. It’s fun to explore the differences. They are not all the same.
  20. I’ve never subscribed to Scott’s bass lessons , but I do appreciate what he’s trying to teach and the way he breaks it down. And he stresses , this is the chord , and these are the notes to play over it , and around it. And I gotta say he’s built up a pretty good business. I celebrate that. He’s responsible for a lot of players learning what to play. And it seems the more you play , the more there is to learn.
  21. Kijiji is our most popular local online Buy&Sell , and I tend to watch it like a hawk. I’ve snagged some serious deals , and missed a couple too. Last week this popped up , and was up for a day before it sold.(I thought it would be gone in twenty minutes) A friend picked it up and he’ll give it a good home. Somebody had bought a later 70’s 4001 carcass and fitted it out. The paint job is about 30 years old. But it sold for $1000 Cdn! That’s a real Ric toaster. I haven’t seen one go that cheaply for some years.
  22. That mapleglo 4003s is a beauty! (and I would love to put a cover on my 4001) I immediately got used to the cover on my 4000.
  23. I believe the low end thunder is when the choke is off. The choke puts various resistors in that cut back specific frequencies.
