Sooo, what’s the opinion of folks who have had a bit time with this pedal? @Quatschmacher… Did you get one?
-
It’s a thick, gnarly, and harmonically rich fuzz … Based on the Tall Font Green Russian/ Civil War Muff circuit … So strong with that mix friendly mid character, and retaining the low end that makes this particular Muff so bass-friendly. This one is indeed bass friendly. There’s something more to this pedal though. The secret sauce is in the tone sweep. As DBA put it … “A specially designed multi-curve shaping filter which changes the timbre of the pedal from super deep bass sludge to screaming highs”. This makes for something more versatile than your average 3-knob Muff, sure. It’s killler. Plenty love for it out there anyway. Check the reviews. If you like drones, long, Indefinitely held notes or passages, to sculpt, build and move between layers, morph ambient textures … in their own right, to solo over, or to underpin a multi layer bass part … Then one of these is worth looking at. It does everything the Freeze does, but so much more. Most notable for me was its own effects loop, and the possibilities for signal chain placement and the potentially endlessly added depths to the frozen effect that the loop affords, whilst keeping your realtime bass licks otherwise unaffected, if so desired. The options and degree of functionality are wild. It’s an extremely versatile and powerful creative tool that opens a world of musical possibilities. Check out the YouTube bass demos, and EHX product info … It’s deep. I must say … I love this pedal, and wouldn’t be selling it had I not recently acquired a Superego + Royal Mail ‘Signed For’ postage is included in price (UK only). One of the harder to find pedals from the increasingly collectible 7 Series Tonelok range. It’s an excellent phaser for bass, with a wide array of control options that allow you to the scope to craft a useable mix-friendly phase tone. The effect operates at unity, with no lift nor drop in volume, and no loss of low end whatsoever. Though fundamentally a phaser, the PM7’s modulation capabilities can extend to territories way beyond the norm. The control set achieves the following … Speed: adjusts the speed of the vibrations. They become faster the more this is turned to the right. Depth: adjusts the depth of the vibrations. They become deeper the more this is turned to the right. Manual: Adjusts the level of the phase-shifted tone. The level is increased and the effect strengthened the more this is turned to the right. Feedback: Adjusts the amount of feedback. Turning this to the right applies normal-phase feedback, and turning it to the left applies inverted-phase feedback. In either case, the sound will become more distinctive. Mode 1/2/3: Selects from three types of phases … - 4-stage phaser with invertedphase mix. Vintage sound. - 6-stage phaser with invertedphase mix. Deep phasing sound. - 6-stage phaser with normal-phasemix. Deep phasing sound. Waveform: Selects the modulation waveform (the "shape" of modulation). - Triangle wave: Produces conventional phaser sounds. - Square wave. Produces step-sequencer-like sounds. - High-frequency wave. Produces sounds like a ring modulator or FM synthesizer. The Ibanez 7 Series pedals are the bomb. The Maxon engineers were thinking outside the box, to be sure. Have a listen to the opinion of Josh Scott (JHS) about this. Royal Mail ‘Signed For’ postage is included in price (UK only). Beautifully crafted delay pedal from Walrus Audio, tactile, with a really intuitive control set … feature rich, but simple to use. It’s a piece of kit that invites creativity. Works very well with bass guitar. No mud at all. The quality in this pedal is obvious to the ear … But hey, there are many fine words about the Arp87 around internetland if you do some trawling. Modern classic bass synth/ envelope filter pedal … riding the crest of popularity since the ‘Daft Punk’ reveal. But I assume you all know what the BSW is, and what it does. If not, there’s a ton of material about it in YouTube and the forums. Get your party hat on. Royal Mail ‘Signed For’ postage is included in price (UK only). It was a very different kind of festival and audience for us, and odd to perform in daylight. Only the second time we ever did that, and so the atmosphere and energy was strange (but good). From this perspective the experience was fantastic, and the organisation top notch. Wildly impressed by that festival, to be sure.

What exactly did You did after Your last gig ?

Ha! Yes, I always travel far to work. No cutting shapes with Hollywood darlings in the Hebrides! I’m in Lewis, so I don’t know your friend. I’m sure everyone in Harris does though … if he’s driving the bus. -

In that band … a vocalist, yes, but neither the band leader nor writer. -

Had a shower, smoked some weed, went to the afterparty, drank mead, cut shapes with some Hollywood darlings you know, drank more mead, smoked more weed, watched the sun rise from arid hills into the pink-blue hue of an LA morning (the strangest light). -

Withdrawn Death By Audio Fuzz War Thick, gnarly, harmonically rich fuzz, based on the Tall Font Green Russian/ Civil War Muff circuit … So plenty richness with that mix-friendly mid character that makes this particular branch of the Muff tree so bass happy. This one is indeed bass happy. There’s something more to this pedal though. The secret sauce is in the tone sweep, which alters the mid character as the low/high balance shifts. As DBA put it … “A specially designed multi-curve shaping filter which changes the timbre of the pedal from super deep bass sludge to screaming highs”. This makes for something more versatile than your average 3-knob Muff, and not a muddy one trick pony, to be sure. It’s killler. There’s a ton of love for it out there anyway. Check the reviews. Sold Tech 21 Para Driver DI If you like that SansAmp Bass Driver vibe, but you want enhanced mid control … then this is the kit. Use it as an end-of-chain driver/ EQ/ DI … or up-front/ in line as a versatile feature-rich OD … or EQ-primed clean boost. It has a dry blend, and parallel out too, so the potential uses and options are varied and many. The parametric mid controls are the bomb. The added scope this gives to a SansAmp is wild … literally the way to craft yourself into any mix, or any room, with a ton of tone to play with. I actually have another of these still on my board (yes, I experimented with two). So, I still very much swear by this pedal. Anyway … Product Info: https://www.tech21nyc.com/products/sansamp/paradriver-di/ Royal Mail ‘Signed For’ postage is included in price (UK only). I have a bass that I hate, sure. Why? … Because it’s a Rickenbacker. I’ve always hated Rickenbackers. Which makes it so unlikely and funny that I own one now … A 1976 4001 so, ironically, it’s valuable enough to pay for the bass of my dreams. However … it’s a family heirloom that I would never sell. This was my uncle’s bass that he played prolifically since ‘77, til only last year when he passed away. It was me who inherited the bass from him. First-World problems ‘n’ that, sure … but it looks like I’m stuck with this thing. Albeit in the most drole and light hearted way, it’s a daily challenge to me, such is both my historical prejudice and realtime frustration. That said… having had it a couple of months now, and having played it a lot (despite how confrontational it is to my tastes). I’ll admit to finding a trace of affection for it by now. This is laced with an equal trace of guilt and shame however. It doesn’t quite leave me feeling dirty. Just a bit perplexed. I’ll persevere though. I’ll make it my task to love this bass, one way or another. It’s a funny old life.

Ahhh, balls. Research time

I concur! Thank you so much for your suggestions everyone. I could talk all day about Warwicks or Matsumoku Arias … But I’m but a babe in the woods when it comes to Rickenbackers, so this is all very appreciated 🙏🏻

Is that what I have? They’re the originals. There are only three, and neither the gear ratio nor the reverse gearing are to my liking … hence my inclination to change them l.

I’m after some advice regarding a bass I recently inherited … a vintage 4001 (made in 1976). My post is a bit long-winded, so please bear with me. It’s funny that I ended up with this bass, as I’ve always had a particular dislike for Rickenbackers. They’re literally the furthest thing from my traditional basses of choice (Warwick) … yet here we are, haha. I’ll never part with this as it’s a family heirloom. My uncle bought it new in 1977 when he moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in music, and played it the whole time since. However, the bass is not destined to gather dust either. It will most definitely continue to be used in battle, so there are some (reversible) changes I’d like to undertake in making it mine. I know that for many the only way forward would be to source original vintage replacement parts, though that’s not my aim here. My questions are as follows … The Bridge: Currently there’s a non-original bridge which doesn’t give me the range of intonation for the strings I want to use (the ‘E’ saddle is all the way back already). I’m considering the Ric-specific Hipshot model as it’s well engineered with enhanced adjustment, but also the Allparts replica as it’s in line with the original aesthetic and has the mutes. I was wondering though … * Is the Allparts replica prone to the same tail-lift as the original? * Is there a better option, or any other considerations that I’m not aware of? The Scratchplate: It appears to be non-original as a new set of holes have been drilled in the bass to accommodate it, and it doesn’t line up correctly (look how close it is to the edge beside the jack-socket!). • Where can I find a replacement with the correct dimensions and hole placement for a 4001 of this vintage? The Tuning Keys: Three are original, one is a Hipshot detuner. I’d like to replace them all. * Is there such a thing as a set of drop-in replacements (with correct hole spacing), that are NOT reverse geared, have a better gear ratio than the originals, yet have a similar aesthetic (black ferrules/ short stems) ? * If not, what are my options? Other than that, I removed the pick-up cover as it was in the way, but I’ll put a bezel in there so my thumb doesn’t get eaten by the dusty void. This is a wildly outlandish instrument to me but, despite its many quirks, there’s definitely ‘something’ about it that’s growing on me. It oozes mojo, sure … I’d never have imagined saying so, but I’m beginning to love it already. The photos are of the bass exactly as my uncle left it. He was a true Prog-Rocker, and a great player. It’s my desire that the bass should continue to be used and cherished … albeit with a few tweaks. Also, if anyone has any idea of the value (for insurance purposes), I’d be keen to hear it. Anyway, advice from those learned in things-Rickenbacker would be most gratefully received. Thanks 🙏🏻
