1. I've a couple of dep gigs coming up that include fuel costs as well as the wage - is there a standard £ per mile cost for this kind of thing ? I thought the MU had a rate but can't find it anywhere. Thanks, Phil
 2. i gave up trying to turn pages due to never being able to do it quickly enough without missing notes - i now tape all the pages together and have a stand with extender arms that is good for scores of up to 6 pages - any more than that I would just lay it on the floor !! :-)
 3. More big band fun & games this Fri in Camden - see here: http://www.facebook....27992353940510/ Also on the bill is this chap playing (with a drummer) for the launch of his solo bass album: CLAUDIO SIGNORILE feat. RHA STRANGES Flying in from Italy especially to perform his new album ‘A Song 4 Each Day’ is phenomenal bassist Claudio Signorile. After performing as the finalist in several international bass competitions, including Bass Master in Zagreb and EuroBassday in Verona, and winning the 2011 Tour Music Fest in Rome, he is here to perform his debut album for us in London, with Rha Stranges on drums. A one-off, not to be missed. http://www.facebook....orileSoloArtist # and before all that is the excellent Sena Quartet - should be a good night !! Phil
 4.
Hey guys So after getting that PDF to work I set to work trying to get the 1st section of this tune down. Here's a decent take I did, some of the runs are still a little bit sloppy due to rearranging them for 5-string fingering. It's great to get my teeth into something exciting again and I'll hopefully get the whole tune finished in a few weeks.
good job !! that last long descending run is the killer... :-)
 5.
Tab Staff Notation
lol, some nice visual analogies there !!! :-)
 6. Amazing player - I've played Noy Yet with a big band a couple of times and it's a killer - chart attached for anyone feeling brave !! :-)

 12.
I use this app & it handles pdf's great. http://www.forscoreapp.com/ You can also get a foot pedal to change pages.
i do the same, and also use the http://www.irealb.com/ app - you can also get holders for the ipad that attach to mic stand bases, although i just use a normal music stand.
 13. Big band shenanigans this Sunday afternoon ! (even though they've messed up the listings on the Bull's Head website and we're not listed) 1pm kick off http://www.facebook....09888392412936/ http://soundcloud.co...-jazz-orchestra http://www.myspace.c...-Orchestra/Mojo
 14.
I have been to loads of these over the years and noone is as bad as some of the people I have heard. I am talking 'can barely get a note out of a trumpet','can't play im time with other people', 'can't count 4 to a bar', lousy intonation' kind of bad. If you are intimidated, it is best to go along without your gear and watch. Then you can judge whether you are up for it. A lot of jam sessions are as much a 'have a go' opportunity and, to be blunt, very few hard core pros go so you have no worries about being humiliated. For me, rule number one if you are running a jazz jam is to be approachable and non-judgemental. Anyone who looks down on a person because they are a poor musician is a bit of a dick. I knwo guys who can't play anote but they run businesses, are solicitors, doctors etc. You can gain a lot form a person other than reflected muso glory.
+1000 thisnameistaken - if you're anywhere near north London I do a couple of jams which are very laid back, low key, everyone welcome type afairs that you'd be welcome to come and play at if you wanted to havea go...
 15. when i went to 6 from 4 the main thing i had to do was alter my right hand technique to dampen the B & E strings with my ring & little finger resting on them when I was playing the strings above them - other players use their thumb as a floating damper to get the same effect, so whatever works for you ! As Faithless says, learn the notes on your 2 new strings, as others say, practise lots to get used to it, apart from that just have lots of fun with chords & extra harmonics and the other possibilities it opens up - and then remember not to use most of them on a gig unless it's appropriate !! :-)
 16.
I've used MattSnowball many times, both for bass gear and PA bits, and can wholeheartedly endorse them. Phil is great to deal with (nice surprise to find you on here Phil!) In fact if you look closely at my avatar pic you'll see an Ampeg 1x18 that I hired to beef up my 4x10HLF and SVT4 rig a couple of years back. Nick
Thanks Nick ! Many apologies but I can't place you - which band do you hire with ???
Anything to do with Eric Snowball....???
Yep, Matt is Eric's son :-)
 17. no problem, if you want a quote just email me what you want and the dates at [email protected] and I'll do you a basschat discount... :-)
