1. There is an old saying thats been passed down through generations of bass players, "LOOK AFTER YOUR BASS"
2.
I use one of these to power my kettle, and it definitely comes to the boil more quickly! Take that ye doubters!
I too am a believer. I powered a table lamp with one and the bulb shone with a brilliance unknown, the rays uncovered hidden areas of the room, I saw like I had never seen before.
3.
I have a very strong suspicion that this is an ampeg svt 4pro copy.
Wow! Nothing gets past you. What gave it away?
4. Playing in Wirral last night there was only about 4 inches of snow but it was a slow trek back to the outskirts of Liverpool were I live and roads getting worse on the way. Back at mine at 1.30am the snow was 12 inches were it was untouched. Like an arse I tried to clear my drive at the rear of the house but gave up, then struggled to get my car moving from were I had left it, drove it round the front and ploughed it into the snow on the pavement and off the raod. It was another nightmare trying to dig it out this afternoon. I was trying to tell the guitard that I am having a hard time as it it is bad round here, he lives local to last nights venue, hinting that tonights gig in Helsby may not be practical. He said he had rang the manager and was told the roads are ok around there so it should be ok. Yes, but how do I get to them. I am whacked now. I would sooner be sitting in with a nice bowl of bread and hot milk and watch last nights Coronation Street on the catch up player.
5. I recall WEM amplifiers having a minimum load of 6Ω and their cabs being 12Ω In fact there are a pair of 12Ω column speakers on eBay
6. I moved the finger rest to use as a thumb rest for the reasons you are saying.
7. How does it work if you went out with one, and come back with another. PX or swap for instance.
8. I hate these threads because they always remind me of my regret in selling these two Les Paul basses. I had packed in playing around 1980 and these had been in the loft for a while. One of my nephews talked me into selling them to his mate. The worse thing was, I was dabbling with CB radio at the time and put the cash into this and within a few weeks my head was cabbaged with the muppets on the air. I still have the EB3 although in pieces at the mo' awaiting another refin.
9. I used to listen in awe of Percy playing with the Liverpool Scene in O'Connors Tavern in the late 60s. The bass he was playing had a neck like a banana but he made it sound incredilbe.
10.
I'm pretty sure these didn't come with xlr as standard.
1981 catalogue http://www.westone.info/cats/81/07.html
11. Can't wait to try this out.
12. I came across this doing a google...This Link
13.
HAHAHA!!! Tell that to Tony Levin mate
Will do, when he comes out of his bedroom.
14.
I've tried various compressors over the years and always found they take away dynamics. Never got on with them and really can't see how they can improve a bass sound in a live situation. Only my opinion mind you.
+1 Only suitable for use in the bedroom, pretending to be playing live. When playing live, why would you want to sound like you are in the bedroom?
15. I find the treble control on my Thumb with the MEC 3 band eq is not as usable as the one on the 2 band eq due to the frequency it is set at. In comparison the 3 band treble control appears not to do anything.
16. It is a typical result of the people who vote in polls, they don't neccesarily know anything about the subject to make any informed judgement, and the result doesn't really mean anything. It is just TV entertainment. I remember the polls in the music papers years ago, Ringo Starr best drummer, Sid Vicious best bassist....... just fans voting for their favourites. Who in all seriousness would bother wasting money on a stamp and envelope.
17.
If the tone of your present amp and the 600 are the same but the 600 is just 350w more power, then I'd go for it. You don't 'have' to use the extra power but you have it on tap and as headroom. Have no fear you are no more likely to blow your BE drivers with the 600 than you are the 250; unless you are a complete loon and continually drive your amp into clipping... which you won't as you'll hear it loud and clear!
Isn't the 600SMX 2x300w per channel and does not bridge?
18. Does it have a pre-amp pwr-amp in/out or effects send and return? Try linking them out with a patch lead. The switch contacts sometimes get dirty in them.
19. Purchased in 1971 ish. Antoria EB-3 copy, £83, from Rushworth and Dreapers on their own finance, £10 deposit and walk out with it the same day. Sound City B120 plus amp head £85, and Sound City 4x12 cab also £85 from Frank Hessy's, bought with a Provident cheque.
20. Stopped playing in 1980 and thinking I would not play again sold my Hi-Watt 200watt head and two 2x15 cabs, but the biggest regret was selling these two Les Pauls.... I wonder where they are now.
21. Could this speaker cable be referred to as being coaxial? http://www.canford.co.uk/Products/33-250_CANFORD-HPS-CABLE
22. Sometime in the '70s, I was playing in a club in Sheffield, Genevives I think it was, and local hero Joe Cocker came in with two hangers on. We sat with him and he enjoyed the beer we bought and smoked our cigarettes, not returning any. I went to see him at Sheffield Arena in the '90s. I don’t think he noticed me sitting there all those rows back, I’m sure he would have invited me back to his for supper.
23. My first was in 1966 at the Liverpool Empire. I saw, The Rolling Stones, Ike and Tina Turner, the Yardbirds and Peter Jay and The Jaywalkers. Ticket price was £1.00
