1.
Hi folks, Playing a lot of fretless at the moment. When I practice I like to play along with a tune with a groovy line that repeats itself through the tune a fair bit, so I can elaborate and play around with it. Anyone got any ideas? Simple, groovy lines. Cheers ped
DJ Food, Coldcut, they use a lot of fun double-bass grooves. http://www.ninjatune.net/home/
Rock/Grunge, Hip hop, funk, Jazz... all mixed and crossedover
yum, that sounds delicious :-)
Mainly I'm a fingerstyle player that loves to dig in deep, yes I give my baby a hard time.
I like to give the strings a hard time. Makes it a bit harder to play fast or in time but I love that NASTY sound. I'll get the timing and the sound right one day...

 4.
He is indeed! If you like Familyman, you should definitely check out some of the other great reggae bassists like Flabba Holt, Robbie Shakespeare and Boris Gardiner. I'm having a mini reggae renaissance right now and have had 'Heart of the Congos' (which is mostly Boris Gardiner on bass, with some Geoffrey Chung) on repeat play in my car for the last few days... that and Steel Pulse's 'Handsworth Revolution' (Ronald McQueen plays some great bass on that).
Yeah, Handsworth Revolution is a feast of sumptuous bass.
 5.
Nerves are good, shows you're human. I find they help keep me focused on the gig. 2 months practice? I reckon you'll be cooking, enjoy the jitters or nerves, You've obviously put the work in, so why not enjoy the reward
What he said! Have a good time, all of the time :-)
 6.
They can join Behringer on my shortlist of morally bankrupt companies with parasitic business models.
Are Star*ucks on it? They look for succesful independent cafés, find the landlord and offer an increased rent over whatever the café is paying. Saves all the tedious, time-consuming and expensive process of building up a business.

 8.
No, I've not seen it actually. Is adrenochrome the chemical / song in the film?
Uncle Wikipedia: Author Hunter S. Thompson mentions adrenochrome in his book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. In the book it is derived from a living donor's adrenal gland (removing the gland kills the donor; it cannot be taken from a corpse). As such, it is purported to be very exotic, and very intense: "the first wave felt like a combination of mescaline and methedrine". Thompson reported a significant perceived rise in body temperature that led to paralysis. it's a great book, and the film ain't too bad :-)
 9.
Hi everyone. My name is Jon, I'm a bassplayer currently living and working in Harrogate. I play semi-professionally in a covers band playing pubs, clubs, festivals, motorbike rallies and the occasional wedding/party. My 'thing' is getting very good results from budget priced (and 2nd hand) gear. Peace.
A Fear And Loathing in Las Vegas fan by any chance? :-)

 12.
After a particularly large amount of troublesome popping and crunching from our PA on Saturday we finally tracked it to one of the wireless mics. It had a rechargeable 9v battery in it (a new, fully charged one) Our drummer has turned up this article about not using rechargeable batteries in wireless mics .. http://www.wirelessmic.net/wireless_rechargeable.html However it's undated so does this still apply or are new rechargeables better? Any views? Thanks, OG
It applies to NiCd. NiMH (nickel metal hydride) batteries don't suffer the memory effect. They do have less voltage than disposables though.

 17.
What about one of those little behringer tube preamps? http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/page/shop/fl...product_id/1937
That should work nicely, good high input impedance.
 18.
Just heard back from the guy whow as selling one - he couldn't shift it here or eBay, so he's taken it to America with him by the sounds of it. So the search continues. If you could point me to a DR series one, I'd be happy to have a look
I've never used a real Hiwatt, but the emulation of the Hiwatt 100 on the Bass Pod Pro is juicy, and the one I use all the time (with a virtual Ampeg 8x10). Had you thought of using a Pod and a ss poweramp? maybe not the real thing but a lot cheaper and lighter.
 19.
Well, lucky for you you're so streetwise. If we can do something positive with our collective knowledge, then we should at least try.
yeah, but what can we do? We can't even warn the 'winner' as it's a private auction. What's the justification for a private auction anyway?
 20.
I say scam because of these red flags: Horrible resized pictures Zero feedback seller, registered on eBay almost as soon as the auction starts Unrealistic start price No reserve Bog all info in the description If someone could track down the eBay/gumtree/whatever listing this was nicked from then we could get it shut down.
Yeah, right. Several of us complained about a blatant scam a couple of months ago and all Ebay did was send us automated responses saying that they take fraud very seriously. It was up to us to mail the 'winner' and warn him before he parted with £2000 for a £30 guitar. This one is a private auction, so we won't even be able to do that (assuming it is a scam). I've googled the serial number and it doesn't show up anywhere else, not that that doesn't mean he didn't just make a plausible number up.
 21.
ive never really liked Precisions as my only real experiences with them are: a dodgy encore at school, and a mexican standard in PMT before i bought my jazz and it sounded and played horrible. However im slowly getting into them after listening to the wombats - moving to new york, his P sounds awsome with a pick!
Yeah, that's a great sound isn't it!

 23.
How about one of these wrapped up in a metal box. Maybe something like this one in black anodised finish. Add a fused mains inlet and a speakon and you're there. Should be do-able for around £300. 500Watts in a 9x5x2 inch box with an all-up weight of not much more than 2 pounds. Andy
I'm interested in one or more of these. Have you tried them?

 25.
Thanks for all the replies so far! Yeah, according to this TBX review it sounds like arse with the default wiring. Apparently the thing to do is use the same cap value with either a 120k or 220k resistor in parallel instead. This diagram suggests 220k, but most of the reviews I've found mention a 120k. I know very little about electronics, so I'm not sure which will give you the "better" sound. Why would the 0.022uF cap kill the signal? I thought the lower the value a cap, the less highs it would cut.
you're right, but I read the schematic as 22.5uF. 0.022 would make much more sense.
It would be great if you could, as I have no idea how this would work! Does the value of the inductor control the mid rolloff frequency, or would that be determined by the cap value?
A combination of the two. I'll get round to it, nudge me if you don't hear from me!
