1. +1 caught this last night, very interesting and well worth a watch on iplayer
2. Just a heads up for this one for anyone interested, at the 606 this Sunday afternoon as part of the LJF. http://www.londonjaz...cottle-big-band Saw them there last year and it was a great gig !
3. outstanding - thanks for posting !! ps. Laurence Cottle Big Band playing at 606 next month as part of the Jazz Festival
4. pm me your email addresses and i can send a couple... there's also quite a lot of free cello scores online if you have a look around which are good for practise...
5. Sounds good but unfortunately I don't think I have enough free time to commit, I couldn't do two rehearsals a week - good luck with finding someone !
6. Hi there Where & when do you rehearse and how frequently would you be looking to rehearse/gig ? Phil
7. I think I have a pdf for the bass pad for the Rocky Horror Picture Show somewhere if this is any good ?
8. thanks Mike, unfortunately no money involved but we're sorted now anyway - thanks for the reply anyway.
9. Hi all I didn't put this in the musicians wanted section as it's just a last minute one-off for a rehearsal, but if anyone knows a drummer who could dep for a jazz big band rehearsal tonight in kings cross then please send them my way - there's a kit provided. Thanks ! Phil
10. http://www.facebook.com/events/512311428795994/ Mo jazz orchestra back at the Vortex in Dalston for more Sunday afternoon big band fun & games - only £4.50 on the door !
11. Soundcrash have an account here where i work (backline hire) - speak to Rik and he should be able to hire you something in.
12. SOLD !!! Protection Racket gig bag for sale, located in north London. It's this one: not the deluxe version but it's a great gig bag anyway, very sturdy and safe & secure with a huge front pocket - they retail at £60 so this one is going for £40 ono - it's in perfect condition. Thanks, Phil
13. Mel just bought my Markbass cab, she's an absolute pleasure to deal with, very trustworthy and great communication - recommended !!
14.
Am I the only one who as developed the skill of continuing to play with my left hand hammering notes whilst my right hand turns the page?
I've tried this and just can't get it to work smoothly enough - most of my charts are walking 4 in a bar lines and unless the tempo is really slow I find I just don't have time to flip a page and not drop a note/beat or two ! And some of them have a DC or coda that jumps back/forward 3-4 pages, so taping together works best for me - until i can transfer everything to the ipad and get the bluetooth page turner that is... :-)
15. there's 3 on the jazz gig I'm doing tonight !! I letting one of the acts (Claudio Signorile) use my rig - I was politely asked in advance, he's flying in from Italy so can't bring his own, and is doing a solo bass (with drums) set so I'm confident it won't get abused and I'll be on hand anyway. I'm normally not fussed about sharing my rig as long as people appreciate it - I play a couple of jam sessions each week so I have to be really !! :-)
16.
Again - sorry I wasted your time posting this annoying piece of music that you don't like and have spent so long considering and being distracted by... I really won't bother again.
please, please do bother, for the sake of those of us who really appreciate & enjoy this kind of thing - for me the Ronnies gig was probably the best show I've ever seen, I was literally jumping out of my seat watching that band, they were incredible ! Just remember, you can't please all the people all the time... ;-)
17. ps. I once did a session at Fountain Studios in the house band for a pilot episode of a new lottery type show - featuring Keith Chegwin !! :-)
18.
The rest of the tunes are 'in the bag' apparently - so hang in there I think they will emerge soon - hopefully!
hurrah !! :-)
There also exists a full on DVD-A 5.1 version which is just stunning.
would love to get me a copy of that !!! it's not planned for release is it ??
19. I've mentioned this quickly in the gigs section, but thought it worthy of a seperate thread as some people may have missed it and be interested: He's playing the same venue in Camden as I am on Friday night, and it should be an interesting gig - just him & a drummer: CLAUDIO SIGNORILE feat. RHA STRANGES Flying in from Italy especially to perform his new album ‘A Song 4 Each Day’ is phenomenal bassist Claudio Signorile. After performing as the finalist in several international bass competitions, including Bass Master in Zagreb and EuroBassday in Verona, and winning the 2011 Tour Music Fest in Rome, he is here to perform his debut album for us in London, with Rha Stranges on drums. A one-off, not to be missed. 20. thanks for the replies all - i just wanted to check as last time I was in this situation the band leader thought £20 was enough for a 250 mile round trip !!
21. awesome, thanks for posting this - saw it at Ronnies last year and was blown away - is the rest of the recording up on youtube ?
