1.
aha so you were up on galley hill then, we were at the pier, sounded awsome looked great well worth the wait in the wind cheers stef
Yes Galley Hill, I wish I'd gone to the pier but my 2 lads had said they were going up there on their bikes so I met up with them & yes the wind on t'hill was 'kin freezin - flaming June! Best view & sound we got was as it came in low & slow down the Crowhurst valley before doing a left for Hastings
2. Matt ordered a P-bass kit for that 'Old School Tone' - great comm's, instant payment & another satisfied customer, just the way it should be, a real pleasure to deal with him, top bloke. Cheerz, John
3. From my phone camera & yes I remember my Uncle used to take me to Farnborough when I was 11> 1962> lots of noisy fast low fo's Here's one I borrowed
4. I'm just off to see the Vulcan A LEGENDARY Vulcan bomber will fly over the skies of Hastings next month in what is believed to be the first time the world famous aircraft has visited the town. The iconic jet will blast out its trademark deafening engine noise across the town in a special display on Saturday June 15. Now the only flying Vulcan left in the world, the XH558 is expected to arrive over our skies at 3.40pm for the start of a 15 minute display.
5. I went through a phase of Rotosound Nexus then Fender Black Tapewound, which were both like roundwounds with black plastic sprayed on! Didn't get on with them so went for the full monty - GHS Black Nylon Tapewound, beautiful currently using them on 1 fretted & 1 fretless Jazz.
6.
Is that unclehorrid.co.uk? Congratulations of scoring one, need pics please!
All in good time still working on it
7. Strangely - they do turn up from time to time in Uncle Horrid's garage I just recently scored a Jazz gold anodised plate from him - rare as a rare thing with bells & knobs on Mines going on an faded Olympic White, rosewood board fretless. You never know he might have a Jazz 'onesie' plate somewhere Best of luck.
8. Pet shops sell bags of it - don't they?
9. 'Cos it's got 2 pick ups = more magnets & they're heavy Oh Carol!
10. I had a Electro Acoustic which had kept me ticking over for many years but when my partner died I decided to start playing more again. The Tanglewood got boring & I hankered after a Fender Precision, giving myself a budget of about £800 to include a practice amp better than my Peavey with 8" speaker. I started searching for 2nd hand Fender P's & found BC! Then I got gas - saw a Skjold Exotic Custom being sold here & couldn't resist. The Skjold has faily recently moved on & now I have 4 Fender Precisions, 3 Fender Jazzes, (1 of is fretless) & 'a few others in the house' . Still getting GAS but not so bad as it used to be
11. I'd rather have Betsy any day
12. My pleasure to make a kit for Alex to upgrade his Yamaha, excellent comms, instant payment, real good guy to deal with. Cheerz, John
13. Second verse same as the first 2 kits in a week must be a record . Again spot on comms & instant payment, another all good transaction. Great guy to deal with Cheerz, John
14. I made a P-bass wiring kit for Leth, excellent to deal with, all good communications & instant payment, no problems in recommending him. Cheerz, John
15. I do enjoy these 'mostly' BBC4 band docu's, there's always so much I/we never knew about going on at the time, I/we just turned on tuned in & enjoyed the music We say every time though - that was all part of an era in music - that will never be repeated or bettered.
16. Is that real? Seriously
17.
i think we may have a winner already....ive actually heard this and never picked up on it!!!!
18. Fretless Precision Bass ?
19.
I knew a couple of guys who worked for Cable & Wireless in Jeddah. When were you in Saudi?
On & off in the mid to late 80's, working with C&W, Egerton Construction, Nokia & Fujikura on their Cable laying projects throughout the area. TBH spent as little time as possible actually in Saudi, much preferred the Abu Dhabi & Dubai lifestyle Bahrain was maybe best of all, Qatar & Kuwait not so much I know how much it's all changed in the last 30 years I wouldn't recognise any of it. Best wishes, John
20. Hi & welcome, I've worked out your way, (a few years back), from Oman to Saudi, through all the Emirates, telecom projects with Cable & Wireless. Rather be home these days Cheerz, John
21. Hey Yolanda - yeah like already said - you don't need a big introduction here, I reckon you're a bit late to the party but very very welcome. Always good to see a player of your calibre on side there's not many about (ducks for cover) Have fun, John
22.
Ok, the set arrived today! I put them on with HUGE anticipation. Once the truss rod and saddles were adjusted (especially the A string) off I went for a wonder on the Jazz Bass. The feel was an instant hit and couldn't believe the quality of the tone, quite unlike the other Flats I had been using and all for the better. The A string being so thin was a big concern for me, initially the balance wasn't quite suited to my style but I switched on the compressor (which is always on the go anyway) and hey, problem solved! Perhaps it was a placibo, but the bass responses of the E and A balanced better after. I'm guessing the lighter A string is to match it better to the D and G because I was really impressed with that. I'm super pleased with the strings.Big thanks to KiOgon, you're post was on my wavelength and I agree too about our P Bass needs. The other posts were great too, nice to hear what other players are up to and thinking.
Glad you're happy with, I don't find the balance (size or sound or tension or feel) a problem on my AV '62 Jazz. I have a new set ready for my 60's fretless Jazz I'm working on at the mo, looking forward to that I think the last time I bought TI's I got a few sets from a USA dealer who was doing a good deal on them, nowhere near the price they are now
23. You've answered your own question, the proper job would be to fill with dowel & re-machine. Cheerz, John
24. Another 'keeper' bites the dust My pockets ain't deep enough GLWTS Nick
25.
The slugs have become part of the circuit?? (edited 'magnets'!!)
The way I see it is 'some' of the windings must be in contact with the magnets, not normal surely? How else could I get a few Ohms (16/23) reading?
