    Hi, thanks for the enquiry - here's the info from the ad which should answer almost all of your questions: [b] Overwater Progress III Deluxe 35" scale fretless 6-string (Pre-Owned)[/b] Overwater 6 string fretless Progress III deluxe, custom built in February 2009. Brazilian Cocobolo top with matching headstock. Tone wood is a European Walnut with a maple veneer separating the two. Ebony fretboard with maple lines, and a 5-piece maple/walnut through-neck. Full over top on the Cocobolo which adds to the sustain. Locking jack AND xlr output for extended connectivity options. It has a stunning pre-amp with plenty of headroom with bass, mid and treble boost/cut knobs, pick-up blend and output volume with a push/pull bright switch. It’s a custom John East made for Overwater. Bass usually set at 14hz, mid at 250hz +/-10db and high at 3khz +/- 12db. There’s also a pull switch which adds attack at 5khz. The clarity on the lower notes is incredible, and must be heard to be fully realised. Pickups are custom made for OW. They are dual coil with bar pole piece as one long strip of steel, with the rear pickup having slightly more output. Since being custom made in ‘09, the owner has replaced the bridge with a fully adjustable Schaller so that the string spacing can be changed – apart from that and straplocks it is as it left Chris May’s hands. Although it weighs in at over 11.5 lbs it’s one of those basses that balances really well on a strap and doesn’t feel as heavy when playing. A new one would cost around £3000, so this represents very good value for such a lovely hand-crafted instrument. Gator hardcase. the only thing i don't know is about the markers - maybe drop the guys ar bass gear a line, they will be able to tell you straight away. Thanks, Phil

    We have a Jim Dunlop one here at work that I'm going to try on a rehearsal tomorrow I think...I had a look at the Sansamp DI and it looks great but probably a bit overkill for my needs. Thanks for all the replies and advice !

    @SteveK no, not theatre - I would be using it for playing in a big band, where there's a few sections that are very, very quiet and then it gets really loud... :-) plus the problems I mentioned before of trying to adjust vol on the bass while constantly playing/reading/watching my intonation !! Other gigs I can manage volume levels with how I play but for this gig I'm considering it. @Siddx would a stomp box just give a low & high level that you switch between ?

    thanks again, interesting stuff. I'm actually bit miffed (for some reason) to think I need to use one as I would like to be able to do it just with touch, but I'm finding I just don't have the dynamic range to go from pp to ff by fingers alone ! I dislike playing so softly I'm barely touching the strings as I lose a bit in tone and feel, if that makes sense...I can see how it would be useful for the kind of effects that Siddx mentions but I was just looking into using one for adjusting volume on the fly.

    Hi basschatters Any of you regularly use a volume pedal ? I'm finding that some of the stuff I play requires slightly more dynamic scope than I can get with just my fingers, and I have trouble adjusting the vol on the bass in a subtle manner whilst playing/reading - I usually cock it up and turn myself up too loud, miss a few notes then lose my place on the score...! :-) Just wondered if anyone had experience of using a pedal - maybe the guys who do pit work ?     +1 on the Zoom - I've had the H2 for a couple of years now and use it constantly for recording gigs & rehearsals. Suprisingly good quality, especially if you're in a decent sounding room and really easy to use, as per the post above !
