  1. The size of my gut dictates the length of my strap. Any shorter and my basses would be unplayable.
  2. Even the middle section of Tom Sawyer, I'm forever trying to play one string higher than exists and play notes off the fretboard.
  3. We only have two confirmed gigs so far this year, one almost confirmed, and some vague talk about another couple. I'm still grafting to try and get more but nobody else in the band seems to particularly care if we don't get any more.
  4. This also works in Outlook for Android
  5. I don't know about texts but I've recently had legitimate emails from FB with recovery codes, indicating that someone has tried to access my account, but the fact that I have multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled means they haven't been able to.
  6. Given the Elf has gone back to PMT – and presumably Trace/Peavey – for repairs, this statement is a touch hasty in hindsight
  7. I'm getting this at the moment
  8. I've had this with Club Foot, where the original bassine was recorded by the guitarist, and the live version of the bass solo is very different to what's on the recorded version.
  9. I've heard lots of tales of companies holding their Christmas parties in January, often just because of lack of availability of venues (i.e. everyone argued about who was going to organise it long enough to not be able to book anywhere before Christmas), but a Wednesday definitely seems like an odd one even though the reasons are sound.
  10. Blimey. I was in the Leeds store today and all seemed pretty well, albeit their internet was down.
  11. I've never had a problem with my wedding ring, I guess I just instinctively keep that part of my finger out of the way.
  12. Indeed, and that's why I usually don't object to them too strongly.
  13. A jack of all trades is a master of none though. That's the saying...
  14. I don't mind their vocals, but I've never thought any of them were particularly strong singers. They've gotten a bit better over the years, but it's all still a bit bland.
  15. I recalled a couple of occasions previously when using the Sire that things had mysteriously cut out (but nowhere near as badly as Sunday with the P though), so to be thorough I took the pickguard off the P and gave all the wires a good tug to make sure the connections were still sound, and they are. So I think it's the Elf that's actually the problem. So it's going back to PMT tomorrow for testing and repair/replacement. Just have to use the ABM for the time being I suppose - oh no, what a shame, etc.
  16. Does the power socket on anyone else's Elf move this much? It's now one of two suspects in my glitchy hell from last night and wanted to see if this was ommon and/or something to worry about.
  17. Sorry, I completely misunderstood what was going on it seems.
  18. A few places over this way I suspect use it to get out of paying full whack band fees, where we'd have to hope the tips would make up for accepting below-par payment from the venue. We aren't keen on this approach.
  19. I meant the London fireworks, sorry 🤭
  20. Who paid for it though?
  21. As in the whole pub was empty or just the bit you were playing in? Either way that's really sad.
  22. Well, I needed it.
  23. Gave up on ol' Jools and enjoyed the end of Rick Astley. Now watching Elton at Glastonbury and admiring the bassist's gear - is that an SWR rig he's using?
  24. Last gig of the year was beset by technical issues. To start with our singist had forgotten to charge the batteries for his wireless mic, so that took a bit of time to resolve, after which it was my turn. After some random cut outs during our first set, it was unfortunate that the first song of our second was A Town Called Malice. In an effort to find what was causing the – frankly mortifying – breaks, I tried changing over the cables and bypassing my pedalboard entirely, but it was only swapping basses that seemed to solve the issue, and although I think I detected one or two glitches after that it could have just been my imagination. Thankfully the crowd took it in good spirits and our singist kept that mood light as I abandoned the P-bass and dashed across the bar to fetch the Sire. I managed to get through the rest of the gig without incident, apart from forgetting my coat in the rush to get home for midnight. It's a good thing I have next week off work as I need to do a deep dive into what the frick frack snick snack is going on with my gear. I'm hoping it's not an issue with the electronics in the Squier as I can't really afford to replace them at the moment. I'm also well aware of the irony of this happening after I'd started a thread about bringing spare basses to gigs...
  25. EEP! Make sure your drummist wears a mask just in case if you can.
