  1. I’m sure that is the manufacturer’s showroom.
  2. A friend has an old bat wing Harmony V22. They were not expensive basses back in the day , but it seems they are now. With old flats they do have a wonderful deep woody old school thump. And I’d love to find one. It’s funny , right up until the reissues came out they were not that expensive , but prices rose quickly one the reissues became available.
  3. … those certainly are obscure , kool and trashy!
  4. My old 72 Pbass with the thumb mark. It’s pretty deep.
  5. I use the fleshy part of the thumb to pluck the string , a lot. And float the thumb when playing fingerstyle.
  6. I have two larger Class D heads , a Bergantino Forte, which is clean and transparent , and a Genz Benz Streamliner 900 . 900 watts with a three tube preamp. The tubes give things a nice warmth , and you can dial in some serious gain , or run it fairly clean . It’s a versatile amp. It can get very warm and dark. Two very different amps.
  7. A Unicorn popped up here on kijiji a couple of years ago , I was going to get it , then decided not to get it , then decided to go for it , and it was gone. I mentioned that I missed it to a friend , and he told me he just got it home. Several weeks later something else came up for him and I wound up with the Unicorn. Funny how things go around. I quite like it. And just because things always go around again. About a year later I spotted a Riverhead Jupiter on kijiji , immediately called my buddy , and he grabbed it. So here’s the Unicorn , it’s the model with the bridge humbucker. The model is RUB 1095 .The bass in not heavy , is well balanced , and despite the Black Beauties on it , sounds pretty good. The neck feels like home. Plays like a dream. I quite like it. I wish I had the original leather bag for it. They are très funky. It does fit perfectly in a LP guitar case.
  8. Although the Jr is still on the Gibson website , recently people have been told it is no longer in production when trying to order one. Discontinued.
  9. Whenever I’d get a new bass I’d gig it until it paid for itself , and then go back to the old reliable.
  10. I have twenty something , and it’s been over a year since I bought one , there’s one I might sell. I have a nice selection at this point , but there’s always room for another. No gas at all right now. I have picked up several amps in the last year.
  11. I mostly gig with a Dano because of the way it sits in a stage mix , but the Jr is the first one I pick up at home. And is easily my favourite one to play.
  12. I bought a Dano Longhorn when they first reissued , and did not care for the short scale , but after playing it for a while it became comfy , and then I came to prefer it. I still have a bunch of classic basses I really don’t play much anymore.
  13. I’ve been watching , and waiting , and hoping to find a used one. Might eventually wind up ordering a new one from Jule. But I’ve got a great gig rig , and nice home practice rigs now. It’s not something I need, but it’s something I’d love to have.

    Plexi fakes

Those vintage Ampegs fetch silly prices these days. And the later small runs of reissues are too. The Grecos are hard to find, so a MIC copy delivered for $400 with no fuss is tempting. I’ve played the originals. I’ve hit the pause button for now , but the temptation remains. A friend just ordered one , I’m looking forward to hearing his experience and review.
  15. If you drop the nose of the Gibson 3point bridge too much then the back ferrules can lift.
  16. Nice score! I have the Unicorn that was based on that , but headless.

    Plexi fakes

Just discovered it is not a shortscale , unfortunately a game changer for me.

    Plexi fakes

Looking at plexi Dan Armstrong fakes for fun today, it seems I can get one delivered to my door for under four hundred. The originals fetch serious prices , and certainly had their issues. I’m tempted , but have yet to order one. Some reviews say they’re wretched , others were pleasantly surprised to find a bass they said “wasn’t bad at all”. So there’s some luck involved. This would not be a primary bass , simply something fun and funky.
  19. You look happy! Congratulations , gorgeous bass!
  20. Check out that little Gibson Jr bass. It works like a Pbass.

    Show us your rig!

At a rehearsal last week , I usually lug my ancient GK MB150, noticed it wasn’t up to snuff. Volume dropped and it was sounding distorted. I once blew the amp up and loved it enough to get the power module replaced. At the time GK were moving their manufacturing , it took about a year to get the part. I have a friend that knows these well , and it’s off for repair. Should return like a brand new amp.
  22. You don’t need no girlie contours.
  23. They truly are gorgeous things.
  24. I went looking in the uk and couldn’t find a thing. Thomann did have some Gibson guitar pickup covers online so they might be able to order some , might be faster to just buy on on eBay though…
