1. I've just purchased a Steinberger Synapse 5 string bass ( bad back etc). The bass is great but was bought with a quite soft gig bag. After lots of tinternet searching with no joy, has anybody got info or ideas as to where I could track down a hardshell case for said bass. Any help would be Fab, and very appreciated. Ta very glad Dale (BIGd)
2. Happy Christmas everybody, hope you have a great time with loved ones and friends. Eat to much, drink to much and have a wonderful time. Your good health Ta very glad, Dale & Karen (Mr&Mrs BIGd1)
3. Just received the Steinberger Synapse 5 Fretless I bought from Chaypup. Great comms and very prompt delivery of my new bass. Bass looks like it's not been played!! Ta very glad Dale (BIGd1)
4. You might get more interest if you post pictures of what you have for sale, not stock pictures from manufactures web sites. Just sayin...........
5. what's the future like for bass has it all been done? if you are a musician, this is just a stupid question. Music can never be done. If this is a real question, you need to put the bass down and never play it again. Perhaps take up knitting, because you will never make a musician. I mean WHAT!!
6. As I have now put a lot more thought into the overall sound we are getting, I think my first saying I wanted to beef up a thin sound wasn't quite right. It was more making up for the missing guitar chordal type parts (bit difficult to explain what I was after really). I have tried some of the ideas above and seem to have got a lot closer to what I'm after. I think when you are trying to describe the sound you have in your head, it becomes really difficult. Thanks for all the solutions offered, this is still a work in progress, so watch his space for possible updates. Ta very glad

I had a Thunder 1a I'm not saying it was rubbish I just don't think they are as good as people seem to think.
8. What is it with these bases? I remember these when they first came out, in fact I bought one. They were great for the money at the time, but by today's standards, they are not that great. Whenever I have seen one for sale in the last few years, people seem to hold them up as a bass to have. They really was never that good.......................... or is it me
9. I've played a G&L ASAT for about 10yrs, don't know how they have a reputation for neck dive. Mine is well balanced, never had a problem with it at all. Yes they are a fantastic bass, very versatile sound wise with the switching system and on-board pre amp.
10. Thanks all, filling things out by not playing the same as when vocals are in is something I do. I just think it goes from a full band sound to a bit of a thin sound of just bass and drums. I've tried a tube screamer but thought it to be a bit to toppie. I do like the idea of octave type things, that might be it. I will try it and get back. Big part of the problem is, I have only recently started using and pedals, normal for me is plug in the amp and go. So I don't want to lose the sound of the bass in a multitude of fx.
11. I play in a late 60s early 70s rock, made up of drums, 1 guitarist, vocals and me driving the low side. All sounds great till we have guitar solos, then it sounds a little thin. What would be a good distortion, overdrive etc pedal to just fatten things up a little. Gear I'm using 73 Richenbacker 4001 Newish American Jazz G&L Asat I only use one of the above for rehearsals/gigs but I do like to use all of them in rotation. MarkBass Little Mark II 1x12 combo with 1x12 extension cab MXR fazor ToneBug Overdrive Compressor I don't want a nnnaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhh type drive sound, it might not be drive that will do what I'm looking for. Sorry if this sounds a little Doh! but I am really looking for ideas, rather than spending lots of money trying to find the above. any help would be fabber than a fab thing on a fab day out. Ta very glad Dale (BIGd 1)
12. Good to know, it's not just me thinks this way then.
13. In the for sale section, it seems that a great deal of adds are for RARE equipment. That would be great and interesting if these RARE items are indeed RARE. I thought RARE was something possibly only available to the few, or so old only a few were still around. If you look in the For Sale section you see adds for Fender, Ibanez, Overwater, Yamaha etc being classed as a RARE item, these makes flood the market when made, they are in most cases not RARE. I think RARE is getting mistaken for old or just used. Just because your item is old does not make it RARE!! I'm well used, and getting old but what makes me RARE is I'm the only one of me.
14. I have a Fender Jazz, G&L Astat and Rickenbacker 4001 all with La Bella flats on, never use owt else wonderful full and when required growl of a sound. Ta very glad
15. We are doing a job, we are employed by the venue to provide music for a set time. Would you accept not being paid from any other employment, or even some money and free whatever? I find this quite insulting as a musician, I know it happens. People seem to be under the impression it doesn't cost any thing do what we do. I agree with what most have said NYE is the biggest earner of the year for the venue, if they want inexpensive entertainment wish them luck with the search. It's not unreasonable to expect pay for a nights work.
16. You have a PM Ta very glad BIGd
17. I'd be up for a Manchester or surrounding area Bash, just need the date etc.
18. Totally agree 100%
I always think that, in these circumstances, they shoudl look for someone radically different to the original to avoid compaisons.
19. Seems a little odd that YES have gone for Billy Sherwood for new bass player. I was unaware Billy is a bassist, I thought he is a guitarist, a great guitarist at that. Bass is not just a guitar with less strings, as we all know plus Chris Squire was a testament to that . If YES are to carry on, and find a replacement for Chris, they will need a quality bass player. I hope they don't go down the route of trying to find a player who will try to play "like Squire" as I feel this would be a big mistake. This could be a new chapter for YES, but I feel they need to choose wisely. Ta very glad BIGd massive YES fan since the 70s.
20. I feel that it is almost impossible for somebody able bodied to sort this. The ideas that have been offered are great but, everyone is different. I use a wheelchair, but use a bar stool to lean against on stage. The point about taking the sides of the chair, yes you can do this with some wheelchairs, but this depends on the person using the wheelchair, if upper body strength is not good for example this wouldn't work as removing the sides might make them very unstable and not able to hold there body up. Unfortunately it's not, as it wouldn't be for anybody that straight forward. The only way to address this problem would be to take the person with you on a bass hunt. Possibly somewhere like a PMT who would have a few basses of different shapes for them to try. Weight may or may not be a problem for them to play. Good luck with the hunt.
21. I've been wireless since Dec last year (big red guy brought mine) I love it, although I do always have a lead with me as back up. Obviously the big bonus is freedom of movement, as well as never standing on your own cable any more.
22. I feel YES music is the thing I have grown up with, in particular Chris Squires bass playing. Chris is the main reason I play bass today. From the first time I listened to Fragile on the day of it's release, I wanted to play like Chris. a massive influence on so many of us low enders. Thoughts and love to his family, 67 is far to young for anybody to be taken from this world, RIP Chris Squire.
23. My Mum used to say she would cut my hair to my skin in my sleep if I didn't get it cut. These days no hair on my head to cut. Maybe I should have listened to my Mum........ Only thing I would say is never, ever, never eVER put your hair in a pony tail, just don't do it you will look like a NOB!!!
