1. Seriously I have tried every suggestion, however I not prepared to modify my pc to the likes of disabling things that the moderators here "thinks" might or might not interfere with running this forum, specially when no such issues arise when visiting any other vBulletin based or PHP based forums (fori?) which I visit such as Talkbass, EBMM and my very own bike forum ( http:/www.xt660.com/index.php ) I regret to say this is a pain to view / open / post and even visit, and with all due respect I love this forum but it is about time both owner and admins / mods, all start realizing that it's not us, nor our computers / broadband connections or other, but there is definately something wrong at your end, be it within your new server or it's ability and that of the actual new forum software to be capable of handling such a large traffic of users either at peak times or not. I do confirm that there are rare times where you can point and click at sub section here and get there straight away but these are rare and far in between, and also never at the same time, so that makes it difficlult to predict if it would be better to visit late at night or early in the morning. It remains unpredictable but for most part of the day this is tediously slow and I repeat will all due respect, unless something its done, this will bore us in the end and drive us away. I do not intend to be rude or out of order but truth needs be told. This has got to be sorted out. Sorry.
2. We don't know for sure if Gareth got those 2 Fenders he said he did, a new P and a new J but we never saw picture proof.

4.
Thanks GW. Did you actually try identical strings at the same time?
Well I made that test with a brand new set of strings, took them on and off until I was satisfied with the final result. I also like that new high mass bridge on those american standard basses that have slotted saddles as I have managed to get the larger spacing possible while retaining the strings within the width of the neck, I reckon I am very close to a 19.3 spacing.
5.
Ah, my mistake, read it wrong. I'm not sure that it's an EBMM problem though. From what Gareth has said and backed up by the serial number, the bass was made before he'd even ordered it, so unless there's some weird CERN type of faster than light communication going on, the bass hasn't been made to his order. Somewhere along the line it looks like a fast one is being pulled...
I have heard that since Pete Lunney retired, those left at S&T can't tell their arse from their elbows
6. Ken Smith?
7. Recently experienced with that one actually, on my new Fender American Standard P bass. Make no mistake, there is definately a difference between the two, when you go strings through it sounds deeper and less snappier, and when top loaded you get a brighter sound. For me the best result was a mix of both, i.e. E and A strings through and D & G top loaded, this meant that the higher strings had a poppier sound when top loaded and the thicker ones were deeper when strung through.
8.
You could also try to PM 'Ming' on the EBMM forum, he's taken over from Pete Lumney. As for Grand W's advice, personally I'd steer clear from sending PM's to Sterling, or starting any threads on the forum. You've been on there long enough to know why.
No mate I didn't tell him to PM Sterling directly nor to make a fuss on the ebmm forum, I told him to pm Aziah and ask her to make him (big pooper) aware of the issue and that she and Sterling have to appreciate his action not to make a "furore" openly in the forum but to have a humble approach which shouldn't go unlistened and needs a prompt solution.
9. Not wanting to point the blooming obvious, Gareth, regardless of the reaction you might get in the EBMM forum, I feel you should really need to let Sterling Ball know that somewhere along the line Strings & Things send you a moody bass. By telling us all here yes will get you a lot of support because a.) you're british, b.) we like you as one of our own and c.) we feel your pain. but all of the above is pointless because you are barking up the wrong tree and all our support won't get your bass sorted. For once go directly to Sterling Ball, he says he doesn't like pm's then send one to Aziah and ask her to present it to his attention appreciating that you are addressing him alone and not wanting to make a big scene in public in his forum which is one of the things he detests, if he has any decency he would get his wheels in motion and by next week Strings and Things will be begging at your door with a new bass. That is if you do it this way and not go to the forum and say "Outrage!! I have been sold a 3 legged donky!"
10.
Lol read the rest wazoo
I know but I thought by now, Strings & Things and Bass Merchant would hold a "file" on Gareth and ensure he gets his basses perfect before he goes all Victor Meldrew on them! This is atrocious to read from here.
11.
Well, its not that great a day to be honest. Im really angry and disappointed with what has happened. I am now contacting the Bass Merchant/Strings & Things for a return (7 days policy) because this is not what I expect. I'll post more once they respond. Its been far too long a wait to accept something that I'm not happy with.
W.T.F.?? what's wrong with it?
12. This does drop d, and 4, 5 or 6 strings bass. http://www.hardwirep...uner-videos.php but... who's ever heard of Hardwire? 13. truly a nice looking bass!
14. Wizard would have not been my choice of replacement pickup, also... I need to ask this: last year I asked Wizard if they did do a replacement pickup for the single coil old style tele bass and they got all arsey on me saying "NO! there's not a big demand for those, so we are not doing them" I thought... well f*** you very much! and thanks for nothing. I'll look elsewhere. So I did. Are you sure it's a wizard? Anyways, I've had 2 of those Squier 51 and I have tried them with a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound which was the most powerful (perhaps a tad too much) and with great presence on all frequencies and then a Lollar which was very nice and vintagey but not so powerful and finally on my last 51 Squier I fitted a split coil (hum cancelling) Lindy Fralin which was the best of both worlds, seriously present, loud enough and really woke up every single ounce of resonant wood in that body. It was xpensive but worth it.
15. I don't have a copy but I understand Bass Player magazine has a whole page on our very own basschatter star Alberto Rigoni http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=2317020839352&set=a.1406188909123.59950.1064406791&type=1&theater for those of you who don't know Alberto Rigoni here is a youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-0P4eKBAHs
16.
Huwatt?? custom made markbass amp? :-) what did you do with the buit-in LMII ? any idea where i can get a good deal for markbass stuffs in London? one on my lists is the ny122. :-)
the heads in the mark bass combos are swappable, take one out stick the other in. I sold my LMII here to a basschatter! For the best deals on Mark Bass here in London speak to this man and ask him, he'll tell ya: Proel International Ltd. Alberto Curasi Tel: +44 020 8761 9911
17. Oh you know, when you hear this you'll be kicking yourself, I have the same LM tube head however mine is the 500W and last year I've spent an evening at the MB wareouse (UK Distributors) trying most every Mark Bass cab in the end the best match was the CMD102P combo having swapped the old combo head with the LM tube and the result was this Should you need more headroom, you can hook up another 2 x 10" traveller cab http://www.markbass.it/product_detail.php?id=37 to that combo and you'll be shifting some serious air. I've found that 4 x 10" gives the tighter and more defined bottom end than having a larger speaker say a 1 x 15" which didn't seem to work well with that head.
18. Got an email newsletter from Guitar Guitar declaring a substantial price drop on all mainline Rickenbacker basses as per this link: http://www.guitargui..._campaign=sep27
19. Even if I had the cash I'd rather give it to charity than spend 100 grand on this http://most-expensive.net/bass-guitar
20. Attention, you can also clamp the pickup in a vice (turn it upside down before you lock it into the vice) and with a mallet and pin gently tap the inner picukp poles from the bottom just a touch for them to raise a mill or two
21. Clarky the original pickup in a CIJ 51 reissue has raised poles on A and D strings while flat on E and G this to follow the fretboard contour, the one I sold you last year had a Lollar pickup which was re-hand wound by Jason to compensate for the fact that his pole piece were flat and not followed the contour. I believe his re-hand wiring did the trick and that bass had a very very balanced sound. Also I changed all the wiring for waxed cloth wires and CTS pots with paper oil capacitor, to make it more period correct. Whoever bought it off you could tell you, he got a nice bass. Why did you try another, just out of curiosity?
22.
If you are experiencing typing latency it is something your end not playing nice. Which version of what browser are you using? What type of security software are you using? (Certain types of security software sniff javascript events and can inject code to try and work out what is going on and keep everything 'safe' and/or intercept requests and parse them. Typically if you havent got that sort of thing getting in the way then IME typing latency is something going a bit haywire in the browser because it just doesnt get on with some of the data structures being passed about and held on to in the page. It used to be the case that older IE versions and FF versions got very tied up by this sort of thing. In recent years (since IE7, FF3) this has been less and less of an issue as javascript performance have become important for bragging rights between browser coders. The one thing I think it isnt is down to the server having had load in your case. Very unusual, do you have a browser capable of laoding plugins at all? If so try disabling them (yup all), if that makes a differenc, then turn thm back on one at a time and see if one of them is the culprit. Only other thing to try is a completely different browser. if that shows the same issues, then its something other than the browser, but its still your end, I'm afraid.
Internet Explorer 9 - no customized setup to block plugins or anything. Avast Antivirus - set to allow most things, skype, Window messenge, the lot except viruses, trojans, worms etc. look just typing that lot, I burned 12 minutes of my life waiting for the cursor to start blinking before I could type the next letter, honest! ... I'll just live with it as it is cause this is too tedious.
23. Ok... to respon to BigRedX no I didn't have any other pages or browsers open.. Can I repeat one more time that if I shut down basschat and I open 6 or more other random pages including other php bulletin forums or fori, they all run fast. It's here that I am having the issue ever since the update took place.
24. Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari no difference, there I have made my tests. here things remain slow. I then tested my Virgin Broadband at www.speedtest.net and I got 48meg download/upload speed.
