1.
They look like the Berg ones from the pics.
They are well made from a nice thick materal. Perhaps not quite as good as the Bergs in my opinion, but not off by much. Should last years...
2. Love these cabs. That's a good price too.
3. Bargainalicous deal for a terrific amp!
4. Ronnie Lane is one of my bass playing heroes (see my avatar). Not the greatest technical player in the world, but very melodic and creative. Plus I love his solo stuff after he quit Faces - stuck two fingers up to the industry and said "I'll do it my way, thanks all the same".
5. People have been swapping necks on Ps and Js for decades. I would imagine it'd be fine, but probably best to take measurements of both before you splash the cash.
6. So, last night's gig was in a converted church. I'd played there before, so I knew it could be a difficult room, and I was a bit worried that the TKS wouldn't sound that good in there. I am pleased to say I was very wrong . A little bass and mid cut and we were away with a terrific sound, full but not boomy at all. Everyone in both my bands love this cab.
7.
No attenuator for the 6. Personally I think the balance between the drivers really works well and cutting the 6 would adversely effect the tone.
This. As I've said before, the 6" driver in these cabs is their secret weapon
8.
Do you have experience of Fender necks? is this a P-Bass club or a skinny J-Bass neck?
It's a slim "C" so definitely not a typical P bass neck profile. Really comfortable.
9.
Gareth if you get a suitable power supply I'll solder a plug on for you to the correct polarity.
Nice one Dave. This is what I love about Basschat
10. Looks like an option, thanks, but those interchangeable heads look a bit suspect?
11. Can anyone recommend a good retail outlet where I might purchase one of the above?
12. Sorry Chris, I missed that fact!
13. I think Beedster's looking for one of these.
14. I wonder if a Headway EDB-2 might do the job?
15. The Demeter is a naturally clean and bright amp, but it's just the really high frequencies on the BSX that are the problem (my electrics are fine). If I cut the treble on the onboard EQ it loses body from the overall sound, rather than the sheen on top, which stays there and just makes finger noise over the strings sound scratchy.
16. Okay, it's a Demeter VTBPM800D into a TKS1156. I often use a Radial Bigshot i/o, as I switch between the BSX and an electric bass a lot, but nothing else gets in the way.
17. So, I love my Allegro, I really do, but I find that the ultra high top end is impossible to EQ out. The bass is stock, with a piezo bridge and an active 3 band Bartolini system installed, but if I cut the treble on the bass it still doesn't get the really high stuff, which is too nasty and brittle to my ears. Cutting treble EQ on my amp also doesn't get rid either, so what gives? Is it the piezo, and I just have to live with it? Any ideas, Team Basschat? Cheers Gareth
18. Just keep a diary of rehearsals and gigs. In this age of smartphones, tablets etc., it's easy enough to do. If you have family, a calendar at home may help keep track as well, to avoid double-booking gigs with family events. I also always tell the bands that I'm in that they aren't my only gig. This has always worked well for me, but I would imagine that constant unavailability for one band could lead to being sacked, so try and make yourself equally available for gigs and rehearsals. Just my thoughts....
19. Hi folks Recommend me a decent lightweight 1u power amp for bass. Power doesn't need to be huge - at the moment 500 watts bridged into 8 ohms would be fine - just reliable and not silly expensive. Thanks Gareth
20. Ziricote... all day and all of the night
21.
That does look like a lovely bass.....or will do with a different pick guard :-). I wonder how this stacks up against the Squier VM PJ.
The model is basically a Fender American Special specific to Thomann.
22. If you keep the standard valve configuration in it (rather than swapping the pre valves out for lower gain ones), you'll get some grit if you dig in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8F99VkSXsI
23. The 30 is essentially the old LB30 in a new housing. It breaks up easily, depending on the valve type and volume you are using.
24. I collected my 1156 from Bass Gear today and gigged it tonight. I have to say, I am amazed at how good it sounds. The 6" driver is a real secret weapon, as it just seems to sit on top of the 15s tone and give loads of clarity without any nasty tweeter sizzle. The 15" driver sounds huge, but in a controlled way. The cab's light too. And it's loud. I can't believe I'd ever need another cab, giving me a 4 ohm load, but a 1126 for smaller gigs is very tempting. Amazing...
